ANNOUNCEMENT 2.2 Your Input Needed - Passenger Tourist Destinations

Location: Hen 2-23
Commander name: Alot

Hen 2-23 is a Wolf-Rayet star at the centre of the pink-purple NGC 2818 nebula, some 1270Ly above the galactic plane. In addition to being a beautiful destination in its own right, it can also serve as an excellent rest stop to prepare for further travel, as the materials required for all three levels of FSD boost are available on planets within two jumps.

The Earth Defense Fleet and the Okinura board of tourism have released the following video outlining why Okinura would make a perfect 'in-bubble' vacation destination. Why fly to Beagle Point when paradise is less than 33 light-years from Sol?

I don't know if this one would work, as it would be time/date specific (and it may not exist), but how about a trip to the Voyager spacecraft when Halley's' Comet is passing by it.

SOL system.

This main star of this system is absolutely incredible, and this planet offers a beautiful view of the brilliant blue-purple star from its rings.

For some odd reason I'm having trouble uploading the image directly to the forums, so here is a link: http://i.imgur.com/JM2lj7m.jpg
In fact, this entire system is incredible. It has several stars, a lot of which have lots of rings as well! There's a photo of the system map below. Unfortunately, I'm 28,000 ly away so I can't take anymore screenshots in the system now.

HIP 43123 (1682.71 ly from sol)

place of interest HIP 43123 1

(not discovered by me) This interesting planet orbits right around a carbon star. Its on the periphery of the suns exclusion zone yet can be landed. Due to the massive size of the star a limit of .33 ls will be encountered for the majority of the travel and this will lead to a build up of heat. Most craft (maybe a diamondback?) will not be able to land but for the tourist who seeks danger and a the unique sight of having a star fill the entire horizon I'm sure it will be considered worth the risk.

Great list! I thought about doing the same but wasn't sure if screenshots were needed or not (I can't get around all these systems). I also get the feeling that Michael wants planetary landing locations with amazing views/things. Anyway, your list is still a great one, lots of Frontier references in there (is there an official ED timeline, or do we all assume the Frontier timeline is the history of ED as well?).

Some suggestions from me without screenshots:
Phekda, visit the Ancients of Mumu! (very different system description from in Frontier)
Quince, historical Imperial colony, out in the sticks (again, very different from Frontier I think - it's been relocated!).

Historical locations where various Commander Jamesons started their legendary careers:
Lave station, Lave
Sirocco Station, Merlin, Ross 154
Olympus Village, Mars, Sol
Old Blackelk, Hope, Gateway

This is still one of my best places in the entire galaxy. High above the galaxy - about as high as I was able to get. This is a fantastic view of creation, literally the entirety of the Milky Way can be seen from up here. I often wonder what impact upon a culture it would have living upon a world situated like this. There are almost no stars above, and below is this massive spiral beauty. A world existing in essentially a star less location like this would perhaps make for a great science-fiction novel.

The location is certainly a long way out - but it is well worth the trip for this stunning view.

I want to have the Hyperion system as a spot not because it's pretty, in actuality its kind of an ugly system, but rather I want to take pilgrims looking to commit suicide to visit the Shrike. Fans of Dan Simmons will understand and for me being a sci-fi enthusiast who happened to have finally read the series after being told to more than 10 years ago it would sit right up there with the feeling I got when I found Vulcan and the station that orbits it.

What I've been calling Mount Nerverest. It is a 50km tall mountain (higher than the orbital cruise dropout point actually).

Original post about it: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/272526

Note: I did experience clipping through the terrain at the higher parts (thus making landing impossible), and this has been confirmed by other cmdrs as well. Not sure if it merits a bug report or not though.

Another vote here for FurtivePygmy's discovery Mount Nerverest (see his post above), offering spectacular views, the ultimate SRV challenge... and near-certain death, due to gravity or the lack thereof. Now my favourite place in the entire galaxy! Surely this has to be chosen...

I'd like to add the star Alnitak 8 in the Alnitak system. Alnitak 8 is a class L star with a double ring system. The outer ring is massive. Between the outer and inner ring system are two planets orbiting each other

For aficionados of Tinfoil - this tour takes you to abandoned mines located on the surface of Col 285 Sector IX-T D3-43A (Affectionately called by locals as "your going where ???").
Tin mining has a long history in this sector and has been booming with the rise of the Canonn and their seeming never ending demand for more and better tinfoil.

Thought Id add some Descriptions:
Seven Wonders of the Galaxy (a work in progress)

Tionisla Orbital Graveyard
Thousands of grave ships orbiting in a truly awesome and solemn procession around the star. Tionisla has the dubious honour of being home to the largest concentration of elite pilots in the galaxy.

Cisco Theme Park (Epsilon Eridani, New California)
The distressingly beautiful planet New California was blessed with the largest theme park in the galaxy. The Cisco Theme Park has entire continents dedicated to providing the best and most entertaining fantasies that money can buy.

Bubble Forges of Phiagre
The forges which created the giant bubble ships of long ago, now silently stand as testaments to the ingenuity and stubborn determination of the early colonists to get as far away from each other as humanly possible.

Wreck of the Antares (The real wreck, not the stuff floating near the star)
Located on one of the uninhabited moons of Luyten 205-128 lies the remains of the Highliner Antares and the memorial that is being built around it.

Hot-Headed Lovers Festival
This festival, which started as a performance art display at the Wicca's World Critics Convention of 3250 has turned into the largest festival in the galaxy which brings in millions of tourists and angry hedonists every year.
