I think there's a missed opportunity by the devs to make the NPC messages more...interesting as well as affect NPC ship behavior with witty comebacks. The commander has to type the phrases exactly or have the requisite item
Example: Pilot carrying biowaste.
NPC Pirate: Give me 1t of your biowaste or I will blow you out of space in 15 seconds!
You: You want to die for biowaste?
NPC Pirate: Um...on second thought... ceases scan and flies away
Example: random pirate attack.
NPC Pirate: I'm gonna boil you up!
You: Your mother would be ashamed of you.
NPC Pirate: (If your combat rank is above Expert) YOU KILLED MY MOTHER YOU EVIL PUNK! (If your combat rank is below Expert) goes non-hostile and flies slowly away What have I done with my life...
Example: pirate successfully interdicts your ship
NPC Pirate: All that tasty cargo belongs to me now!
You: You don't have a cargo rack!
NPC Pirate: Oh, wait? Whoops. (50% chance) Turns non-hostile and flies away (50% chance) Turns non-hostile and flies away for 10 seconds Hey wait! You tricked me! turns hostile again
Example; traveling in a holiday state system.
NPC Groom on Wedding Barge: I don't know if I can go through with it.
You: (Route 1) Then why'd you propose, you moron?
You: (Route 2) Get to an escape pod. I'll take you somewhere else.
NPC Groom: (Route 1) I've made a terrible mistake! She brushes her teeth so loudly it melts my brain! You gotta help me, man! Mission offer: 1 million credits for 1t of Onionhead Gamma
You dock with the wedding barge and the goods transfer over and you get paid.
NPC Groom: (Route 2) Give me one minute to slip past her father's goons. I'll pay 10,000 credits to take me anywhere but here. Mission offer appears in chat with coordinates
When you get to the wedding barge, an occupied escape pod is floating nearby.
NPC on wedding barge: Come celebrate this momentous occasion with us!
You: (Route 1) I have {anything from the legal drugs list in your cargo rack}
NPC on wedding barge: Get here right now! Sends coordinates to you
You fly to the wedding barge and dock with it
The screen goes black as it does after a ship explodes. Instead of the usual death message, this message appears: You and the partiers of the wedding barge died from partying too hard. -10,000 credits.
You: (Route 2) I have slaves!
NPC on wedding barge: What kind of sick freak do you think we are?! Get off this line!
You: (Route 3) I have Guardian Urn/Mysterious Idol/Thargoid Hydra Tissue Samples
NPC on wedding barge: OMG this party just got lit! Come on over! Sends coordinates to you
You fly to the wedding barge and dock with it
The screen goes black as it does after a ship explodes. Instead of the usual death message, this message appears: Your ship and the barge exploded. Seriously, what the f*** did you do??? Did you really think snorting the ashes of a dead alien up your nose would end well??? -40,000 credits.
You: (Route 4) I have condoms/birth control!
NPC on wedding barge: Our Jonney on the spot! Sends coordinates to you
You fly to the wedding barge and dock with it.
The screen goes black as it does after a ship explodes. Instead of the death message, 5 large heart symbols appear and the game returns to the main menu. When you restart the game, your ship is in space, spinning from right to left. If you have cockpit add-ons, a sock or briefs or a garter will hang from them. If you're 1% away from a rank, you will get an automatic rank up.
NPC Space Station controller: If you left station an then requested docking before 1 minute has passed. Did you forget your limpets, commander? If you did this twice in the past hour You're new at this, aren't you?
FDevs- this is a great chance to add dynamism to NPC reactions, provided players can type the phrases fast enough.
