none, you just drop into the instance, select the beacon and face it, to do a basic ship scan on it.

Can anyone please confirm whether it still works to "refresh" a HGE by logging? I tried it several times now and it does not work for me but maybe I'm doing something wrong.

I'm looking for High Grade Emissions, and when I don't find them in the correct system, I jump away and come back. In 20 jumps I saw them once, they expired before I got to them again.
I have not seen the emissions in the Civil Unrest stars (I visited all the one close (close = within 100lY, 2 jumps for me) and I simply can't "see" them.
People talk at sitting and waiting for them to spawn, I don't see this on YT videos.
Many have commented that this is the least fun part of ED. I have now "wasted" 5 hours. Not even picked up a single HGE.

I scan the nav beacon - then on going back to supercruise I can see if there are any HGE listed in the nav panel. Selecting them in turn reveals what state the "owning" minor faction is in and how long there is left on the timer. (There is no need to do the old "fly around hoping to find an HGE" since the introduction of the FSS anyway.)
The preponderance of HGE in Empire systems seems a lot higher (purely anecdotal impression) so filling-up with Imp Shielding is easy and just trade that if necessary but I have filled up with mil sups and mil grade armour too in local Imp systems and proto heat radiators are just silly common lately. (N.B. I have not used the exploit mentioned above, there are so many HGE that it probably is unnecessary and it would really spoil immersion to do it.)

To OP - you may add to your "list" a very important "detail" - the CLOCK.
When you are lucky enough, and you get 2-3 HG locations, ALWAYS check all of them time wise BEFORE you start to the first one !
Obvious, choose the first one the one who have less time on clock.

Have you been using the FSS?
If you are, and aren't finding many HGE in the particular system you're using, I'd recommend not jumping out and back into the same system, but using a different system that has the same faction/states you're using.
To note, do keep an eye on the system state and the fact that systems will have different states going on within them, aside from the shown controlling faction state.
What in particular are you searching for, if you don't mind me asking?
You can logoff/in near the Nav beacon and scan it again,it's quicker, or after relogging in, go SC... FSS the system again ( there are not many USS so it's a quick work that too)
you'll surely find the right instance with just on HGE on "long timer" to farm, this morning I replenished all Imperial Shieldings, Military Grade Alloys and a couple others G5 Manuf Mats.
