Bill of Defiance
With a teary eye, Mayor Dansa Poosy watched from the rear window of his personal shuttle. His planet, a failed colonisation project, disappeared into the distant darkness .

He had been the first human to set foot on the new world, and today he had been the last. He slammed his fists into the ships console. How could the bureucracy take away the homes of 3,000 hard working families.

"Financially unviable?". He knew his career was over but he gained a kind warmth thinking about his last act of defiance.

Against explicit orders, he had left the city lights on.

Left in the dark

"We've been stranded on this forsaken backwater for weeks." the gunner grumbled, staring out of the cabin window at the lurid lights of Sailor Town. "If they can't source a replacement power plant for an Anaconda, how do they keep all that Neon glowing?”
“You might just be onto something, Beams.” the engineer replied. “I wonder…. I've heard of frontier settlements running off the systems of old settler ships..."
“Now you’re talking!” the gunner grinned savagely.
“Round up the lads, I’ll go and warm up the salvage truck.”


Later that night, a battered Anaconda lifted from a strangely dark spaceport.

The reason I fired up the poll early last week was to try to get as many people voting as possible. Now that all the slots are filled I'll put out this little Drabble that may have gotten me negative votes if it had been entered in the contest...

It Would Have Never Happened in an Aston Martin
The Fer-de-Lance descended down towards the garish neon spectacle. The glare of the city was blinding, making it difficult to perform a planetary landing.

The clone of Sean Connery switched on the lights of his spaceship. It hardly made any difference. (Can anyone guess the ending of Drabble?)

It wasn't a bad accident. The ship lay crumpled in a field near the tree it had hit. Police skimmers were already on the scene with flashing lights.

The clone was angry at himself for the mistake. The policeman frowned. "Mr Connery, did you say the accident was caused by 'city lights'?"

Well if this is the way it's now going to be (20 drabbles in lickety split) why not go straight to poll, once final edits are done of course. That'd even give us time to push them out into the ether, e.g. I'm might tweet my favourites snippets with links to their respective drabble to see if we can pull in voters and it'd be better if I linked to the poll thread rather than the creation one.

Could the early poll also give us time to ask any kind devs/mods/drabblers/authors to submit a reading to you? Those that can't be online to do a live reading that is.

You should keep the live drabble time slot that you've established on Fridays (or tell Kerrash to push back and give you the primetime) as then you are perfectly placed to broadcast in the middle of voting. It also helps you keep continuity. You'll have a couple of days voting already done to present in show, with a couple more to go and hopefully can establish a regular audience of reprobates, err I mean viewers.

Meanwhile punters, and those who've been unlucky or too slow and have missed out on entering can put in drabbles for fun and we can celebrate their literary genius or indeed sharply honed wit.

Finally, Mr 'Kow sir, don't forget to do your vocal warm up before beginning the drabblecast

THE LIGHTS OF LONDON

Beneath the shuttle, the lights of London disapear rapidly through the thinning cloud. In the dark between those lights, Commander Bell's father lays newly entombed. Bell's heart lightens as the lights of heaven above begin to appear; there grandeur seems to silence all human concerns. A particular star he can rapidly identify; A sprawling anarchy thrives on a cold rock orbiting that star, breeding pirates like flies . He will return there soon. In the light of stars, white, blue, orange, yellow, and red, he has send many to a fiery grave without a thought, and he will send many more.

Ive edited me drabble. Should be 100.
