If cleonymus added those two words in the correct order, I'd be willing to turn a blind eye to a drabble with one extra word this week.....

Crawling Home

Jan glanced wearily at the clock. Eighteen days and five hours since the incident. She left the controls and opened the cockpit door, letting in strange noises from the malfunctioning frameshift drive.

At the tiny galley she grabbed a coffee bulb and cranked its temperature right up.

"Show some signs of life! Your watch started half an hour ago!"

Dan continued to sleep like a dead man.

Jan squirted a jet of scalding coffee at an exposed foot.

A yelp, a jerk, the twang of 0g sleeping restraints

Jan grinned and handed the coffee bulb to her bleary eyed copilot.

Our Drabble contest is democratic; one person, three votes. It's a nice simple system which is why it's lasted this long. But I do want to run a little experiment.. the Drabble contest as a meritocracy. The best Drabble wins without the baggage of who wrote it. Please submit your Drabble to me by Private Message, and when I get enough of them together I'll open a polling thread to decide which is best. The topic is Democracy

This is not a replacement for the main Abraka Drabble contest. It's for new players who don't want to be pushed out into the limelight. And it's for the addicted players who can't wait a whole week for the next topic to write about.

Nice idea, Frank, but I can't see many fish biting at this bait.

Unless, of course, somebody creates another toilet roll crown...

... Oh, alright, I'll think about having a go :D

Part Three - All information has a price.

Her knife once again slid under the skin of Hutton Orbital’s Commander.

“Please, stop, I don’t know where they went” he pleaded.

“Commander, I have no time for this. Tell me where the ship is headed and I will bring an end to this.”

“Please” he sobbed.

She slid her already bloodied fingers into the gap in his skin, gripped the flesh firmly, and pulled down sharply, ripping another strip of skin from his chest.

He gave a final agonised scream before his weakened heart finally gave in.

She felt for a pulse. No signs of life.

“So, who’s next?”

Fixed it for you. :D

Lost and Found

Both engines sounded right this time, red lights started turning green as the window cleared. The frozen hulk was becoming a ship again.

Nodding as she left the pilot's seat, the suited figure made her way over to the crying coming from the airlock. His restraints were still secure.

She made the call.

"Yes, sir. The ship is salvageable and cargo intact, just where our information said it would be. Should have her underway in an hour or so."

The figure paused, listening.

"That's correct, sir. No sign of the pilot." She cycled the airlock and got back to work.

Pristine Reserves... But of What?

They'd named it the Valley of Death as first ship then crew succumbed to the horrors within its depths.

"Anything?", Fillia asked anxiously as Gerauld scanned deep between the rocks. "Shhh" he replied, "there's definitely more than rocks".

Fans swirled dust about their plastboots as the jury rigged device fought to stay cool. Once a simple prospector drone, Lil' Bot was now so much more after Gerauld's ingenuous crafting.

Sounds echoed, metal on rock. "It's coming!" screamed Fillia.

As something leapt out Lil' Bot reacted.

Some time later the survivors of Frank's Claim stood embraced, metallic shards floating around them.

It's too prdictable with how people vote ... and then they complain if someone makes it a bit more interesting when the opportunity arises.
<clip>

Speaking for myself and my voting practices.. I vote for whichever Drabbles I like the most. Isn't that is what we are supposed to do?

If I've never voted for someone it's only due to them not being one of my favorites (that week... the Drabble, not the person!) :)

This contest will now definitely happen. There are actual Drabblers who have submitted actual Drabbles to this contest. This is a big thank you to the people who have PMed me. It might take a while to get together enough stories for the competition, certainly no earlier than Friday as I hope to persuade Psykokow to give me a shout out on his show.
