Creatures Great and Small

The creatures lived in the rock, in their burrow. They emerged only at night due to the star's UV rays.

The ground jolted once, twice. Then again and again. It had a rhythmic beat to it that lasted several minutes, then stopped.

Huddled together, scared, they eventually took courage and peeked out into a semi-darkness.

"Where are weeessss? Our gardennnn is lossst," said one.

The other crawled out and looked around. The dirt had been replaced with black metal that stretched as far as he could see. He looked up, and there sat a creature, a thousand times their size.

Drabbles are 100 words, should be clean (so Frank's ears don't bleed), set loosely in the Elite universe, and if you have trouble counting, use our standard word count benchmark here: www.wordcounter.net

Drabble entries will close today at 10pm BST! We have four (4) slots remaining! Don't be shy! Post up one!

Ok heres a question for all the Friday nighters. Does the drabble show influence your voting? Or like me, does it just make you want to vomit in your eyes and ears?

It doesn't always influence my vote, but it does occasionally after an aural treat.

Also, secondly, "No, it is't a problem, especially since I stopped wearing a full-face helmet during the show."

There's the concept in gaming of the level playing field. What Psykokow's show does is it adds bumps to the field, then it digs a hole in the field and drops DocStone into it. And I'm not saying that like it's a bad thing.

The show allows me to concentrate on the Drabbles, and having them read out can sometimes bring out a nuance I missed when I read it by myself. Kow always highlights new entrants to the game as well, and always gives them a fair reading instead of the assassinations he gives the old players he knows are too hooked on the game to give up now. Who says a level playing field is always a good thing?

Talking about about level playing field Drabble contests... we now have the plug <cough> The anonymous Drabble contest is going great guns. We have had more entries. If you want a completely fair test of your writing abilities then Private Message me your Drabble on the topic of "Democracy". I'll hold an extra Drabble poll above and beyond the normal poll sometime next week, the time will depend on how fast entries come flooding in.

You've got plenty of time to take part, and saying there are plenty of spaces left would be a bit of an understatement. Please PM me with your 100-word masterpiece.

For me the show is a celebration of life and a chance to air each drabble. Some weeks I don't have a lot of free time and the show helps me get an inkling of which drabbles I like. However, how I vote is always the same, I read the little blighters, tick the ones that stand out for me as good stories and then thrash around frantically to get that number down to my favourite three. :D

Take yer life and stick it up ya..........

David: and you say you found him like this inside the cargo bay?...was that with or without the Mcstiffy?

Finn: He was quite stiff when we found him..But the McThargoids is his own...

David: well whatever convinced him you could drink it through that hole.

Jack: All tha' kids are doing it

David: And this? Crumbs? Meat? Trumbles? Signs of Loaf right in there.

Finn: Maybe smuggling and all that?... he's coming around...

Richard:....<coming around> You wouldn't dare stick that McStiffy up my rear Jack...

Jack: Fine it was me but I swear the Trumble isn't mine....

I'd say that the Friday night readings have never put me off a drabble, but occasionally they bring an existing drabble to life so it gets my vote, usually if it's funny.

That said I sometimes vote before listening to the drabble show so it doesn't always get a chance to influence me with Psykokow's Siren-like articulation.

I don't really read the drabbles until during the show, and that is when I gauge them. Then, at the end of the show I re-read them and cast my votes, taking into account how they felt being read out, and just by reading. The majority of the time I end up voting for a drabble that if I had only read it I would never have considered.

I do think it is unfair that my drabbles and participation are generally ignored, abused and treated with utmost disdain, but then I realise you are all a word that rhymes with stunts and I reflect upon the fact that despite your best efforts I still win the bloody thing now and again, so get it right up yees! :D

Vote for Me - because the rest are all rhyming slang......

Just an alert as I had forgotten about this "thing" today. The drabble poll may be up an hour or two late as I'll be attending CMDRs Spike and Evenstar's "Permission Granted" CQC Training and even streaming on my own Twitch Channel.

On another note, Winnard's entry makes 17. There are 3 more slots available. And not only does the winner get to choose next week's topic, but also gets to wear this....

Now, if that doesn't properly motivate people, I don't know what will!

Shut your face and get back in your hole.

I can run the poll tonight if you want. I'll do it at around 11:00 BST. Just say the word.

If anyone's interested in how my secret Drabble contest's going... so far we've got 5 players, 6 if you include me. If you want to take part just PM me your Drabble. The topic is "Democracy"

Thanks for posting the poll Erik. p.s. what happened to the drabble crown? It was considerably less dishevelled and stained when I last won. Admittedly that was quite some time ago so it may have gone the way of the Curly Wurly, which is to say much nicer in memory.

Oh and very well done everybody, I've read through the drabbles and I'm mightily impressed as the standard is extremely high this week. Not so much for Mr Winnie though ;)

Read the sentence before the Crown pic in the poll thread. I think it explains its appearance. :)
