2.2 Building the Neutron Highway Grid

Update :

The mapping team are tasking Colonia residents, or explorers from the bubble, to look for neutron stars and/or white dwarfs along the following routes :

  • Colonia to Hyponia
  • Colonia to The Fallows
  • Colonia to The Bubble

eaX6xra.jpg

Those taking part will receive the Galactic Highway Surveyor's Badge - issued by the Colonia Citizens Network. More info of these badges of merit will be published in the coming days.

If you take part, please list the following data in this thread :

  • Procedural name of the neutron star / white dwarf system.
  • Distance the system is from the Colonia Nebula (Eol Prou RS-T d3-94)

You must physically visit the system(s) for them to be counted toward the CCN Surveyor's Badge qualification. If you post a system that has already been submitted on this thread, yours will not count.

The Surveyor's Badge of merit is awarded as follows :

CCN Rank 1 Surveyor = Submit at least 10 neutron stars or white dwarfs along one of the highlighted regions.
CCN Rank 2 Surveyor = Submit at least 20 neutron stars or white dwarfs along two of the the highlighted regions.
CCN Rank 3 Surveyor = Submit at least 30 neutron stars or white dwarfs along all three of the highlighted regions.

Only 1 entry can be within 500 LYs of Jaques station, all others must be further afield.

Slowly adding neutron's to my post #2 :)

Would it be worth adding a date column to the list on your post? Each discovery only counts once so if you add one that someone else has also listed in a subsequent post there's no reference to who listed it first.

Hope this will do...

"Edit: Please note that by adding neutron stars to this post, I claim none of the systems entered if contended, not even systems tagged by me or CMDR Flirble Rasok in the badge contest :)"

Added a combined table of all submitted neutron/white dwarf systems to the OP, along with the following stipulations...

The stipulations for the Highway Grid Project are :

  • Neutron/White Dwarfs must be beyond 500 LYs of Jaques station.
  • Submitted systems must be within one of the green shaded corridors - post which route your system belongs to (Hyponia/The Fallows/Bubble).
  • Post the distance to Jaques.
  • Only systems that haven't already been submitted on the tables below will be added.

My findings.

So I suppose NS/WD in the known Neutron Fields are redundant - especially if they're not on one of the stipulated highways?

I'm currently approaching what Kancro Vantas dubbed Eastern Beta (still 1000 ly south, but already plenty of NS/WD), but after the first half dozen, my enthusiasm for alt-tabbing to EDD to note down another one is rapidly diminuishing. I can't do 5 jumps without stumbling across one, and currently (probably about to change this evening when I get tired) my biggest problem is to keep an eye on the fuel gauge.

Yes, building a 'neutron' highway across the galactic core regions is pointless, there are bllions of neutrons and white dwarfs to use out there so no shortage of systems to use for hyperjumps.

The grid will only be useful where there are relatively few neutron stars and white dwarfs, but enough to link them up - around the intermediate and outer galactic arms.

Only systems within the green shaded areas will be listed on this thread and used toward gaining the CCN Surveyor Badges.

Depending on how the mechanic works, and providing it isn't a waste of time - other areas around the galaxy will be highlighted for future projects.

Hmmmmm.
I am not really sure this is going how it will work out.
It might be that your massively overestimating the actual thing happening here.

It might actually end up being that an Neutron Star will merely allow you to make a 200-500 Light Years Jump a Single Time from that Neutron Star.
And given that a Neutron Star and an White Dwarf are Fairly Different. It might also be that you can only use actual Neutron Stars and not White Dwarfs.

Meaning that they wont work as an actual Grid but merely as Independent Jump Points.

Sandro said both neutron stars and white dwarfs will boost FSD jumps. Of course its all speculative and depends on how the mechanic works (i.e. how far a jump boost takes you), but as Wishblend pointed out, the location of neutrons and white dwarfs along a players intended route will benefit those players (especially those flying low range ships) as they'll effectively be boost points they can head to if not too far out of their way.

It may not turn out to be a grid, you're correct, more a map of 'hot spots' to aim for if they're in your direction of travel.

The whole thing will be a waste of time if FD make the boosts less than 100 LYs as it would probably be quicker just to head in a straight line than detour toward a boost point. Devs did say significant boost in the livstream, so we'll see.

I think if they offer 200+ LY boosts, Beluga Liner pilots and T9 Transports to the colony and back will love them.

Well if White Dwarfs are going to be Counted that is.
I am not sure this is going to happen.

Neutron Stars thanks to their Enormus Hard Radiation are way way different than the White Dwarfs which while being Extremely Hot still use a Fairly Soft Radiation.

If nothing Else I would assume that White Dwarfs will have Significantly less Effect.

Only time will tell (soon). However, Colonia will not be viable without a significant reduction in travel time, it will simply wither and die. just like the gold rush cities that dried up in the wild west. The railroad saved some of them.
