Don't really care myself.

I like Steam a lot, and have bucket loads of games on Steam.

Getting a Steam key locks your game to Steam forever. Having to load up Steam to play Elite is no different to having to use the Frontier launcher.

Well, actually, I've just got three or 4 games on Steam. I'm fine with it, but I'm too old school to have these things run automatically from start-up, and I find nearly half the time I start Steam manually it doesn't work first time. It also bugs me about keeping my details up to date quite a lot, and recently has tried running an executable I know nothing about when I run ARMA 3. I don't get any of that with Elite,

.....but having said that, I still fail to see how my gaming experience is so much better without an off-line mode. Bah humbug.

It is obvious what the poll will read with all the cheapskates expecting to get key.

Buy another copy and continue to show your support for the game, or be happy with what you already have.

Cheapskates? I paid £500 for my copy. My choice, I know. But please don't call me - or anyone else who's paid the full price - a "cheapskate". It's incredibly disingenuous to call people that simply because they'd like to add a game they've already purchased to their Steam library (rather than through 'add non-Steam game', which any Steam user will tell you simply isn't the same).

The developers of Road Redemption did exactly this. If you bought it from their own store they give you a key when it went live on steam.

I do use Steam quite a lot so if FD issued us Steam keys I would use mine, but I wouldn't complain about not getting one if they decided not to. To be honest, I am surprised at how many people I have spoken to who have never even heard of Elite: Dangerous; being available on Steam is only going to draw more players in to the game and if existing players can fully integrate in to Steam without extra charge there will be more folk spreading the word and making their friends aware of the game.

So, I voted yes.

Would love a Steam key simply so it tracks my hours played and shows other people im playing ED! People think ive gone from hardcore gamer to playing nothing when they look at my Steam profile, as all my times going into ED which wasnt on Steam until now :D

Also its often the case that if your Steam friends see you playing something it leads to them playing it or at least trying it too. Word of mouth is a powerful thing. I always get messages asking how something im playing is and whether its worth looking at.

For the ignorant soul that I am

1) What benefit would having a steam key allow? Is it just a way to run ED though steam, rather than the launcher? Or shall it just incriminate me by recording the hours played

2) Will Steam be charging FDev for any key they issue us with. I remember that being a factor when CK2 steam keys were given to those who originally purchased their game via GG and everything was migrated over to steam

Kickstarter backer here and heavy Steam user, so it goes without saying that it would be nice to have the game in my steam library.
+1 to having a steam key (please)

Did I say I don't have a steam account ? No , I do have some games on steam ,that does not change the fact I don't like that I'm forced into it .

I purchased ED a few weeks ago and would have held off if I had known it was being released on Steam. I prefer to buy all my games on Steam to get the auto-updating and integration with the Steam Community. I'd definitely like a Steam key, even if they have to charge a few $ to cover the overhead of Steam.

I use Steam for all my games and actually would have preferred to purchase it on Steam originally. It makes it easier to keep track of my installers more than anything, and I very much would like to transfer my Key to Steam if possible (I don't need to have 2 copies of the game to be clear, but would rather it be on Steam)

"You get another process to run in the background"

ROFL!

What an argument.

Can we have a DOS version then please?

You make it sound like Steam is some insane resource hog.

Gief keys.
