A poll regarding Steam keys for Elite : Dangerous owners

I understand this, and you are right, but think about this, every day that FD does not release steam keys, someone else is going to buy a second copy of the game, I am sure of this because people are strange. The day they release steam keys, there will be a drop in sales and they will be angering all those who bought a second copy. Today is also not a holiday, nor was yesterday, or the day before that, it's actually a fairly normal workweek. Also they haven't been very communicative. Whether or not FD are actually up to no good behind the curtain is actually besides the point, honestly they may be completely innocent of any wrong doing, but that doesn't really matter, what does matter is that it LOOKS like they are up to no good, they are giving off an IMPRESSION of being swindlers, and that's enough these days to set many people against them. I don't want this, I like Frontier, ED is an awesome game, believe it or not I consider what I'm doing good for the company, I'm trying to do my part to help steer public opinion in the direction that helps Frontier see what the people want, and also help them see that by not releasing steam keys they are making it seem as if all they care about is money and they're turning their backs on their backers. I only want the best for Frontier, and I believe that not releasing steam keys to the people who made this game possible in the first place is not what's best for Frontier, it's giving them a bad image and I want this to stop by trying to convince them to release the keys.
Don't buy a second copy, that's just what they want, have patience and they'll probably just give out steam keys
No offence meant but its hardly swindling is it. If someone buys a jacket in one store then goes of their own volition to another store and buys the same jacket you can't call the 1st store swindlers. People make their choices with their money. If FD said people with an original licence couldn't buy another on Steam there would be even more backlash. As for people buying 2 copies because they're "strange" thats up to them not FD. You can't run a company strategy because there are a group of people in the world who are strange (not meant to be an insult to those passionate people who buy another copy to be on Steam or who feel they are doubly supporting FD by doing so) and may act differently to others. Just let FD come to a conclusion. Its not like its a huge bug thats preventing us playing the sim. Maybe they didn't anticipate the passionate response to this issue before they launched it on Steam. If so they'll live and learn and come back to us. Peace.
Why on earth are there people like you who are defending corporations. Don't you understand that they are out to get all the money they can in any way possible, even if that means screwing over consumers. Your jacket analogy is nonsense, it is standard practice among many game companies to give free steam keys to existing users, it costs them nothing, and it means better reviews on steam from existing players. I understand if you think I'm being unfair towards Frontier, but this is a business man, if companies are not held accountable for their actions they will prey upon us. So listen carefully, Frontier is not releasing steam keys to existing players in the hopes that some people will buy the game twice. That is not fair and honest business practice my friend, especially considering that they needed money from backers just to release ED. These guys don't need you defending them, they aren't on your side, you can trust me when I say that they will try everything and anything if it means higher profits, large companies like this don't have morals, none of them do, ever, it's always about money, always, don't you get it?
Although a Steam key would be nice for all the reasons people mentioned (social interaction, achievements, reviews, community), and I voted to get one (why not?), some of the vitriol shown by some folks is truly puzzling.
There are TON's of games that I purchased CD-ROM versions of that I repurchased again on Steam. Hell, I think I've purchased Doom 3, 3 times. The last time, just to get the BFG edition with the Doom 1 and Doom 2 content. I was an original purchaser of Flight Simulator X, but bought the Steam version as well. None of these publishers gave them to me. I purchased them.
I even re-purchased stuff on Steam that I already had on Steam because the bundle made it cheaper to get all the DLC.
If I get a key, great, if not, I'll wait until it goes on sale, and buy a second copy.
As far as everyone crying foul because you "spent more" and got "less". What rubbish. You got the opportunity to play this game well in advance of the rest of us. You were instrumental in it's early development. Although your name isn't on the wall you have the satisfaction of knowing that you made a difference. Crowdfunders are "investors" you got what was contracted to you. But now you want more? How does that work? When FD eliminated offline mode, they offered a refund because of implied breach of contract. You had the option of bowing out then. You stayed. You got what was contracted to you. You got early access to the game, you got a headstart on everyone else. Many of you who became explorers have massive areas of space with your name emblazoned for everyone to see. You got additional experience and time so you can build up tremendous ships with firepower to destroy me with one hit should you wish.
And you're complaining over a Steam Key?
What an entitlement centered society we have become.
If FD see's fit to give me a Steam Key I will say thank you and show my appreciation. But when I laid my 60 bucks down, I knew going in that there was a chance this would eventually show up on Steam. The hours I have already put in this game make it one of the better entertainment investments I have ever made, Steam key or not.
Elite Dangerous is everything I ever wanted in the original 85 game and then some. Steam support just makes it more plausible that ED will be available to play for years to come.
Now go out and play this fantastic game and stop grousing around like old men in a barbershop...There's a universe to discover and money to be made....

(Why state that ED is not going to be released on Steam ...and then do just that without any warning or explanation??? It is either foolishness or arogance? Why do it when you have worked with such a strong community to fund this game... It's like the single player issue all over again. I have got Steam keys for several games that I bought outside of steam and have NEVER been charged a penny , also if you buy a game from a retailer cheaper than you can on Steam you can go to " Add Game " in Steam and enter the product key - Wallah you have a Steam Game

1. A key isn't the same thing as a game license.
2. Read the update.

It could take a few weeks to work through, but we hear your feedback and addressing it is a priority for all of us."

I own a couple of games I bought out of Steam and then used that same key to get it validated through Steam and it worked. I would love something similar with Elite. If there are any additional fees due to Valve handling extra bandwidth or what have you, maybe we could pay a modest "transfer fee" or something if free isn't an option.
However, I AM a backer, I already paid extra money, and as such I'll be cheeky and say that it would be a nice perk not to have to pay it.
The main issue about having to buy a new Steam copy (aside from the extra money) is that my extra Eagle won't be available on a new account. Basically I'd be losing my perks as a backer, despite the fact that I paid for the game twice (and one of them was charged extra due to the backing).
Yes, I have added it to Steam as non-Steam game, but I want more integration with Steam. I own a lot of games and I write reviews, and Steam helps with that.

I'm all for the steam key.
Anybody who's had to rebuild a dead OS or upgraded to a new computer will understand why. The convenience of automatically re-installing all of your games via steam is hard to match.

I use Macrium Reflect to backup my drives, why keep re-downloading stuff you already have?
Steam is just a shop with some bells and whistles
You get the game on Steam in your library just as if you actually purchased it from Steam using both methods

Ok, I will try to explain, again. Steam run a business. They aren't Oxfam for gamers. In order for them to support a product they have to get something back. In the majority of cases they do this by selling the product. Yes, it is possible to get some games aquired from elsewhere activated on Steam, but by no means all of them.
Whether or not Steam agree to support legacy owners of a game depends entirely upon the type of contract the particular developer/publisher has set up with Valve when they retail the product, or any subsequent negotiated deal.
Secondly you didn't actually read the post directly from the developers did you? It will cost FD money to do this. That isn't a disputable point.
