About that double-engineered FSD reward for the CG...

Since I use said Phantom as explorer ship rather than jumpship I think Im gonna stick with the double engineered. When Im out exploring I land on planets often thus giving me time to repair while plotting to next destination and also I dont use neutron stars that often. The added heat is more my concern. Before I knew i can start charging for next jump as soon as possible even if still scooping and my temp would rarely go above 90. Yesterday though I had to use heatsinks twice already. On the other hand I remember using heatsinks maybe once or twice in my entire phantom exploration carrier. As Maehara said

I think this is actually well balanced and it's not gonna give just an advantage
Low Emissions Thermal Spread powerplant FTW.

^^ 100% this. Makes a hell of a difference to scooping on an Exploration ship, if you can suck up the power reduction that comes with the Low Emissions mod. G2/G3 is enough for most ships.
There's also the mass increase which sounds counter-productive, but I find the increase in speed of fuelling makes up for the slight drop in jump range. Besides, you can be quite selective with power when you're out in the black (turn off fsd booster/fuel scoop for shields when landing etc) so you can get away with a fairly minimal power plant anyway.

So, appears some have a CG FSD that works; fitted my Python with it, all I can get it to do is jump into a perpetual fsd tunnel, then crash into Orange Sidewinder [if I wait 5mins for it to time out]. Worth nothing, so I reinstalled my grade 5 LR FSD. Now I can jump.
Seems as if the Guardian Booster interferes with FSD jump; uninstalled Guardian Booster and can jump just fine. Will re-install Guardian Booster in the future to see if it was just a bad day one off random event. FSD really nice on my Python, when conducting Black Box recovery ops - in and out of a Threat Level 4 instance quickly. 5 hostiles arrived just a as I recovered 4 boxes via size 5a collector (2 collectors); they scanned I boosted and FSD spun up and I was out of there even with FSD disruption by factor 17 disruptive mass. Did two missions same scenario. Like this FSD. Black Box Recovery mission

For what it's worth, both my CG FSDs work fine with the Guardian booster on both the Phantom and the Orca.

I fit it to my exploration AspE today, went from 56 LY to 61Ly, mass manager experimental... man do i have heating issues when jumping now though XD

Granted i do fit a guardian pp and pd.

Why was your FSD offline?
If your FSD was already online then in your scenario it would not make any diff if you had an off the shelf class D, A or this new double engineered FSD.
The time to charge and jump is exactly the same.

That'll do it. I think applying LE/TS to powerplant will be almost mandatory with this FSD. Further testing required...

1. Why was your FSD offline?

1. Was not offline: had A rated, engineered LR with mass manager experimental installed and online - every attempt to enter SC ended in hard crash/reboot.
2. But it did; multiple times; I could not get into super cruise at all with both CG FSD and Guardian FSD Booster installed, only a continuous tunnel graphic, until timed out and got an orange sidewinder error msg. Trouble ticket submitted, but rather sure it will never be addressed.
3. Don't doubt your math, never tried to time the FSD jump cycle; just seemed to jump faster and the factor 17 disruption did not slow anything down, or so it seemed, again SWAG (scientific wild azz guess). I believe you either way, thanks.

Until I get a chance to re-install the Guardian FSD Booster with CG FSD won't know if there's a valid conflict, but there was an issue two days last week with both installed I could not use my Python, as it would not jump either into SC or to another system.

As far as exploration goes, all I care about is absolute minimum mass, for THE greatest jump range theoretically possible. Fuel scoops take 0 mass, and the one for Diamondback Explorer is "Good Enough". Anything else we can bring down would help with that.

Okay, so guess it is something else; connection error today after a rather long attempt to jump to SC. Was working fine Sat, but not so much today. Surmise as well, the Guardian FSD Booster has nothing to do with this issue. Oh well, rebooting and hope for the best. Nope, two attempt to enter SC, reboot, same, reboot went from open to solo, now I can get into SC. Crazy.

How busy was the system you were in in open?

I always have more trouble in systems with more players in, or locations that are busy with stuff to interact with like a shard site.

I was alone, in open, 3rd reboot I went Solo. I've learned to stay close to my FC so if I don't get into SC I can always fly back and get into another ship. Still working to isolate variables. I have a trouble ticket submitted and am updating it with info. Really don't expect FDev to ever respond - actually never have had a ticket responded to.

Is there any other blueprint?
That's what I run, g5 maxed, and you certainly notice the diff in heat build up when scooping and jumping with this new double engineered FSD.

I run Armored, then go Thermal/Stripped/Monstered depending on needs.

More HP in case gankers are around.
More power generation.
Better heat management.

It's only down side is more mass, but I find that worth the trade.

My only bugbear with this CG, is that it was actually finished before I even got chance to take part. I literally got in from work, logged on to do some deliveries and just as I did so, it completed.

And now I won't be able to get that item ever.

Annoyed isn't a strong enough word.

I found out about this CG just a couple of days ago, and I gotta admit I am really bummed out.

Especially because of this: I usually play Elite over a period of about a month, with lulls of a couple of months give or take. Turns out I started my current session... one day before the end of the CG :/

I was in Colonia at the time, on my way to unlock Etienne - since my overarching goal for the past ~year and a half was to tune up my explorer/taxi DBX (my favorite ship) to the configuration I wanted.

So yeah, you can imagine how I would feel after finding out I missed a superior (for my use case), and ultimately relatively easily obtainable FSD by a hair's breadth after all this time spent gathering materials and unlocking engineers.

I'm sure I'm not the only one feeling like this, so I really hope that FDev makes this module available in another CG or preferably in some other permanent way - do y'all think they'll do it?

From what I have read I don't think they are likely to make them available permanently, but they might provide them as a reward again in the future but probably not soon if they do it at all.

Let's hope it's sooner rather than later... gotta say that I really don't like this idea of items that are both time-limited and exclusive.
