The signal from the asteroid below was identical to the recording he'd obtained.
It had to be Thargoid, that old pirate was right!

Landing close to the source, the strange remains of a derelict structure
beckoned to him through the cockpit glass.
How long had it waited undisturbed? What secrets lay within?

Checking his helmet, he ran down the ship's ramp, eager to see what
awaited.

He never felt the landmine. The blast travelled faster than nerves could fire.

"Arr, you sends out invitations, people come to you.
Now go get the tools, t'is your turn to 'otwire the ship."

I'd just come over here to say to people that I'll be putting up the poll in an hour's time and to get their Drabbles in quick if they still haven't done so...

There's no longer any need to use an image hosting site. Just click the "From Computer" box when inserting the image. I am surprised there's no image manipulation tools. I try to crop my Drabble Banners to around 800 × 300 to keep them looking banner-y

I would normally do as alien described, I was hoping for something simpler as the image is hosted on the forum and appears a reasonable size earlier in this thread.

Oh well, I'll edit it later

The Invitation

“Professor… Come Quick, Subject Bravo … well ... come see for yourself”, The professor bounced down the corridor. The coriolis spin was only 0.3g so close to the centre of the station, but the lab’s location was convenient, close to his ship, and the repair bay. Lately he spent as much time in the the repair bay as in the lab. As Ishmael neared the lab he could hear a constant chittering, his subject, usually docile until in the vacuum of space was anything but. “Run it through the translator!” staring at the screen, his face drained of colour... “They’re coming”

I'm building a time machine as you read this. The laws of causality be damned! This Drabble is so brilliant it's worth risking the end of the universe just so we can enter it in this week's Drabble contest.
