Emergent gameplay like me taking that mission and then flying your A-rated Anaconda into a star for a laugh?

I know, I know, I'd have to pay your insurance as part of the mission. I can think of players who would see that as the best 15m they ever spent.

Of course their would be a risk to having player transport ships but the add gameplay would be worth it IMHO

I'd quite like it done 'real time' with an update flag of its current location so you could fly alongside and escort it. Oh, and a small % chance of damage/destruction en-route.

I don't like instant, if I can move my empty ship inside a nanosecond why do I have to fly my actual ship?

Anyhow, here's the DDF on it, which I quite liked:

How about an added perk of being able to "purchase" (for credits or for real$?) asteroid "hangars" where X number of ships (for instance: 20) and also materials, modules, etc. could be stored without paying "rent". Got more than X number of ships? Buy another asteroid!

Because if they go ahead with module teleportation then there is no point in owning storage facilities, bases or what have you. It saddens me to see so many people cheering on features which close down whole avenues of game development.

*and I WANT MY DAMNED ASTEROID!

Honestly I was really looking forward to 2.2. I am, still, really. It's just a reminder that the developers are reducing the curve, shrinking distances and increasing expedience, believing this will lead to better days.

Maybe? But how much has to be lost, for that gain? It's a game. So there will always be compromises and I have no issue with that. It's just the arbitrary nature. If the developer just bothered to explain why and actually had some kind of reasons it'd make more sense.

But mostly the answers to why at present are ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

God, its going to be fun when these aliens arrive, it will be like being savaged by a dead sheep. For all these clips and creepy mood music these aliens will be thoroughly neutered from the start. This follows a pattern that has started with AI nerfing and the dumbing down of the game. FD are going after the NMS crowd after seen all the moula that was made from that release. Keep the plebs happy and give them all the easy win buttons they need, don't ask them to stress their brain too much as they haven't got the cop on or the will to play the game in an intelligent manner.

Does anyone actually think these aliens when they arrive are going to be allowed to pose any actual threat, can you imagine the outcry from the instant button crowd. FD are setting precedents that cater for the lowest common denominator and will definitely be well on their way down the slippery slope to mediocrity if they implement this brainless mechanic.

The developers don't seem to see the problem with this. They are delivering what they believe people want. Just like they did with engineers. And I am sure there will be more hills that the developer will defend endlessly, and others that will be bulldozed.

There's precious little point arguing ship transport now. We are so close to Beta that any major changes would only occur in a later update. Again, much like engineers.

It's not unreasonable to expect at least a static timer, doing a a simple calculation such as multiplying the distance in Ly with a fixed constant of time/ly. Technically they already have the code to plot routes so should be able to do a proper routing and even detect when a ship cannot fly to the destination at all. But just a simple linearly scaling timer would be a massive improvement.

Pretty simple. The crowd that funded the game is no longer the same demografic they wish to attract. with that level of "conviction" I don't see this game lasting out the decade.

Damn you Yaffle I am really trying to stick to my "new resolution" of being more positive for a while and letting the devs chew over the stuff covered lately before moaning again.... but you bringing up the DDF, just reminds me of the rich game sold by David Braben that i backed...... <bites knuckles and backs away>

My personal opinion is that this is an argument to scrap the whole thing. But I guess that is not going to go down well with a lot of players.

Heh. I'd personally rather have no ship transfer at all, than instantaneous transfer.

The usual solution for this in MMOs is to open up a "new zone" where the new, stronger foes are. So those not yet ready won't randomly stumble across them, and when you go into the new zone, you know what you are in for.

When playing the game, i usually choose a base of operation, from where i go, taking my small fleet of 3 ships there in advance. Instant transfer would make any sort of careful planning obsolete... I no longer need to be an elite (meaning someone with awareness and sense for situations), to master certain scenarios and plans.
Planning, developing strategies and other things like that put the spice into the game for me, like getting back into the bubble with 3 months of exploration data and not getting spotted for example. Any mechanic that takes this spice out, like instant transfer, should be instantly dismissed.
For me, the first real downgrade was, when the hazards of space werent hazardous anymore. I really hope, knowing your things and being vigilant stays core mechanic of the game. Its what makes it Elite... and new features should be decided with staying true to that.

Eh, I'm looking forward to transferring Beluga everywhere. Such a sexy ship. It would have caused a crises of faith. I have a cutter. I was going to be forced to choose. How could I?

Bright side? Why not both‽

Thanks frontier!

Given it is unlikely to be changed before Beta. I suppose it is beholden to all Beta participants to use the time wisely, push the boundaries as hard as possible and give some hard data for the Devs to digest (or ignore).

can t disagree with that ... reddits is full of person speaking about "needless travel grind".
they even wanted to delet supercruise ... THATS what show you how the demografic changed...
when the "new" players want to remove what the community 1st implemented ...

May have been suggested but:

Maybe it should be seen that ship transfer isnt actually a ship transfer as per say, but a "(Re-)Construct" of your ship build.

This would then technically just require your current station needing the (e.g. blueprint)/plans of your Hard points, core modules, optional modules, utility modules + x amount of time (which could be a time delay for the information being got from existing station to current station.

The time that would become odd in the terms of realistic is when you are at a station that does not have the module level you had in your ship, or the engineer modified modules. However, this is where a sort of cap can be introduced. If the modules is standard but not at the station you are in you have to wait more time and pay more cost for the item itself to be shipped, or got from another nearby station.

I can see this also possibly branching out in to being made to generate in to player missions. So a mission could be to transfer ship plans/modules from one station to another direct from a call of a player requesting a ship transfer. The player then transporting the goods could get a nice payment, or if something goes wrong have a big fine to pay. (obviously the goods/plans would still have to be delivered to the station, but maybe on mission fail it then changes in to a mission for salvage) all whilst the player transferring is awaiting the timer.

The only hard data they need is the words coming out of David Braben's mouth. I am fairly certain he did not have magic ship teleportation in mind when creating Elite.

And that is why I don't understand the resistance towards a function like autopilot, I simply don't understand why Instant Ship transfer can be a good thing and autopilot can't? If FDEV said, ship transfer will take as long as it would take for you to travel the distance by yourself, then I would reluctantly agree that an autopilot function would be out of the game spirit, however even if you place a small time penalty on the ship transfer, the autopilot function should then also be valid. Simply because bending the rules in one end will affect the other end as well.

Tell that to James T. Kirk... What, no its not the Enterprise anymore, but its quite similar...

I am commander of my ship. When i request my ship to be transfered, i expect my ship to arrive and not a reassembled abomination... Left my stuff in the cabin, but its empty now... And where is the Princess Leia poster? No way, i would take command of such a thing...

Yeah.. been suggested already as 3d printing.. ridiculous.. imagine a 3d printout with all the scratches, paintjobs, dust on the window.. meh.. I want to feel attached to my ship and care about it. If I can get an exact replica each time I dont care anymore.
