Horizons 29,000LY to go and only 5% hull left!

If you did the Vodka and piggy meat before you logged on; how would that work out?

With enough of it I'd probably fly about 1,000Ly just circling the same star singing 'Show Me The Way To Go Home', before bedding down for the night on the nearest ring system. :D

Good Ship 'GetTheHellOuttaMyWay' Hull Status: 5% still.

Eighth day of my emergency trip home. Todays entertainment - Marvels Jessica Jones.

Well, ED started working again just in time to do a single 1,000Ly stint. Utterly mundane, KGB FOAMs and a couple of Red Dwarfs. I'm now within spitting distance of having covered half of the original 29,000Ly, which should happen tomorrow assuming all goes well. There really isn't much else to say for today. Considering I didn't expect to get any time in, this stint is basically just a bonus.

OK, Vodka and Pork Scratchings before bed. ;)

End of Day 8.

Loving your daily updates Slugsie. Been playing Elite on and off for about a year. Just got back into it big time since Horizons came on line and new to the forum. Came across your journey! Keep on truckin'

Hay Slugsie,

Just checking in to see if all is well.

Still rooting for yea!

Slugsie did say that Friday would probably be the final leg of the trip. Although the silence, does sound ominous; but as you said, we are all still, stilling here, with everything crossed and only hopping for the best.

Hey Slugsie. Serious offer. As a fellow explorer, I 'am Allied to the Quince system. After a lot of digging on the map I found this is probably closest to Sag A for an ideal start/finish point for big journeys. It has two decent stations with full repairs and re stock. It would be no problem to me too fly out to meet you with one of my more spiky, bitey ships and escort you in. Obviously you would have to run in open or I would be happy to join Mobius if it helped you out. If you ran into trouble it would all add to my Combat rating ;)

You see this is the thing, they are a part of Mobius and so that side of things should be sorted. At the same time, if this was real life; they would be welcomed back, with a flotilla and lots of flag waving.

OK, quick update...

Unfortunately the last few days I have had very little play time available. I have managed to cover some distance, but as I was playing until my eyes were drooping (no idea how I didn't fly into several stars) I wasn't in much of a fit state to compose a daily log. Sorry for keeping you all in suspense.

Basic log:
Still alive. Still 5%. Still not safe. Roughly 10,500Ly from Sol. Won't be there tonight, but should be there this weekend.

@Sgt.Barnes. Thanks for the offer, I really do appreciate it. However I think I'm going to take the (slightly) cowardly way out, and do the last stint to the nearest station in Solo (or Mobius, and hope no-one is willing to get blocked). Once I'm safe and my data is sold I will however try and finish the run to Sol in open, and see how far I can get on that last 5% (assuming I have that much left by then). At that point if anyone wants to 'run protection' I'm more than willing to Wing Up (never flown in a wing, no idea how it works to be honest). Feel free to send me a Friend Request in game and we can arrange the meetup when I'm fleeing for my life. :)

..... I've been starting to examine the 'Bubble' trying to decide my best entrance point and landing system....

Just a short note: not all populated systems are inside the bubble. There are a few (both independent and allied) stations outside the bubble, depending on which side you're coming from.

You must be using a different definition of the 'Bubble' to me. My definition stems from the beta phase when we were limited to populated space. All populated systems fall within the 'Bubble'. I guess you are referring to the multi coloured Bubbles from PowerPlay?

Well unless I am really drunk (always a possibility) or totally misunderstood this, but the common frame of reference for the use of the vernacular "bubble" is referring to the multi-colored regions as a whole when selecting the power play display.

I have seen a map with yellow dots on it to show where the 'bubble' expands too, but have not been able you find it in months.

No problem. Good luck and godspeed CMDR o7 Look for me in game if you need me.

Day Um, something!
Start System: Pro Aewsy LD-K d8-120
Distance to Sol: 10,745.00Ly
End System: Byaa Euq MN-S c17-20
Distance to Sol: 7,653.51Ly
Distance covered (relative to Sol): 3091.49Ly
Todays flight time: 2hrs 55min
Systems visited today: 103

Good Ship 'GetTheHellOuttaMyWay' Hull Status: That last 5% is doing well, it's survived 22,000Ly intact!

Lost track of days for the flight owing to a couple of evenings of late night playing until I fell asleep. Todays entertainment - The Knick.

So, hopefully I'm well and truly on the home stretch. Close enough that I could conceivably make it in a single stint if I had an afternoon and evening free. I reckon I can manage 7,000Ly in under 6 hours without killing myself and still managing to scan the primary stars along the way. But I'll not be doing that, two evenings is much more sensible, so I'm now aiming to be safe by Sunday.

Today was yet another routine run. Vast majority of stars were scoopable, the exceptions being Red Dwarves and T-Tauri. I keep scanning the Galaxy Map for anything more interesting, but nothing seems to be showing up. Quite a few close binaries today, and even a few double binaries - two pairs of binary stars orbiting each other. Very interesting to see, even if the geek in me suspects that such a system would not be stable for any appreciable length of time in real life.

So, I'm shutting down the Asp for the night, going cold out in the middle of nowhere. The last few rolls of duct-tape have been applied, and we're ready for anything. Almost.

I'm the other pilot with 5% hull, posted earlier.

I made it back! Hopefully that encourages you...

I did come through the Lagoon Nebula, Thor's Eye and then Shapley 1.

From there, I was going to go to Pratchett's Disc, but then I remembered I was allied with Quince and made that my port of call. Miller Starport is VERY close to the drop point, and it's a decent shop so you can fit good shields and weapons.

I didn't sell my data there though, moved on as wanted some rep elsewhere.

Good luck Commander, you're getting there. :)

I just started Elite Dangerous a couple of weeks ago and have already put in 40 hours. Its things like this that make me love this game! Good luck to you CMDR can't wait to read the rest.

Day: Next to last until safety hopefully!
Start System: Byaa Euq MN-S c17-20
Distance to Sol: 7,653.51Ly
End System: Phylur AX-A c27-29
Distance to Sol: 3,372.15Ly
Distance Travelled (Relative to Sol): 4281.36Ly
Days flight time: 5hrs 6min
Systems Visited Today: 158

Hull Status: 5% despite my best efforts, and at least one forced FSD drop because of loss of concentration.

Todays entertainment: Big Hero 6, Bulletproof Monk, Lewis CK and Lewis Black

OK, so I'm now under 4 route plots until safety. So close I'm almost relaxing - despite the fact I'm probably approaching the most risky part of the trip. But not just yet.

I seemed to pass through a patch where the route plotted wanted to favour Red Dwarves. Twice I had to change the route at the last minute because I was going to run out of fuel otherwise. That would have been embarrassing. My journey has been probably over 60,000Ly total (I'll be able to get a better rough estimate by looking through my log when I'm docked), and I almost run out of fuel when I'm almost home. At least the Fuel Rats won't be far off. :)

Anyway, well and truly ready for a good nights sleep before hitting the final jumps tomorrow. I must remember to do my final ship status check tomorrow. There is still some life left in the AFMU, and I know that some of the modules are not fully at their prime. I also need to make sure everything is turned on, especially my lasers. No need to waste power on them in the deep black, but that's not the case near the bubble.

Right, until tomorrow.

Last Day, stint 1.

Start : Phylur AX-A c27-29

Systems check:
Hull 5%
Thrusters 93%
Shield Generator: 90%
AFMU: 83% & 2071 repair units
Planetary Hangar: 89%
Fuel Scoop: 95%
Cargo Hatch: 83%
Frame Shift Drive: 94%
Life Support: 93%
Power Distributor: 94%
Pulse Laser: 63%
Sensors: 88%
Heat Sink Launcher: 39% and Empty
Cockpit Canopy: 91%
Power Plant: 91%
ADS: 93%
DSS: 100%
Christmas Tree Bobble Head: Bobbling
Coffee Mug: 95%

Today is the day I make the final run to safety. The ship is in reasonably good shape bar the hull, so the first stint should be as trouble free as the last few days. I still haven't decided on my exact point of entry to the bubble, going to get a bit closer first and weigh my options.

Wish me luck...
