Ships Advice on engineering my Chieftain

How many systems do I have to visit to get HGE's? I've been to several with 2 bil pop and when I scan nav beacon, no HGE's

EDIT Ive now been to 10 different boom systems and got 1 HGE with a 10 min timer. LOL i give up
Just one, find the one with the longest timer (25/30 minutes) get there farm, exit the game totally (not just logoff/login like at Jameson's Crash) launch the game again, get to SC and the same HGE will spawn on your back, make a 180° get there again rinse and repeat until the timer will end,you will be able to fill up on G4/5 mats easily.Do this for all the different system staes I listed above. The quickest/easiest one is in the Imperial systems, find one near Achenar and do this, you'll fill up with Imperial Shieldings grade V.

So I've been locating some HGE's but when I try completely relogging I come back and jump to sc there are no more hge signals

Choose only the longest timer ones, from 25 to 30 minutes, you probably got one with a few minutes left. Also when you do this set the Filter on your Galaxy Tab on Signal Sources only, the one you farmed will be there just behind your ship. The timer is the key.Don't just relog, exit the game and then launch it again.

Ive done exactly as suggested but every time I relog, I lose the emission signals. I have to go back to the nav beacon and rescan. Then HGEs come up again.

Either way I filled up on imperial shielding and got a good bit of some others. Now im at jameson site. thx for all the help. Its a long road.

Below are my go to's for HGEs, I am successfull 60% of the time.

Imperial Shielding: Best for trading because not contaminated by grade 4 mats.
Tchernobog
Hruntia

Core Dynamics Composites and Proprietary Composites
Wolf 562

I save stupid multi-taskable stuff to do when I do them like paperwork or going through emails. Use collector limpets. When the last mat is scooped immediately go back to desktop then login. When in game immediately go to nav panel and find nearest unidentified signal source and charge up fsd. When the count 4321 begins immediately throttle down so that your distance from the HGE USS is shorter.

Crashed Anaconda site: Raw materials in Bubble: Antimony, Tellurium, Ruthenium, Zirconium, Tungsten
Koli Discii 6 A (the planet with Gerlache Base)

It's 95,000 ls from main star, BUT... Upon being within 1000 ls of the planet the crashed ship site appears on the nav panel - no futzing with latitude and longitude. Also the site is pretty flat so SRV driving is less nauseating. I do the dishes and housework during the 13 or so minute supercruise. Crystal shard sites are better but I can't be arsed to do that much jumping because I am jumping challenged. :)

Selenium is Prthi 2A? can't remember exactly which planet. Have to use SRV
Molybdenum and others. Trus Madi, Todd the Blaster's planet has pretty good drops, too. Also SRV

BTW, for the Palin Unlock
It requires being 5000 ly from the Bubble. Do that unlock by hitching a ride to Colonia or elsewhere far away on a Fleet Carrier in a stock sidewinder. Play another game until 5000 ly away then self destruct and select the choice that returns you to the Bubble.

Below is the Fleet Carrier Discord which often posts rides to exotic places in the Milky Way.

Where I learned to gather mats, though for manufactured, HGE are the most straight forward, as mentioned, then just trade down.

My PvE Chieftain. Hull Tank, decent resistance shields. Keep the pulse turret on the beams group. It'll grab the NPCs attention, if at distance. Strip the shields with the beams as you close. Get really close and unload. Ammo can be problematic for long term combat, but she's great against all size PvE hulls and a true joy to fly.

That looks cool. Damn there are so many options. Could anyone tell me which power distributor upgrade and exp to get? I see several have charge enhanced. I was gonna go weapons focused but I really dont know what im doin. Heres current build.

Charge enhanced + super conduits is typically the default PD blueprint for combat ships, here's a recent Chieftain build I've been using https://s.orbis.zone/a_9h
TBH I'd swap the KWH (and point defence) for more shield booster(s) so you can increase the resistances and significantly improve shielding performance,

Ok but how do I find bounty targets? I cant take on 3 federal security ships all attacking me.

For combat ships, Charged Enhanced Super Conduits is meta for Power Distributors. I have tried others, and they simply do not work because of the consistent extreme need, for EITHER weps, sys, OR thrusters in every fight.

If you were to race, an engine focussed might be optimal under certain circumstances.

[EDIT] If your end goal is PvP, pip management is key. PvP specific ship builds, which are basically OP PvE builds, will be vastly less effective without active pip management. In PvE, one can get away with less pip management, but you will not be flying your ship to its fullest potential.

He will need the point defence if he is fighting NPCs and the probability of his shields going down is high. NPCs frequently spam missiles after shields break. Missiles often damage weapons beyond repair.

A highly experienced pilot does not need point defense unless they get aggro'd by more than say five NPCS at once, especially if using a bi weave.

I can easily steam roll a low intensity CZ in my fdl without losing a ring, so I never use point defense or even chaff. But that is after thousands of hours in a fdl. If I were starting, PDT and chaff would be in every combat build I own.

I just can't get myself to like the FDL, I have built one recently and fully engineered it, but there is something very odd about the way it flies, couldn't wrap my head around it so far. I am seriously tempted to just strip it and put the relevant modules into a new chieftain, as my other one has been refit for AX combat. The Chieftain flies extremely nice, compared to the FDL, at least in my limited experience.
What would be your take on this?

Do what makes you have the most fun. :) If you love the Chieftain fly it!

However, if you ever do decide to do organized PvP, which is wing fighting in asteroid fields, a well flown meta fdl flown fa off will best serve your team due to the overpowered stats of the fdl. Unfortunately, combat ship balance in this game is truly regrettable.

For those who may not know, a "meta fdl" build usually consists of a prismatic shield generator and plasma accelerators and rail guns as primary weapons. Plasma accelerators are OP because of a very generous 2km damage fall off combined with very high absolute damage. Rail guns are some of the most devastating hitscan weapons, which means you cannot dodge them. Rail guns and PAs are fixed, which means chaff is useless.

Plasma Accelerators for many people, like myself, are very challenging to use. The PA reticle can be deceiving. I was deeply frustrated trying to use them, but after a year, I am finally getting better. Moral of the story don't give up (but work on range control, the closer you are to your target, the easier the PA shot) :)

I know, thats why I built it. I mean, who doesnt want to have the OP meta boat at his hands. 😉 It is a very deadly ship, even in my hands (vs NPC only of course) , but it has a tendency to completely stall its momentum in turns. And that is driving me nuts! 😄

I am going to guess you are stalling because you do not have enough pips in engines. 2 4 0 and 0 4 2 are my most used pip distributions for the fdl. Actually for most pvpers in fdls, too. FDLs love and devour engine pips.

420 when close to opponent
024 after firing

then back to 042 and 240

Also notice if you are at max speed or throttle, at those settings you are probably more likely to stall. I remember reading something about that, I will have to do some digging.

I don't know what to add, this method works perfectly tried just this morning you probably do something wrong in the porcess, what platform are you on? If you're on PS4 i could show you how.
