About that double-engineered FSD reward for the CG...

It's 15% extra. Ships that already jump far benefit the most. On a DBX/AspX/Phantom explorer you will see 5-6ly more, on a Chieftain/Challenger/Crusader it'll be more like 2ly extra.
Chieftain is a lovely explorer. I know some of you might hate it, but this ship needs more love :) It has the looks, the rest is story. :)

One of your size 5 FSDs is slightly inferior, all your other sized FSDs are inherently equal to anyone else’s.

Decals as rewards would at least reduce the server load on the forums.

I can only fly one ship at a time.
That ship is normally an explorer with a size 5 FSD.
That FSD used to have the maximum possible jump range.
Now it's inferior by almost 10%.
At present there is no way to make it better.

I'd rather deal with facts than dismissive platitudes, thank you very much.

Mine finally showed up in storage yesterday. I wasn't too concerned about flexing on whiners, but now that it's here...

WOOOOO! EXTRA 3 LIGHTYEARS! SEE YOU LOSERS AT BEAGLE POINT A WHOLE... a whole uh... 30 minutes faster?

Yeah, well. I'm not going back to beagle. Just know that if I did, I'd get there a half hour faster than you, because my ship is superior, and your 70ly DBX is now 100% completely useless. Might as well self destruct and take the starter Sidey, y'all, cause you'll never see this incredible range-- never ever! Oh man, I'm gonna get places soooo much faster now.

So, appears some have a CG FSD that works; fitted my Python with it, all I can get it to do is jump into a perpetual fsd tunnel, then crash into Orange Sidewinder [if I wait 5mins for it to time out]. Worth nothing, so I reinstalled my grade 5 LR FSD. Now I can jump.

I've actually got two that work. Maybe I should put one of them on my Python and test this.

It is disappointing how so many people can completely misunderstand / not comprehend why so many people were upset by this.....on that same notion it probably also means I am wasting my time by posting about it.

The fsd added about 5ly to my phantom, but the lower integrity does make a difference when boosting out from neutron stars in my opinion. Before one boost took little under 1%, depending on how much longer you stay in the cone after you're overcharged for the jump. I tested out the new fsd with neutrons yesterday and it seems to eat out little bit more than before. Also the added thermal load makes the temperature jump up little bit quicker when you're still scooping and charging. So all together It is nice to have little bit more range, you'll definitely save some jumps in long run, maybe even the need to use jumponium, but you trade it for the need to stop more often to repair your fsd and in my case also the mats to synth more heatsinks. Think about that. I think the fsd simply isn't for every ship or commander that can equip it. Peace out

Did something similar yesterday and came to the same conclusion. Decided that for my explorer Phantom I'm going to stick with the standard G5 FSD and install this new one in my bubble taxi. Jumping and scooping in my cool engineered explorer Phantom would save me more time in the long run.

Since I use said Phantom as explorer ship rather than jumpship I think Im gonna stick with the double engineered. When Im out exploring I land on planets often thus giving me time to repair while plotting to next destination and also I dont use neutron stars that often. The added heat is more my concern. Before I knew i can start charging for next jump as soon as possible even if still scooping and my temp would rarely go above 90. Yesterday though I had to use heatsinks twice already. On the other hand I remember using heatsinks maybe once or twice in my entire phantom exploration carrier. As Maehara said
So: FDev actually did some thinking about how to balance the extra range benefit (...)
I think this is actually well balanced and it's not gonna give just an advantage
