2.2 Massive frame rate drop entering and landing on planet

On my 570 getting sudden drops from 50-60 to 8-10 FPS when looking at planetary installations while landing. Good thing I'm currently using a docking computer or it'd be a struggle. Looking to the side of my cockpit and away from the planet and landing area brings it right back up. Already had the settings down to low back in 2.1 where it was fine, so not much I can do but bear it and hope there's a fix coming down the pipe. A few planets in SC have triggered the bad framerate too, but they've been few and far between.

Thought I'd have more trouble with orbital stations, but so far they've looked more detailed in 2.2 and performed just as well or better.

i agree, i have a maxed out system and the loading is really bad.. just like all of the disconnects ect.. one would hope that fd will get the server issues dealt with once and for all. this is the only game i own that this happens. have maxed out settings on the others and they all work great.. tells u something.

Look at my recent posts + bug report. The horizons (planets) part is unplayable for me right now. In fact I even have serious problems looking at some planets from space. It's like they left out the optimisations they made after the initial release of Horizons. 2.1 was great for me on high/mid, 2.2 I can't even use on low.

Another thing - when this happens my 2 bobbleheads oscillate crazily between two positions even when I'm just hovering and not moving, has anyone noticed this?

Same issue. Massive drop from 60 down as low as 6 as soon as I go near a planet. Unplayable for me.

A sliver of a silver lining in this for me - ED being unplayable for me right now on or near planets has given me the final push towards upgrading my set up. New graphics card duly ordered. I'm now thinking what I am going to do while I wait. Some CZ action I'm thinking.

I do think there are some bugs here though that ED need to address - or some optimisations that they need to reapply. It really does feel like they regressed back to the very first version of Horizons, planetary performance wise.

I can confirm, in stations / orbit / on planets frames dropping more than before 2.2. I never had on the planet surface less than 60 fps, now i get around 50 and lower (after i even lowered some settings).

P.S. I'm not sure what some of you see improved because on the contrary, feels to me that the surface lost it's depth, now its just one color. Can't even see the different rocks because they all have the same color as the dirt.

i've tried everything i can to get the game runs fine, but its impossible, the sttutering moving just the head of the pilot to just look around is enough for me. The other situations like landing, jumping issues is just related to the fact that the game patch is broken somewhere. Unplayable for me too.

The same here. Having rather high specs and not seeing anything below 60 fps before 2.2. Now 55-57 and serious drops when dropping to new system, near stations etc. Other thing I noticed is that quality of AA went seriously down too.

I would probably rather say 950 but thereabouts, yeah. I have a 280X but don't trust it to deliver the same punch, as AMD cards usually get the short end of the yard stick by most game publishers. And we can get some seriously bad drivers at times -_-

From where did you get the impression that an R9 380 is the equivalent of GTX 950? Its a superior card to a GTX 960 in every modern game benchmark by up to 10%

I have a Radeon RX 480. Play was buttery smooth before the update. Now, not so much...not at all. Seems like it's worse now than the day after release. I think it's more bugs than you needing a new card. My stepson was playing this on a Geforce 460 on a duo core system. Lower setting of course, but I was surprised how well it was running. But I don't know how well it's handling it since the update.

2.2 is unplayable for me now. Beta was fine. So no idea what happened when 2.2 went live. Frame rate drops from 60 down to 6. Only near planets.

I'm also having problems while looking at planet surfaces, either from space or while down planet side. Since 2.2 release I'm down to 4 fps unless I restart the game and then it goes back up to about 15 fps. I know I need a new gfx card, using a Quadro 2000.

I won't be doing any material gathering on planets, that's for sure. Just tried and my fps is all over the place. Moments where I'm back up at 50+, but long stretches where it's bouncing around from 5-30 and I can't drive the SRV towards where I want to go at all. Like to do some more engineering work whenever this gets resolved.

Tested on a 1080 & separate rig running a 1070, performance is terrible compared to when I last played ED a couple of months back. I can tell that my 1080 is just powering through it, however the micro stutters are annoying to say the least.

From what I was reading on the Beta forums performance was supposedly increased, that is defintely not what I am seeing here, both my rigs are beasts, the 1070 build is a new rig on a clean install.

I think the new textures/"improved" planetary graphics should be optional, for those who see (i don't, everything is one color now) an improvement. I liked both how it looked/ran the game around/on planets before 2.2.

Well what ever they did to improve the look of planets has made it unplayable for some. I am not even able to bring a planet into view from a distance. Fps drops to 6. Anybody seen an acknowledgement from FD that there is an issue?

Yup, performance has dropped significantly for me but my pc is right on minimum specs. 2.1.x had gotten really, really smooth for me but the enhancement to Planetary fidelity has greatly impaired my frame rate.

It's to be expected. I realise I'll need to upgrade at some point.
