2yrs and counting...

Probably true. They had limited time and resources and were told to improve exploraition. More features to find would take a lot of work. Assets, devs, QAs, a lot of their time. But since the feedback was mainly about jump and honk they looked at what they could do. The mile wide inch deep crowd kept saying there was no depth, so FD added depth to the honk and jump mechanic, taking a lot less resources than it would to make a whole boatload of proc gen content for the galaxy.
Taking an empty pool and digging deeper does indeed add depth. Unfortunately, you are conflating depth with content and they are not the same thing.

So, to answer the people wanting to know why the ADS is missed, here is an example....

With the current system, you cannot see this until you have scanned all of the bodies. Yes, you can see the stars, but the rest of the configuration is not revealed until you have scanned each individual element.

With the ADS, you could decide if this was "interesting" without having to scan the whole system BEFORE you made that determination.

I wish I could tell which lottery scratch card I should buy to get a winner without having to go through the rigmarole of buying it and scratching it first.

Apples and Bowling Balls comparison.

It used to be you "honked", pulled up the system map and made a decision to see if it was worth additional time.

Now, you "honk", pull up the arcade game, scan the whole system, then look at the system map to see if it is worth taking more time. D'oh, already invested the time BEFORE I Could make a decision.

As to your folderol, if you want to be offensive, at least come up with something worth getting offended over.

It wasn't asked for by anyone, it was Endorsed when it was rammed down the community's throat.

Years ago I was one of the explorers who regularly asked FDev to improve the exploration game loop, to make it more interactive and more interesting. Of course none of us wanted what we got, there were dozens of great well thought out ideas, concepts, and suggestions all over the web on how to improve exploration gameplay. Instead we got the FSS.

I now wish I could go back and enjoy what we had back then again, because I can't tolerate exploration as it is in game today anymore. The FSS literally killed Elite Dangerous for me, I miss enjoying exploration in Elite.

I'm hoping Odyssey makes salvaging more interactive or improves some other non-combat aspect of the game enough to draw me back in. I have no hopes they will "fix" the FSS, I think that ship has sailed.

Well if the situation won't get improved the only recourse there is to say it sucks. Do you also say that about all the powerplay suggestions, or other topics that need barely one more iteration to make everyone happy but frontier refuses to do? Just have a look, its not as dumb as a few people make it sound. Instead of focusing on an assumption (however likely) of frontiers decision, focus on the game mechanics.
Frontier haven't said they are not going to do anything about Powerplay. It's completely different.

Like I said to Ziggy, you can discuss it, but it seems like a waste of mental energy apart from anything else to me.

2 beggars are still beggars even if one of them thinks he's not.

Yes everyone is obliged to sort themselves out with the thing, absolutely.

I mean, is the forum anything other than a waste of mental energy, and what about video games? I guess they can be a waste of time and money too. :D

I'm just teasing... sort of. Settle down and let people hate obligatory, stupid game-play design as they see fit. :p

I agree... If people believe the game they are playing has stupid gameplay, they deserve everything they get from it... Like the tat that gets shown on the TV that viewers bleat about... No-one is being forced to suffer it... The option to not do so is entirely in the remit of the individual, isn't it?

Nah, the whole game isn't crap. I wouldn't be here if it was. Actually, it's quite great. I love exploration in the game, though I'd love it all that much more if it weren't for the terrible exploration game-play. I make the most of it for what the game has to offer, which, fortunately, is something rather nice overall.

Before this game I used to spend some time now and then getting lost in Celestia and finding my way back home. I'm here for the galactic sci-fi experience, not cheesy mini games, but to each their own of course. Just calling it like I see it.

Which is exactly what I agreed with...

My opinion differs to yours on exploration, and I was playing for about a year pre-3.3, so had the awful ADS until 3.3 (different strokes :) ) Added around 0.5 million LY since 3.3 - it would have been much more, but I joined a squadron and spent months not exploring.

To be fair, I haven't really watched TV much for something like 20 years, so I'll take your word for it. :D
Cheers.

I'll raise your 20 years, to more like 40 :ROFLMAO:
(and at least 20 without a TV in the house!)

My wife reads all of the complaints from "Social Media" out to me, as I don't bother with that either.

We'll both have to take her word for it
