A Guide to Minor Factions and the Background Sim

Is it wishful thinking, or has the Galactic Map been updated with political changes?
The galmap is only updated with a client update. I think this is due to server load.

The system map polls its data directly from the transaction server (?) and is therefore always current.

Greetings CMDRs,

I want to know how the influence is taken into account each day regarding the tick (around 11H00 GMT) ?

- Does all actions are taking into account between each tick (from 11:01 to 10:59) ?
or
- Actions between 00:00 to 23:59 are taken into account each day AND updated when the tick occur next day ?

Questions is a bit strange but we have some weird stats...

Thanks all for your replies.

EDIT : let me know if it is not clear ....

We usually assume that actions within 1 - 2 hours of the tick don't get included in that day's influence update. But it's very hard to isolate an exact cutoff time.

So the influence update at Day 1 - 11:00 would include actions from approximately Day 0 - 10:00 through Day 1 - 10:00

This is a great thread, but given it's 157 pages, forgive me if this question has been asked before:

If a system is an Anarchy, can the controlling faction be negatively impacted by smuggling illegal goods? I saw somewhere that smuggling in anarchies has a positive influence instead. Can this be confirmed?

Some good news for those who enjoy the BGS. The faction allegiance colours and government info on the galaxy map has been fixed today. It's possible that it's only a temporary update, we'll have to wait and see what happens over the next few days.

Personally, it's nice to see alot of new green systems on the map after more than a year of working the BGS! :D

a) there are no illegal goods in an anarchy jurisdiction, so there is no illegal trade.

b) illegal trade has a positive effect influence for any station controlling faction, but also comes with lockdown (and, if scanned, with civi unrest and lockdown and a negative influence effect through gaining fines) -> see first post of this thread.

c) selling STOLEN goods is counted as "piracy" afaik, and comes with an negative influence effect (no matter controlling factions jurisdiction) - this is a problem for many pirate factions.

Not me wishfully thinking then - thanks for the confirmation.

Yeah, we flipped a system yesterday and I noticed with some shock that the Gal map showed the proper info. Unfortunately, I can't say it changed with the flip, because I had given up on that a long time ago, and was not paying attention. I'll pay more attention in the future.

Hey, got a quick question for ya'll

Is it better (in terms of influence) to sell a single needed item in BULK, or a bunch of in-demand items piece meal? Like you're in a cutter, and you know they demand food, should I buy equal portions of food? Or just the one with highest demand? Maybe the one with the greatest profit? How should I proceed from a BGS perspective.

I recently went into Boom with a Pending Expansion sat waiting in the inbox. So I needed to start a War, far easier than trying to trade your way out of Boom in my experience. But my faction was leading in the 4 systems I am in, a 5th system I am second only to my fellow Cmdr's faction, and the last War I had there gave me no CZ's so that place was a none starter as an option.
So I chose my system to use, and worked hard on lowering my faction and raising the nearest other faction. I got my War and it started yesterday.

Oh wow ... not had a War like this one. Myself (FAS) and my fellow Cmdr (Vette) took some punishment. I thought this is ok, then time after time I'd shoot on one ship and get jump by 4 or 5 ships and have to run, turn and take them on slowly, then run again and they kept on following. I expected them to follow, part of the tactics. But this repeated and repeated. My fellow experiencing the same in his Vette, but obviously able to handle it a bit better.
So after cashing in, we went to a different CZ, same again.
Cash in, and another CZ. Same again.
Unbelievable. High or Low, the pace was relentless. It felt like a proper battle, unlike the 'ducks in a barrel shoots' that some have been.

All this got me to thinking.

Is there a difference between a defensive War (as in my case, afterall my faction is the leader) than an offensive War (the other faction which I raised)?
Would I find it easier fighting if I was supporting the opposition in this case, not that I am going to?
The reason I ask is that all the wars I have taken part in so far have been on the offensive side of my faction or my fellows faction.

I wonder if anyone else has had this experience.

We've experienced something similar, yes.

I'm not sure of the actual mechanics, but it seems that the role of attacker or defender in a particular CZ affects the aggression displayed by the NPCs and the number of reds/greens that spawn.

Thanks, the reason I ask is that I come across Anarchy systems, and stations have black markets, so I was wondering if there was the concept of illegal goods in an Anarchy

What would be the best to end lockdown? What does help the faction in lockdown?

Current activities:

- Handing in bounties.
- Smuggling to a station owned by another faction.
- Doing certain charity missions (some foods, medicines and weapons) seems to have a positive effect too.

Thanks in advance!

Selling in-demand items individually used to have an outsized influence effect. That behaviour was patched out in 2.0.0.8. I've heard that people are experimenting with 10t batches now.

Check out the Eravate BGS thread for the post I'm referring to.
