Once I am back from the deep black and back in the bubble, I'm gonna buy a bounty hunting ship (With seats :) ) and offer spaces on said ship for real life cash whilst I am bounty hunting (just sit there and rake in the credits .. i make a lot bounty hunting!) ... is that ok?
If I'm sitting in on your gameplay, reaping the benefit while you destroy all those wanted bad guys, will I also get the kudos? Can I get to Elite without firing a shot?
 
TBH, this multicrew business sounds like a right mess. :)

Does that mean crewmembers arguing over pip usage will be an issue/cause of grieifng? Nice to see one opportunity of griefing removed with the owner only allowed to be helmsman, but what about leaving a fight to join a friend? Will that use the 15s countdown timer, or will their ship be destroyed? :)
 
This might actually be playable since the rewards are scaled up. I reckon the option to use 2x human fighters and mothership will be the most popular
 
Maybe for the people that don't fly in wings, but just want to join up for a short session?

It's not like you remain with the ship...at the end of the session you instantly end up back in your own ship anyway.

Instant joining is about fun gameplay - and that's what we all want isn't it?

The problem is that there are no in game systems to make and meet friends. You have to be part of a player group or youtube-lord :p to make use of this.
I have a job, wife, kid, joining up with other players is a very rare event in my gaming live. Of course, if there would be some matchmaking system, this would be different, a lobby where i could just join some crew, but this doesn't exist (or am i misreading the OP?).

The gunner role allows a crewmember to take control of all turreted weapons on the ship. They do not need to jump between turret views though. Using a third person interface, they control a reticule that all turrets within their arc will automatically follow; giving them improved spatial awareness and easy control of all turreted weapons. They also have access to two “quick slot” fire buttons, in addition to normal fire groups, that they can customize with modules, allowing them more options for activating weapons and scanners.

Do turrets inherit the properties of fixed weapons when manned, IE to they get a DPS boost or are our brethren forced to shoot something with a similar damage output to a cat toy, at our foes?

As an explorer and trader, Multicrew will be about as useful to me as a feature as CQC is. Waste of time and development effort from my perspective, but whatever. Seems to be a theme. :(

Looking forward to the Commander Creator and new cameras though.
 
If you have four ships in a wing, with each ship able to carry three multicrew, including the pilots (to make 16 players), how will this affect instancing? :)

Avatar creator actually sounds fun. Chortlon is bored being the unofficial face of Durante Enterprises. :D

I like the idea of having things like this and more should be in multi crew... To me the entire point of multicrew SHOULD be more effectiveness through cooperation. Not more power creep just because someone is there. If they can't work together effectively they should suffer.

Not to mention the excellent gaming to be derived from internal ship power struggles.

I would love to be able to slip onto someones ship or them on to mine and have to defend my ship from a hostile take over. Add elements of time for control or make the loss of your ship represent a full re-buy for the one ejected. For the one that commandeers the ship, they have a stolen ship and repercussions of such and can fence it on the black market for re-buy cost.....So many great opportunities for emergent game play!

Sadly we are getting more power creep at the cost of greater opportunity for game play experience.

Well pre-bet I hve definately moved from looking forward to this to looking at other games.

BGS - with tripple bounties for each kill- mulling that through my brain, I wonder if their is a way to exploit this?

It really depends on, if you can use the SRV in multicrew or not. If you can. Then I reckon that it will be much easier to find POI's due to having one person sit in the mothership and find the blue outlines, then have another use the fighter to survey while the third player is roaming around on the SRV. It would still be a hassle, but it feel more involved at least. Although why we couldn't get more sensors is still somewhat baffeling to me.
 
One thing that needs to receive some awareness is going beyond the statement

All bounties and vouchers that the helmsman (ship owner) receives are duplicated for each crewmember, making multicrew a great way to have fun with friends without missing out on money-making opportunities.

If a crew is in space. What about the income the ship generates beside bounties?
Trading goods, running Missions, handing in Exploration data. With multicrew there should be something intended for this, but was kept as a secret in this thread.
If not thought about yet, I recommend to start thinking because time is fugitive. and 26th is NEAR and implementation might be tricky.

The rant wil come anyway.

A couple more questions for the Devs/designers

1. If someone with wanted status joins your crew, does your ship become wanted?

2. Has any thought been given to players exploiting the system by creating sock puppet accounts that can join the ship to get the extra 2 pips?
 
Also the whole magical space unicorn transportation stuff really doesn't seem to fit into the existing rules of the game.... unless Frontier have plans to re-invent the entire premise of players in the Elite universe and make us some god-grade immortal EVE-clones that can just jump between bodies at will.

Otherwise, having people whisking themselves to the other side of the galaxy in the blink of an eye just to see the latest discovery of someone who actually took the time to travel, or to get involved in conflicts hundreds of thousands of light years away without any risk or investment is just going to be nothing but a negative influence on the game and bring the game closer to a market that frankly will get bored and stop playing a couple of week after each major update or popular reveal anyway no matter what you do.

Erm, this is exactly how it works when you "die", you re-spawn with a ship in a station that can be hundreds of light years away...!!
 
And can we please get some attractive avatar options for our commanders?

The existing pilots for hire and the engineers are all as ugly as sin!

Why for multi-crew and not Wings then?

As regards exploit? I could surely just get two mates on board who then go off and do something else, while I RES farm? And they earn millions for doing nothing?

Aye it was stated previously that MP = Wing, so any crew takes up slots... Not sure if that means that 2 + 2 is possible, or if a MP ship is its own container and cannot be mixed.
 
What we know so far?

Anything marked as (Speculation) is only me filling in the blanks, we’ll probably get more info in the next week or so? But from our discussions on Lave Radio last night ;-

(Speculation) I’ll put forward that the first two points will be for all versions of Elite but the rest will be Horizons only.

1. The commander creator – The ability to create avatars which would appear in your and other people’s ships.

2. New camera angles which would allow you to see yourself and other members of your crew.

3. Crew is for fighters or player characters only. NPC crew is NOT on the cards. FD Devs have stated this many times.

4. Some kind of Multi-Crew lobby; Either Direct Invitation with friends or a ‘Looking for Ship’ or Pickup ship function. (Speculation) This could be restricted to Stations only, thus stopping people just jumping onto ships who are very far, far in the deep galaxy. Or it will all be handled in the ‘Comms’ Panel on your legs.

5. The commanders joining the crew will join the crew instantly and will stay with that crew until they either ejected or elect to leave. When that happens; they’re back where before they joined the crew. This is all done for gameplay reasons (like the escape pod) and is done by utilizing the latest ‘Gameplaium Telepresese’ technology. (Speculation) Any time delay would kill this feature, just like ship transfer has caused me problems in the past. So in other words just chill and go with it, Like Powerplay, you don’t like it, don’t use it.

6. The host will always be pilot, who flies the ship, shoots gimbled and fixed weapons, manages power, jumps the ship etc.

7. Depending on the ship, you can have up to three player extra crew. They’ve mentioned that the cobra, vulture and Asp have at least two crew (you can see that in the ship with the extra seats). What ships do you reckon will be multi crew?

8. Player crew has one of three roles to choose from;-
a) Passenger – Player will just look around and enjoy the view.
b) Gunner – Player will take control of any turrets and using a ‘third person’ view direct the turrets fire with an ‘Arc’ (Speculation) This part has yet to be fleshed out, can you have more than one gunner and if so, do you assign a gunner to an arc and the have to cover that arc i.e. Port-Starboard, or Fore-Aft. Or will it be one gunner handling all the ship’s turrets?
c) Fighter Pilot – Player can take the role of fighter pilot, it also means that if the fighter bay is big enough (i.e. 2 bays or above), then two fighters can be deployed at once. I.e. a NPC pilot can be assigned to fly the mother ship and the pilot and the other player crew member. Or you can have the NPC and the other player fly fighters.

9. The gunner will have access to more than just the Turreted weapons, Missiles and mines can be controlled, in addition to other scanner functions we’ve not seen yet.

10. If the ship gets destroyed, All players have to contribute to the rebuy.

11. If the ship does something which causes the players to become ‘Illegal’, Commanders can leave the crew but in order to stay ‘Clean’, they have to forfeit any credits they’ve earned as part of that crew.

12. All bounty vouchers are duplicated for each crew member. (Speculation) Do you have to be an active crew member IE not a Passenger?

13. Extra power pips – For every player, there is an extra power pip available, bring in a maximum of 8 pips instead of six, The Pilot will control 6 of those pips and the other commanders will have a pip each. So you could have a ship with 4 pips in shields, 2 in weapons and 2 in Engines (Making the big ships something really scary) (Speculation) Do you have to be an active crew member IE not a Passenger?

14. (Speculation) Will MultiCrew ships appear a differ colour on the scanner?

15. (Speculation) there was talk last year of 4 players in a ship and their appropriate roles (ie, Pilot, gunner, Engineer, Navigator) and 1 fully crewed ship should be the equivalent of a wing of the same ship class. This appears to have been shelved and the balancing will be hammered out in the beta. Mind you what ‘fun’ roles could a Navigator or Engineer could have? Engineer could redirect shields I suppose but, I never expected us to have the full ‘Artmius’, ‘Pulsar’ OR Bridge Commander experience.

16. (Speculation) A multiplayer ship IS a wing. You can't have a Wing of Multiplayer ships.
