Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

ED Forum Folk: "You aren't doing anything about the cheats!"

F.D: "We are doing stuff about the cheats."

ED Forum Folk: "No you aren't? You only say it's a small number of cheaters because of shareholders too! Say a number to prove you are doing something about it..."

F.D: <what are you doing>

ED Forum Folk: "I bet if you gave us a number, you'd have made it up! Shareholders!!!"

F.D: "We're still doing stuff about it."

ED Forum Folk: "You are not, because I can't see you doing it."

F.D "I had a cup of coffee earlier."

ED Forum Folk: "No you didn't."

F.D "Ok, I didn't.... whatevs."

ED Forum Folk: "You didn't even have a bloody biscuit did you. Prove you didn't have one!"

F.D "I can't prove I didn't, but I have a photo of a drink and snack here look."

ED Forum Folk: "Ok. I was wrong about that."

F.D "Ha ha! It was a ruddy stock image!!!"

Dank strawman you built there.

Hello Commanders,

We wanted to take some time to address some of the concerns the community has raised regarding the use of cheats in Elite Dangerous.

Cheating in our game is something that we take very seriously, and do not condone. Using a cheat engine, mod, hack etc. is in direct violation of the Terms and Service and EULA agreed to by all players upon setting up a Frontier account. We support honest competition between players, different playstyles and each Commander’s ability to blaze their own trail, and we strive for them to be able to do this in a fair, safe environment.

We continuously work alongside our development and support teams to combat the tools that make cheating possible, and to take action against accounts found to be using them.

As with any online game, combatting cheating is an ongoing process, and something that we are always working against. We work continuously to review and improve the tools, tracking and the safeguards required in order to tackle issues when they arise. We are not able to discuss the specifics of tools and processes that we have, as this would give the cheaters a significant advantage in being able to circumvent these efforts.

When it comes to taking actions against accounts we have identified as using cheats, we review every report on a case by case basis. While there has been a level of discussion regarding these cheats within the community recently, we can assure people that the number of people using these are a very tiny number of players. We are still working on new and improved ways of stopping these cheats and tracking and measuring activity now and in the past.

We strongly advise that no player runs Elite Dangerous using a cheat client, hack, software mod etc as this will put your account at risk now, and in the future.

We also advise against promoting or publicising of any programs which claim to mod/hack or cheat for Elite Dangerous. Doing so can give players a false sense of legitimacy regarding these programs and ultimately lead to increased risk to players accounts. Rest assured that we continue to actively work on and address cheating in all forms and will continue to do so.

If you come across a player you suspect is cheating, please do use the in-game reporting tool to send us that information. You’re also welcome to contact our support team via a ticket to provide supporting evidence such as photos or videos.

Thank you for your time, and fly safe.

I really hope this was NOT prompted by me asking on stream. And regardless of reason this is still very very late and ... doesn't really say anything?

Thanks, I'm patently not your mate or named "champ", but the point is you stopped playing, told us all about it, but the cheaters stopped you coming back?

No, the topic of cheaters gave you an opportunity. But thanks for coming back to tell us you're out there trying to damage the game and the company, for reasons that you have aleady admitted had nothing to do with cheating.
I've stopped playing because of the cheating situation now as well, shortly before I did I had tried to convince unicorn to come back and play for a little bit, for old times sake. But frankly neither of us were really up for it with the prospect of meeting an impossible fight. If the game's got a cheating problem and FD aren't seen to be doing anything beyond a statement that basically just says "we're working on it, go bug someone else" (sorry guys, but that really is what it looks like) then I really hope they're doing something sneaky to catch the whole lot of them, because if not... well, I might just not come back at all. Nothing wrong with advising people to do the same if there's a serious issue like this. Honesty isn't a crime

From what I've seen from Frontier on this subject and others, is their statement of "We are doing something" is little more than a placation. I sincerely suspect when certain player groups test Frontier's supposed stance on cheating again in the future we will be similarly disappointed by their inaction and another placating copypasta boilerplate. Frontier got themselves into this and will have to find a way to regain the community's trust. I suspect they will have to live with some degree of skepticism forever since there will be players like myself that sincerely believe Frontier will never be able to fully regain the trust they have lost by repeatedly making statements such as these when they have either no intention or no capability to back their words with actions, on the principle of "once a liar, always a liar". I do think some people at Frontier genuinely care about this issue, but they are not the people in the positions that matter. My heart really does go out to those people, but the company only reacts to PR nightmares so massive public campaigns like this are really the only way to do things productively from the players' perspective.

Hey Paige Harvey!
Cheaters are not the only problem. Our community is also very disappointed with bots participating in PP and BGS. For instance, almost 20-30 cycles we have been pushed to expanse in unprofitable system BD-10 5238 (100 000 merits each cycle!) Also in BGS we face same bot ships with huge, unhuman amounts of influence as well as huge amount of traffic in the system. Those bot CMDRs have already been seen and been reported to you by another power participants, and nothing have been done so far, unfortunately.

This cheating episode is definitely not why I'm not playing ED anymore, it is however one of the long list of reasons why I have no plans of coming back yet.
Actively recommending against ED isn't my form of doing things, everybody should make up their own mind wether they want to play or buy this game or not.
If people ask me wether they should buy this game then I'll tell them about the many flaws but I will also tell them that you can get an easy two hundred hours of fun out it, which isn't to bad for it's price.

@Paige Harvey

Hi, may I ask if Cmdr Dr Kai’s ED PROFILER is classed as a not advised to use application ..I along with a large majority of VR users have used it to smooth out the gfx effects whilst in VR , I’m assuming Voice Attack is ok ?

....you forgot the HUD colour mod.

.............still on-topic? I hope.

“Only a small number of people are using these cheats”... That’s ALL of the griefers in Elite, which are the only people that everyone else is bothered about. Most PVPers worth their salt ain’t using them, so why not do what EVERY OTHER GAMES COMPANY does and BAN THEM?

I'm really not sure based on what rules posts are being silently removed here. Unless any negative report to the topic is already considered 'off-topic' of course. In which case someone's just invented the perfect generator for echo chambers. 🆒
They're removing posts? That's not a good thing at all.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.

It ain't a conspiracy to cover up anything. It's just the mods trying to keep this thread focused. If 'negative' replies were being removed this thread would be a lot shorter!

5) Avoid Spamming, or off-topic replies.
Spam is defined as posting content to the forums that is completely irrelevant to the forum or thread. For example, gibberish or mindless bumping.

Please avoid deliberately disruptive content such as back-to-back posts, posts that are significantly off topic, or continuous replies to posts in a short period of time.

Frankly, I'd be less concerned.... if that OP Dev Post wasn't a 100% standard Textblock.

That's the type of text block answer you occasionally get from bigger Corporations or maybe low-tier Tech Support - upon receipt you just know it doesn't mean much.

Rest assured.... we don't like it... we're actively working on it... trust us....have faith
Well, that doesn't hold up very well if folks are already openly demonstrating the opposite. Especially since we've heard exactly those generic Text block answers countless times in the past - with identical results.

Not building confidence that is IMHO.

In the MultiPlayer worlds I came from, public naming and transparent punishing were the Alpha and Omega of all anti-cheat measures ever taken.
For all to see, sometimes for public amusement. Fully intentional.
Because those MMO Professionals who ran the show knew it was the only way to recoup the Image and Reputation loss (ongoing cheating being public knowledge and an issue) and at the same time put a very clear warning sign for potential to-be-cheaters what would await them.

Key word here being : full transparency
And that just happens to mean : hang 'em high. In public. "Naming & Shaming" rules do not apply, wrong target audience.

Couple of points;

Player-Base; Don't blame the Community reps..

Community reps; Removing posts shows an unwillingness to accept your playerbase, and in another way, hide something.

On-Topic;

Nothing will change in the short-term. One hopes, that while cheating/game-modding is to be abhorred, the recent example, highlights to Fdev how serious an issue it is, and they get off their collective bottoms and do something about it.

The vast majority of what's left of PvP groups will ban you instantaneously if they find out you're hacking. Don't kid yourself.

See.

This what happens when players have a lack of news & updates the game future ;)

Players have nothing to discuss about so they jump on everything they can.

Don't take me wrong...cheating is a problem but I'm pretty sure that if we would have other things to discuss and hype about this whole thing wouldn't have taken these proportions.

So let's continue to discuss about cheating then 💀
