2.2 Building the Neutron Highway Grid

Thanks to all contributors for this great work !

Took me 2 hours 10 minutes from Polo Harbour to Colonia in a 36ly Anaconda (fitted for bounty hunting), saved at least 1 hour of travel time...

Can you check this system - I can't find it on the map... is it a typo?

Is there any viable neutron route between Sacaqawea and Eagle's Landing?

I was considering the Hurt Highway, but it's quite a detour and I worry it would be a net loss.

It hasn't been charted yet. Its on the 'to do' list :)

I'm at Sacaqawea and just panning the map I saw many NS going toward Eagle's Landing, and they go on all the way. So an Highway is absolutly possible.
The only problem is that Sacaqawea is on the - 580 Y axis and Eagle's Landing is on the + 86 Y Axis. This means that from Sacaqawea You'll need to go further down on the -1000 to start see NS (we are the fields outer border), then fly below Eagle's Landings and "raise" 1000LY. So it's a 1500LY detour on a 5000LY distance.

If it still makes sense I can try to chart an highway.

Yeah that's basically what I saw too when I was considering hopping onto the "Hurt highway", which takes advantage of that neutron layer. The detour is significant enough that it's quite likely a neutron route doesn't make any sense.

On the other hand the Hurt Highway is completly not outdated since it trades the lack of stations with a straight line that doesn't need to move up and down.
It's about 2k from Sacaqawea Space Port if I'm not mistaken, and there's a NS 20 LY from the spaceport to make the first hop.

Maybe trailing a Sacaqawea - Hurt connection could make sense.

Hurt highway seems like a fantastic direct Bubble<->Colonia route, it's the Colonia Connection bases that are scattered unfortunately far away from it. :) If I was just trying to get back to the bubble ASAP I would totally go with that, but I want to visit each of the new bases at least once.

Well, I'm doing it reverse, departed from Hillary Depot. We meet in the middle lol. You'll have a blast, I love their architecture and their frontier feel. The fact they have only ship mantainance and UC is almost romantic too! So it's an interesting trip also on the last leg to the bubble.

Personally i don't know what to do: I was heading to Colonia but I've no purpose there. I'm flying a ship that can only explore, especially how there's limited outfitting up there.
Also the sector Sacaqawea Spaceport is in, it's the first to be only mildly scanned. So for a while I'll linger here, then I don't know.

Maybe it's better to go back in the bubble, buy modules for different fittings, go back to Colonia and have them delivered me there.

Man, I'm a wanderer, not really an organized explorer with aims and clear routes... Got to live my myself :)

Tried doing some of the jumps on the hurt highway but I can't get the range to go neutron to neutron in my aspx with a 43 Lightyear jump range in a full tank, once I get to colonia I'm going to great up to make my on highway going neutron to neutron.

Was thinking of trying to make a highway that links mostly ns in my 44 ly ranged ship when I get ready to go to colonia:) If you start before me let me know how it goes might not be needed for me to do anything if you already did one for that range ^^

Ran out of amf units and I got just shy of the halfway going neutron to neutron from colonia, it's fairly massive in the list so far just over 40ish jumps covering 7000 lightyears. Don't have time to put it up tonight I need to head to bed so I get 7 hours sleep for work tomorrow but I'll get it up tomorrow (late Friday night/early Saturday morning). If you want to connect to it from the bubble the jumps I've charted are between 160 and 174 lightyears.

Be sure to pack an SRV before you leave the bubble I forgot to pick one up (or transfer one but that would have taken all night to get there) at joques before I started back and I'm wishing I had now lol.

Awesome work :) Im not going out in a few days I think so will see if you are still at it I can try to connect from the bubble :)

Is the fueling stops between the neutrons in hte route and if so how many neutrons are there before fueling?

I was getting 5 to 6 neutron stars before I needed to find a refueling star but there are a lot of M class stars around the route usually less that 10 lightyears from the route and two that are in the same systems as the neutrons less than 100 light seconds from the neutron (happy accident on those two). Fixing to head into work right now again I will have That much of the route up later tonight. Wasn't going to risk having to deal with FSD malfunctions for 13k lightyears lol.

I just did my own test of how much can the neutron highway speed up the overall LYs per hour. I did it in an Anaconda with a total fuel capacity of 56T and jump range 45 LY (full tank).

It took me some time to hit the neutron field, so I first tested the speed on a region, where are some neutron stars, so roughly every 4th jump was from NS. Test time was 40 minutes
In this case was my total speed 2800 LY/hour

Then I hit the neutron field and started to jump mostly from NS to NS, with refueling and repair every 8 jumps or so. Test time was also 40 minutes.
Speed went up to 4000 LY/hour

The first speed is pretty much the same speed I'd achieve using standart method, the second however is more than 40% faster.
My conclusion from all that is, that NS highway is efficient only if there really is such a highway :) Another words, when you really are traveling through a dense NS field.

This test was concluded on my way from Jacques to SOL, I measured my distance from SOL when I started the test and than again after 40 minutes, the value was than multiplied by 1,5.
I also never scanned the star, only honked and tried to jump away as soon as possible, so no scan of anything, no opening of system map. I had some NS bookmarked, but almost alway had to search for a usable NS in a range of 150 - 180 LY, I used the bookmarks only as a pointer.

I have a tip for you CMDRs travelling the highway. Don't get disconnected!!
I had just scanned a water world in a neutron star system when I was disconnected.
When I logged in again I was inside the cone of death.

I managed go get away but with no canopy what's the point?

Stay safe CMDRs!
