2019: No Mediums Please

Isn't that what the Type 10 - Defender is meant to be?

It is actually, but since the release on it was "Thargoid Focused", had a small (class 6) Power Distributor and the fact that neither Frontier or the Elite's Description says it's a part of the "Big 3", people have just seen it as a failure on all fronts and never looked back.

Frontier then gave the ship an upgrade and put it on par with the "Big 3" but it's far too late for anyone to notice or to care.

Fun Fact: During the Black Friday period, the Type-10 was the ONLY ship to have it's Black Friday paint job 100 Frontier Points instead of 200 like the rest of the ships (including the fighters). I'm guessing it's due to it's popularity in general. How do I know? I bought it because I'm one of the few that loves the Type-10.

The change has been noticed and was very welcome, it just wasn't enough to put it on par with the Big 3. The problem is that it still has considerably weaker shields, like less than 1/2 of what the Big 3 have, when it realistically should have stronger shields, since it would still be the slowest of the Big 4 and have the worst hard point placement.

The Cutter and Corvette are the most expensive ships in ED, the Type 10 is cheaper even than the Anaconda.
An Alliance Large ship should be more expensive then the Cutter or Vette imho because there's no rank you have to reach before being able to buy it.

Type 10 isn't exactly a new ship anyway.

Just a type 9 on steroids. A lot more guns and utility slots and "designed" to fight thargoids.

An alliance ship would be something completely new and original, the chieftain for example when it first appeared in Dangerous. New, original.

We do need an alliance line of ships similar to the Feds and Imps. (And I Don't mean the crusader and challenger)

Honestly, until Frontier comes out with content only accessible by small ships, medium ships are absolutely the way to go.

Yes I noticed that. My own armed trader T10 looks magnificent in its new Black Friday livery.

Meaningful content for small ships only would be the best. We'd get a lot of "new" ships. Something that only small ships can do. For example it would have been great is asteroid bases (not deep space ones) were equipped with only small pads.

This is an awesome suggestion. The Rock Hermit of yore, living in a miniature asteroid base with only 2-4 small pads, ready to blast any large ships ("You're from the guvmint! Stay back or I shoot") with his rock's mounted railguns.

To which I would like to add: Surface Assault and Installation Heist missions only completable by small ships ("The base defenses were designed to be effective against medium and larger military ships, but a small fighter could slip through") and, if we're really out writing the xmas list, changes to the supercruise visibility model to make it depend on mass, energy usage and velocity, so that small ships can be faster and stealthier blockade runners (or swarms of pirates) than large, powerful ones can.

Just looked it up. Well, it looks like Elite's going to be on the back burner for a bit once I can get my hands on these games. Thank you Sleeping Anime Cat Person, you're awesome! :D

If you read this, Galak-Z is a great little 2D shooter based around your favourite 80s transforming robot/fighter tropes. And its AI programming could teach Elite a thing or two, about telegraphing enemy behaviours, cooperation and toggling between hunting targets and idling.

I don't want to believe these facts but your right... *sigh*

I really don't understand this sort of thinking. Can someone explain it to me? How is it "more fun" to do something only if someone else is blocked from doing it?

How would that lock out anyone from anything ? Noone is restricted from buying small ships. Well, aside from the Cobra IV.

The Cobra IV is a special case, not really being a small ship except in size. It's like the DBX in that it's a medium ship that fits a small pad. More slots than a DBX even... It's somewhat of a mini python in that it can do almost anything, though it's not very good at much at all. That's beside the point though I guess. It's a variant ship that's different enough to be fun for some, but doesn't give any advantages over the ships anyone can get.

Credit to Nicholas Back, Nadreck and theSisko because I'm combining their ideas...

A small ship with a large hardpoint, capable of SC but not highwake and can be carried by big ships. Drop off a couple of these in a system and they can patrol SC space till it's time to pick them up.

I can't remember the last time we had a small ship added to the game.....actually, wasn't it the Viper MkIV?

2018 has been a medium-sized year for ship releases:

Krait MKII
Krait Phantom
Mamba
Chieftain
Crusader
Challenger

With all these mediums flying out the door, its ironic that were still waiting for a medium-sized Imperial ship. [weird]

In fact, the last non-medium ship released was the T10 for 2.4, back when Winter was Coming.

Enough mediums please, FD. Time for more small and large ship hardware (or even super large while you're at it).

The mamba was a small ship. I dont know why the new one isnt but it should have been. Honestly the krait probably was aswell.

Anyway. Geko, worm, ophidian... there are quite a few possible smalls. Cant think of any more off the top of my head
