The list of unadulterated joy and a memorial to the brave drabblers who have emptied their insanity onto the forum that it the wondrous and stunning list of drabbley goodness has been updated to reflect the latest poll that is "City Lights"

Bit late to the party, but what the heck eh? First ever Drabble, first ever attempt at writing to be honest, so here goes.
Extinguished
From low orbit, the city lights below spread out like a Halain Night Spider’s fluorescent web. The view was so clear, almost as if the clouds themselves had been forbidden to attend that night. It was easy to imagine the city below as a living, breathing thing, and to forget that the sprawling Metropolis beneath was home to over 700 million people.
It was so beautiful.
It almost made him regret pushing the button.
The city flared once, its light burning brighter than the sun it orbited around for a few, brief seconds and then the lights went out.
Forever.
Extinguished

Ok so I'm too late again this week, but I've got something.

All this used to be fields.

When I first left my home planet two decades ago, it was a small colony with a population in the low thousands, struggling to survive. Now look at it. Busy starports serve bustling cities and the population has grown to nearly a billion. All because of a plant. We used to think of it as a weed. Spent years trying to clear it from our land. The colony was on the verge of failure when we found the secret. We could extract a powerful narcotic from the plant. All those city lights you see are paid for by the plant.

Man, I missed the bright City Lights.
First trip back to Hon-Yan City in years, and I knew where my first stop would be – A visit to the Fish Sauce Shop down the Batok, purveyors of the finest Sushi outside the Neo-Japan sector. I’d also arranged to meet up with my old pal Hiccup, so called after hiccupping for 7 days straight in the Academy when we were just noobs.
As usual he was late, so I stood on the steps of Burgess’s Fish Sauce Shop, mimicking him hiccupping and welcoming him in.
Sometimes it’s just good to be home.
