2.4 Ships no longer drop out in between binary stars

What a shame - I don't remember anyone asking for this? Was one of the more interesting things to happen out in the black.

Just looked at the last two pages of responses - there are certainly people who want this, and it makes some sense for 'real' explorer who run the (small) risk of having a long trip wrecked due to circumstances they cannot control (though I don't think it's them complaining). I'm against it as it will slow down long distance travel, but it's not that much slower and people will get used to it.

Long distance speed records set before 2.4 might stand for a while unless the 20k ly plotting tips things in the opposite direction - time will tell.

I already said I know this.

Do you use a hotas? I do. And I also use keybinds to set throttle to 75%, which the game does allow, regardless where my throttle is physically. As soon as I move the throttle, the throttle potentiometer takes over as the source of throttle input again.

Then why are you asking for something that makes absolutely no sense? I have no need for keybinds, I am quite happy with the throttle. If you use keybinds, just add one that gives you 0% and your problem is fixed without screwing it up for everyone else.

I really hope this dosnt go live with 2.4, its part of the fun for me jumping into an unknown system and going OMG im going to die..

Now if this is the way it goes its no fun at all, all jumps will become the same boring as..

.....

And they took away the black hole deaths....and the.... it's just J..J...J...J...J... all the way way jay jay ;)

This is good improvement. I'm in favor of having an option to drop out of hyperspace: above, below or far away from a star. Because exiting right infront of a bright star can hurt your eyes and it's very annoying. This is because the contrast between the darkness of space and a bright star is too much. Repeatedly doing the same can cause serious issues with eyesight.

They should make space exploration dangerous in other ways such as the black holes should do damage when getting too close.

I've commented on this in the 2.4 beta subforum.

Very good, that's a different matter then. You're suggesting to give people different options how to enter a system.
That makes it gameplay, offering the opportunity of pre-planning, involve the player actively....instead of being a passenger on his own ship during jumping, and then have a binary slapped into his face.
I'm all for that.

I assume the "butt clench" comes from the thought of having to go back to the start and press J a thousnad times again.

Also, if "Winter is coming" why is the game getting safer?

Can't wait til 2.4 drops and we'll have to fight the alien themed pirat.. uhm, thargoids, shooting down players like crazy in their little confined hazardous extraction site and then the dads raging because aliens are too hard to kill. I mean, they grinded weeks and weeks for their new shiny cannon, they are entitled to kill everything in one single shot, right?

For a game that lots of people say has such a steep learning curve, sure as day it has little to no challenge at all. ;)

Lol, what? First off, calm down. Secondly, tell me how this ruins it for you more than dropping in miles from the star? Thirdly, it makes perfect sense.

I'm working on the assumption that they are going to change it, so I'm asking for a less dramatic change that caters to those who don't want the adrenaline rush when dropping out between two stars. I am happy with the game as it is (at least this aspect of it), but I know a lot of people (see this thread for those who are in favor of the change) who would like to be able to lose concentration for a minute while exploring and not have that result in loss of millions of credits worth of data, countless hours traveling, and a rebuy on top. Just trying to find the middle ground that makes everyone happy, bro. :)

I think this has to do with your screen settings buddy.

Gotta agree, I've hit quite a few stars like this and never come close to losing my ship but it does add some spice, especially after the umpteenth jump of the evening. Nothing wrong with getting the heart pounding (that's actually good for you!).
Have to agree here.
It's shocking and exciting, but really not dangerous. I think I lost a couple % off a few modules at most when this happens.
So I don't see why they'd remove it in the name of "safety".

Though I haven't hit enough of these to be an expert on the subject. Is it really possible to fry your ship to destruction with these events?

Change what? How the throttle works? Why would they do that? It's been working correctly since the game was released.

What makes you think I'm not calm?

Right now, the throttle works as expected. If speed is set to zero automatically coming out of hyperspace, then the throttle will no longer work as expected, as the ship will be set to full speed and yet will be going at minimum speed. There isn't a middle ground - you want to break the throttle.

You can already have what you want, if you really want it. Use macros or a keybind to zero your speed. There's no need to break a working mechanic when there are enough other broken things that can be fixed.

Exploring is also not an issue. Even if you go full speed into that star, you'll just come out of supercruise and suffer a little heat damage. You certainly won't lose millions of credits worth of data (unless you're daft enough to repeatedly crash into stars and not have an AFMU, in which case I have no sympathy). I explored when there were actually things to be worried about (no AFMU).

Serves us right for demanding more "Explorer Love"
As a loving parent, FD have taken this to mean protecting us from all possible ills.

Bases all over to fix your ship
Repair Limpets
20 Kylie plots
NS Jet protection

They will be changing our nappies for us next, when we all know a proper explorer goes butt-nekid and gets the cockpit hosed down when they return

Kind of like us, putting up bases all over the Pacific during WW 2? Chet Nimitz wants a word with you. :)

Keeping Midway alone saved 2,000 NM (round-trip) of fuel for the ships subs, and planes going out. Keflavik on Iceland kept the Atlantic open, along with the Azores. Bermuda helped.

All you guys who want more risk should go play out over a *really big* pond, in a single engine aircraft. That tends to change your tune, real fast.

I don't understand this - if you drop out near a binary etc the game clearly shows the high temperature, if you get too close (and drop out of SC) there's a huge popup talking about damage, and then you get at least a minute to work out what to do as the temperature goes up. Unless you go afk I don't see how you're going to die without it being your fault. I think they're also bringing back to audio "over temperature" message in 2.4 as well, in case the CMDR is really not paying attention.

Well over half a million light years traveled here in journeys up to 40K LY outside the bubble. Never took worse than 3% module damage from being dropped into a close binary or trinary. Mind you I do carry heat sinks on my exploration ships and don't watch netflix on another screen or wander off to make a coffee whilst jumping. Obviously I must be doing it wrong...

Though I haven't hit enough of these to be an expert on the subject. Is it really possible to fry your ship to destruction with these events?

Not unless you're in a medically induced coma, no. I think Ziggy has actually had the most dangerous one I've ever heard of which involved a close trinary white dwarf system or something similar and that one didn't kill him. Another victory for the netflix brigade, let's all go and faceplant black holes to celebrate!

Been there, done that...only lost about 5% hull...extremely dissappointing.

Im actually hard pressed to think of anytime Ive actually scared meself, and Ive rammed stars, landed inside binaries and trinaries and yet somehow Ive survived every single time. I think the most Ive lost to heat damage was about 30% and thats not bad considering I dont use heatsinks on the asp build. Never have and never will.

The only way I can think of where death is inevitable is either getting caught out in a neutron cone, meeting SDC at Sag A or committing suicide. Even landing on a 6g planet with D rated non engineered thrusters only took about 70% hull, so even that isnt inevitable provided ye can actually fly yer ship.

Shouldnt give them ideas...FD will make every planet into a sponge that ye just bounce off harmlessly at this rate...similar to what a black hole is in this game ^

What makes you think I'm not calm?

You sounded a bit angry, or at least insinuated that my post was totally out there, when it just isn't. I apologise if this is you being calm, I'm used to having to say much more stupid things many more times before people start addressing me like I'm a fool. ;)

Seriously, that's your reasoning? Your immersion? :) But since you raised the point, ok, how would you make it so old timers who are just in it for the exploration can doze off with a Werther's original stuck to their gums and not lose weeks of progress? Cos basically, that's what this is. Finally, and MOST importantly, 'I' don't want to do anything. 'Frontier' want to change the game, and I am saying if you really want to cater to aforementioned old timers, there's a LESS immersion breaking way than dropping us further from the nav point and scooping zone, which I think nobody wants, including you, right?

If you want MY opinion, what 'I' want, it's this... I would have every jump give you the choice between dropping out next to a star in supercruise for scooping, or in normal space AT the navpoint.

I can quite honestly say that I have never used "My Immersion" as an argument anywhere.

I've already addressed the weeks of progress issue. You can go full speed into a star and all that will happen is that you get ripped out of supercruise and suffer superficial damage. This isn't an issue at all. I've fallen asleep while exploring on many occasions...

My argument is as I've already given. The throttle is working exactly as a throttle would. If the input is at maximum, then the ship should be accelerating. What you are suggesting is that the throttle be ignored just because you've made a hyperspace jump, which doesn't make any sense. If I leave my throttle at maximum, it is with intent. I expect the ship to follow that intent, not assume that just because I've jumped I must have forgotten to set the throttle back...

As an aside, I believe that in the early days I also made this request. I was using an Xbox controller at the time, and it didn't make sense to me then. However, once someone explained what was actually happening, I realised that what we currently have is correct. Why would you want to make it incorrect?

Good lord, he just said the same thing for the third time. Where's the door?

Find a neutron star or white dwarf and get unlucky and drop into SC in the cone with full throttle......You can see where this goes.

IMHO, dropping between stars in binary or ternary or quaternary (done that) systems is a glitch, or at least a shortcoming of current technology. As an explorer shopping for FSD drives, I would put this at the top of my list to disqualify a vendor's product. Exploration is dangerous enough.

Fly safe, Commanders. Ad Astra!
