Patch Notes Update 2.3 Beta, Update 2.1

Does the multicrew add cupholders? I'm tired of playing 'hunt the sealed mug' everytime I get thirsty. Ever had the terrifying notion that suddenly hot coffee from a unsecured thermos could scald you when you least expect it? I do, every time I fly my Asp. #SpaceClutter

I'm liking it. I'm loving it in fact. Then again I've got 2300 hours in the seat and it's not gotten old for me, so maybe I'm doing something wrong.

I've three suggestions:

1: Let gunners lock on to individual targets. Don't auto-track them, don't change anything else, but don't let target switching happen so easily.
2: Let multi-crew members build rep and build towards pilot federation ranks, but at a reduced rate. Like bounties used to be. Split progression among wing members. This includes exploration.
3: Turn the discovery scanner over to the multicrew member. As long as I'm being pie in the sky (on Pi Day even) give some ships a dedicated science console so exploration multicrew ships have a thing to do. Enhanced planetary readings, longer-range detail scans. Something. During testing, me and my co-pilot were having fun going out exploring and checking system composition as we went. She gave a go/no-go on whether to stick around. I handled navigation and course routing, she did local analysis. So give discovery progression to her and there may well be another great rush of exploration as like-minded pilots geek out and go squee over various findings.

I strongly agree with all of these points, especially gunners not being able to switch targets so easily. It's very easy to accidentally tag a friendly in a CZ or in a particularly crowded RES site.

Speaking of, I feel they should add the activities, "Conflict Zone" and "Trading" to the Looking For Crew system, as well as give some incentive for players to tag along for trading runs as a deployable fighter escort or gunner in case of an interdiction.

Too little too late. Everyone and their dog is exploration elite by now just by being in the mere vicinity of a passenger cabin. From nothing to Elite in a matter of a few playing sessions.
This, I'm afraid.

I've made it half way through Pioneer in one weekend. This breaks down as follows:

93% Ranger to 8% Pioneer.
2x local explorer mission of 2kLy, plus a visit to NGC 7822 for 30 black holes. The black hole data gave 2%.

to 28% Pioneer
3x runs of 5 missions in a Beluga around the bubble. All taken from an allied faction in boom.

to 50% Pioneer
1x run of local explorer missions to destinations around 1kLy from the bubble (5 missions, 2 destinations, about 120 jumps). About 5 first discovered systems as well (2% rank from exploration data)

Even with the current rebalance I estimate I would still be around 15% Pioneer. So I'd suggest that tourist and explorer missions are still weighted too heavily as contributing to exploration rank, even after the adjustments.

Perhaps it is just me, but in this case I would have preferred this to be a separate patch without the announcement and long drawn out presence in beta.

But then you know that you got there too easily. So why not wipe and start again?

Myself, I got Exploration Elite not by sightseeing passenger missions but with long trips back and forth to the core - DSSing all the way. Which I presume to be the "proper" way to do it. It took me about 4 months to achieve, concentrating on nothing else but.

Since E: D isn't competitive except to oneself, this is a choice that only you can make.

The purpose of the post was to give some hard data around progression on exploration elite. With the hope that the powers that be can see how it affects the desired gameplay and objectives.

Like you I feel it does change the value of exploration. Most of my ranking was from a trip to Sagittarius A* in DBX and before Horizons. No account wipe for me, too much invested elsewhere.

The Asp Explorer has a seat for a co-pilot, but I still can't put an AI or a human in it. Is that going to be available?

Im at beagle point right now, making my way back...66 percent into pioneer...so I need to rush back to sell my data and finish off elite before only 50 percent of said scan data applies to my rank?.....seems fair for people who have been out in the black for awhile gaining towards elite not running passenger missions =D. I dont feel I should stop exploring to take advantage of the value change OR feel penalized for turning in my current data just after 2.3 drops and need more data to reach elite.

As I understand it the change only applies to new exploration data after 2.3 drops. Data collected during 2.2 still counts at the old rate.

I could be wrong though :)

Except those of us who achieved exploration Elite before RNGineers dropped.

Wait so which one is it? If I'm out exploring now, should I wait till after 2.3 drops to hand in my data, or do it now (or it doesn't matter either way)?

As I understand it - it doesn't matter. Anything you've already scanned will be rewarded at the 2.2 rate, anything you scan in 2.3 will be rewarded at the 2.3 rate.
