Well, if the telescope wasn't tracking then the view would have rotated by 360 * 1/19.7 degrees; since you see no rotation then it's tracking, presumably a view that has significance! I suggest the next step is to identify that star field & the nebula. You should be able to get an idea by comparing the telescope view against the galmap; I had a lot of difficulty doing this when trying to locate asterism stars in my previous searches for the Rift mystery but if you rotate the galmap around until it matches roughly you can then "move" into it to find the nebula & good candidates for the stars. By selecting a star in the galmap & then switching back to normal cockpit view you'll see if it's likely to be correct

I did pop on the name of the likely nebula seen if it helps...will see if i can find it.

Edit: Traikaae aa-a h2 to the left is one of the dark nebs in the picture you took....does match

He talks about it being a "blue ball in the sky", so it must be a blue star close by then?

EDIT: perusing the gal map, COL 285 SECTOR HM-V D2-100 is a blue-white star and only a few light years away from the base...

OR

HIP 12656 is a close by blue supergiant!!!

HIP 12656 caught my eye on the way in - going to do a survey around the base when I get back online (be nice if they left a clue ) and then head out to nearby likely systems.

Upon request, reporting the discovery of another surface installation, number #16.

Discovery made by CMDR NeighSieger, research in progress by CMDRs Astrix Swayer, Hansow and Kazahnn Drahnn.

The installation is situated: HIP 83237 3 B, -26,40 / 143,69.

Thank you very much!
Here is the story:

The system is Col 285 Sector UZ-O c6-9. (only system matching all three ranges)

I'm at the coordinates on B6 and found this :

Seems to be a camp from a colonization ship having missed its Earth-like target.

That was a very good find CMDRs, amazing effort everyone!

I'm almost sure there is a colonization ship waiting for us out there, in full shape or wrecks...
We should find the final destination then ;)

Nope, both systems are bust, nothing interesting in them.

Caine -Massey crates are also present in this base...they seem to pop up pretty much in interesting sites only...

A crashed colony ship with escape pods to rescue would make a helluva CG.

oh btw the base on planet 7 is edison escape - can't see anything out of the ordinary - but a very suggestive name in the circumstances.

FWIW, at least the system seems to be a great spot to push Fed rank - Edison Escape is your friend here:

13 of 17 missions are just data delivery ones, and they all go to Kidi (1 jump)

And, upon delivery, just look at this - 20+ Fed missions at at time!

Looks like they use a chemical rocket (launch and then cousre burn) with no indication of how long ago they left they could still be drifting their way through deep space (no fuel for any extra burns). has anyone tried moving out from the planet towards their target in SuperCruise, looking for UnknownSignalSources? they could of left 6 months ago and still be in system....

ON that note the recently found abandoned settlement is called "Orion's Folly", I'm guessing Orion is the guy's name.

The story titled "Missed Target".

As mentioned previously it's Col 285 Sector UZ-O C6-9 ( -87.1, -10.6 )

Can't help feeling it might be nice to catalogue these.

That's what I was thinking. He said years not hundreds which would indicate sublight system unless I am misreading? Seems odd as would need to be a fixed point..?

Just curious as it states they "missed" the destination, meaning they passed by it? also would the ship not be " Aimed at the planet they want to colonize. Just wondering if they may have had a telescope or something? hence seeing it in the sky may not mean with the naked Eye...

EDIT sorry im in work so cant see the systems you guys are visiting...:D

then he would still be in system....

yeah, we have no idea how long ago he left, he my be in a new system or so way out on the fringe of the current one.

Unless we find the blue ball they refer to.
