A One Ship Commander

I owned the Python for less than 24 hours on my 2+ year old PS4 account. I didn't like it for a multitude of reasons, your reason included. But now, in VR, it has one of the coolest bridges IMO. The canopy framing is not in the way, and it gives a nice sense of depth perspective that really sets apart the ship from the backdrop.
Even in standard desktop monitor based ED, I have never found any of the cockpit/canopy designs particularly problematic personally.

I have my Python configured as a mining vessel and it was the first ship I ever did mining in.

I just finished engineering my new Python, the Darksaber, and I'm enjoying this as a VR ship. The bridge definitely gives me that, "I'm flying a proper spaceship" feel, in contrast to "I am the spaceship" in 2D and the "I'm flying a giant greenhouse / fishbowl" like the Vulture in VR. Speaking of, I had to sell my beloved Vulture to afford it, along with some other ships, and I still only have enough credits for one rebuy. I'm actually okay with this, as it gives the ship more intrinsic value if losing it actually hurts.

I have three ships that I just can't part with right now - my stealth Dolphin (which will be even more stealthy after the next update), my Type-7 (love that ship), and my Eagle (the most fun ship to fly in VR). I also have two ships in mothballs until we get space legs - my Federal Corvette and Type-9. I got both of these for a super price during the recent interstellar initiative, so I really can't sell them, unless I'm desperate for liquid credits. Neither are properly outfitted to use day-to-day, so there is no temptation there anyway. I consider them an "inheritance" I'll get someday in the future.

Obviously this doesn't make me a true one-ship captain, but Han Solo flew an Imperial Shuttle for a mission (and a Tauntaun and who knows what else) , so it's not like I can't have access to a couple other ships for special occasions. I figure if I perform the majority of my activities using one ship, it's still like being a one-ship CMDR, as some of you have pointed out.

I think that the Cobra Mk iii should be the starter ship as it's cheap and easily maintainable in the current era of easy credits, it would teach newbies a lot more about the game than a Sidewinder (which is also an awesome ship) and potentially is more fun for newbies as such. They can upgrade or downgrade to smaller or larger ships as desired.

A tuff call for me now to only pick one ship.
I have a few, many actually, each engineered for a certain task.
I'd have to think long and hard to pick only one ship now.
Don't know if that's possible.

I'm trying to decide now. I'm a SLF lover and I am torn between the keelback and the krait. Need a medium ship so I can land anywhere. The krait is perfect but too sexy and sleek. I like the industrial look. So Im flying the keelback now but the cargo space is lacking. I may have to get rid of the limpet controller and scoop black boxes the old fashioned way.

Not for me. Ships are tools, and there is no One Tool. An Axe makes a lousy pair of pliers.
I totally understand. What about just one tool for a particular job? One ship dedicated to cargo running, one ship dedicated to deep-space exploring, one ship dedicated for combat, and one multipurpose soccer mom minivan? That's basically what I ended up with, with the minivan being my principle ship for day-to-day activities.

This is how it starts. And in no time you go from ONE ship to Thirty

I've been playing for almost three years, and I never have owned enough ships at one time to require scrolling down the list in the shipyard. As a minimalist IRL, hording goes against my nature, be it ships, modules, etc. I already feel like I have too many ships with the FOUR I currently use!

Yes, I know, I'm the odd duck out. The uproar in the delay of Fleet Carriers (which I could care less about) is ample proof that I'm the exception rather than the rule.

Having one of every ship personally, I do kind of see where you are coming from - in practice, I probably only use 3-4 (possibly 6 at most) of my ships on anything like a regular basis but then most of my ships are kitted out for specific roles at the moment.

We do not know for certain that we will be able to store multiple own ships on either a carrier we own nor anyone-elses. It is perhaps not an unreasonable expectation, but we do not have sufficient evidence to support the idea that things will pan out that way.

I've been contemplating this myself. a single ship...

My choice would be between the courier and Cobra III I reckon...

Cobra is well famous for it's flexibility but I've discovered a new found enjoyment for hooning and the courier can get a lot faster than the Cobra...

The viper mk iv is totally awesome, makes an excellent combat/recon - not too bad as an explorer either, great for guardian sites.

Very true mate. The only real issue is the top speed compared to my courier.... But it's thruster response is crazy so with the right amount of boost scoop turns etc it can turn on a dime and set off at full speed again... so still capable of some fun hoonage, just not a silly speeds.

I did the whole one ship thing for a while when I started. \spent so long with the Cobra III 'Miss B Haven' that when the time came to upgrade I couldn't part with it. Same happened with it's 'replacement' an Asp X 'Void Insurance'. After that the credits started to come more easily so ships got bought on a whim. Some of them have clear roles, others are multi-role with loadouts getting frequently changed depending on what is needed and some are just hangar queens. One downside is that I don't think I have fully engineered any ship yet. Perhaps this will be the year that I get around to unlocking all the engineers and fully upgrading some of my ships.
