A Guide to Minor Factions and the Background Sim

And yet, the controlling station is an outpost without repair, the planetary station is of higher value than the other outpost because of population and all the while we are left p***ing in the wind and guessing what is what.

The game existed before Horizon. Yes. FD should have given the biggest planetary base to the main faction and maybe flipped it, but let's be serious here:

Elite is a game, so FD wants all players - owning Horizon or not - to be able to flip a system and use the main station. So it will always be a space station.
L if a L station exists... or one of the Ms.

I have a quick question about flipping stations. Recently we (the teabaggers) flipped Teaka and took control of the main station. Despite being at 65+ the civil war ended after the system flipped and despite keeping our influence around 65% for a few days, another civil war is not pending (checked the sytems the other faction has a presence in, no wars ongoing or pending there either.)

The question is: Do we need to equalise the factions' influence to trigger another civil war, or can we drop down below 60% influence and then move back up above 60% to trigger it?

If the answer is known either way, great. If nobody knows, we will try it and report back to you.

Only supremacy (conquest) wars can be triggered with 60%+. The others need to be taken in direct wars.

Thanks. Looks like we have a lot of work on our hands since the deposed faction has slumped to 24% and is in civil unrest.

Oh well, at least we know. Might as well get started.

I'm not advocating making the Planetary system the controlling station, but don't make the 'hidden' population of a 'port' the deciding factor between the competition of 2 ports. I will be going into Election soon with the controlling faction for the controlling outpost but it almost feels like that the Planetary Station should be the main in this case, but it isn't by virtue of it being on a planet and nothing else. And that is just silly.

I flipped enough systems. When you attack the main faction, you always get the system control space station first. ALWAYS. No reference needed but the game.

Is there a list anywhere of which type of Governments result in an Election as opposed to a War (other than two of the same type)?

Any different government type will result in a war, only same government types will result in election - even dictatorships. The difficulty is that same government types with different superpower alliegences can have different names!

are you sure? will a cooperative go to war with a democracy? i always wanted to do such a list ... one day.

Not quite. Only pirate factions ALWAYS go to war from what I can tell. The likelihood of war instead of election increases the more different your factions are... but it is by no means a foregone conclusion.

We are a cooperative and many local factions are democracies and we have had many elections against them.

WRONG

All democracies (Cooperative / Communism / Confederacy / Democrats) elect with each other. As do autocrats (Dictators/Patronage etc.) with each other. You just need to know what type yours is.

By govt type I meant family of gov type. It depends on how they are grouped. Not sure if that thread is accurate. From comments here i suspect not. We work in alliance space mostly so its not an area I'm expert in.
