I wouldn't call it a coincidence, the notch to the right of that one is where the sun will set, and the one further the right is where the moon will set if viewed from the centre of the circle. I'm making a timelaspe vid of the sunrise right now and will post as soon as elite crashes.

Well it's pretty obvious it's deliberate :) In fact I was taking off when I noticed that the sun was starting to rise, and since I've seen my share of ancient aliens goofiness I thought, "I bet the sun lines up with something in these ruins." And lo and behold, it took only a couple of minutes to find. I'm going to see if anything else lines up while the sun is low over the horizon.

The Greek letters are data, you can find them in your inventory under the data tab (delete them when you run out of space, the description states that they are used by engineers, but they are not yet). These are secondary and we don't know if they do anything useful at present.

Ok, thank you. From everything I've seen they almost seem random, does that appear to be the case?

The cultural/historical/etc messages are the ones we are looking for - you should see them in the 'incoming messages area', though they don't always turn up. These messages are the ones we're tracking in the spreadsheets on the FP - you get 1 million CR for each new one (look on your mission tab). You can't get them all afaik (FAQ on first page)

Well, I received "unlocked" messages in the right-hand info box about categories (historical etc) but also instantly received "mission critical" messages from Ram Tah saying the combination didn't work, hence my question. I was expecting the unlock message to indicate success, but...

A few more screenshots of sunrise from the center of cluster A, this time inside the ship in case there's something to be spotted from this vantage.

Wait, so there are systems out deep in space that are randomly locked? If this is common knowledge, I am sorry, but that sounds more than suspect.

Has anyone who got hyperdicted tried to get to there? Not that I think that it makes a difference, but you never know...

Yes, a lot of COL 70, but I'm pretty sure I headed out that way in my early days playing Elite, I was heading for Barnard's loop, don't remember there being locked systems in my path.

Search for the missing ruins

from looking at the image below it could be that the where Group A is located is some kind of clock, i.e it shows us when the constellation of stars we are looking for is visible in the sky from our location, I'm fairly certain that the layout of the Artifacts is in someway a indication of the constellation we are looking for, and that the relics/beacons are the systems of interest. The beacon at Group A could represent us, the beacon by the pyramid at 180 degrees from Group A represents the Southern Pole star, mainly as the angle at which the Pyramid is at if driven at 180 degrees point you directly at the pole star. So I think the remaining beacons represent the position of the 2 remaining data locations

Also here is a vid of the sun rising and one of the polar region spinning above the Pyramid, both taken from the centre of Group A

Areas / regions of stars have been permit locked (i.e. You can't jump there) since the game was in beta. It's just a game mechanic. However I believe that Barnard's loop was once fully explorable, and now a lot of it is locked. It would seem that something is going to happen out there, but not until Fdev are ready for it.

Hopefully by that time they'll have rethought their approach to quality control, but I wouldn't hold you breath......

Just going to say this again. By definition, a monolith is a single stand alone thing.

Let me also put the following points forwards. The monolith network is for communication. This is a space-faring species. Why would their communication network consist of a bunch of things very close together? What would make sense is a series of of transmitters/receivers separated by large distance. Assuming each receiver/transmitter is distinct from everything surrounding it then it would constitute a monolith. As those monoliths are part of a communications network, then it would constitute a monolith network.

Also, why would any help and data be needed to map the obelisks and see they are arranged in geometric shapes? A single image of the site from above shows that. Zero data beyond a single photo would be required.

Not quite. A monolith is a single block of stone, but doesn't have to be by itself- Stonehenge is a set (correct collective noun? Actually it's probably 'henge') of monoliths. When you take a monolith & shape it to have a pointy top (e.g. Cleopatra's Needle) then it becomes an obelisk. ;)

Some CMRDs have mentioned that the "obelisks" and "monoliths" may be different structures. I argue that Ram Tah never mentions the word "obelisk" in the data we've found so far (please advise if I am wrong) so until it is stated otherwise we should assume that the "Monolith network" is the same thing as the obelisks at the ruins. This might be obvious to you all now, but I thought it might as well be stated.

I quote Ram Tah:

"With this data and the help of the galactic community we’ve partially mapped the monolith network, which formed the backbone of their communications technology, and discovered that they too are arranged in geometric patterns..."

Cheers o7

You are right, I'll stop sayin obelisk. There is no such thing. That is the name we gave. I'll call them monolith from now.

Ahhh - please stop spreading incorrect information.

The ancient structures are called "obelisks" - see Ram Tah's message below for proof and please stop calling them monoliths.

Here's a wild theory....

Its been discussed in depth that the site in general looks like a map.
We've found it too early rather than following the breadcrumbs that would have led us here.

What if when Fdev rearranged the site, they didn't so much 'rearrange' it but instead swapped it with another identical site elsewhere.
Would comparing the images we have of the before and after point us to noticable changes between the two that could then be used to look?

First discovery:

Current site:

What if the relics are a star pattern... 3 of the relics are in the same position on the map yet one moved... What if the site itself marks the position in the sky that the moon needs to be to see the star pattern?

There has to be some reason for the rearrangement, the common accepted answer is to point the 'map' at something else. If it is point at something else that means the original layout also points at something.

Well, if the layout is a map then swapping the old for another site's layout would just give us the map for how to find this place, but we already know where it is & need to find the other two sites. So that must be the reason for the layout changes-it's to indicate one or more of the other Guardian sites (remember Homeworld plus 3 arc ship destinations).

It is a good idea about the object layouts being meaningful, rather than the walls of the ruin, but can't imagine it's to do with straightforward star positions as that will be really difficult to match against a 400 million set of stars & suspicious of a constellation layout since they change as you move around the galaxy. Might be a set of notable skymarks such as neutron stars (like Voyager disc had pulsar locations & the angles between them to locate Sol)?

I like the idea of using sun/moon to indicate things, but I also recollect a recent post that showed California & Pleidaes nebulae & Andromeda galaxy forming a right angled triangle in the sky above the ruins. This seems suggestive since the Guardians were keen on geometry. I suspect California & Pleiades nebulae are the areas to search for more ruins (I have posted a suggestion many times that there is more to discover about Merope/Merope 5C since it is of great importance to the UAs/UPs).

I took all the relics to a different system that has an abandoned base on one of the planets. it has very odd information in the data points
(if interested look up hr 5991 1 b)
it did not do anything but I hope that some one else knows of a place that this idea might work at.

When and did this. Nothing there. There's reference to Cleaner Team 26, Doctor Lewis and Company Directive 3650. Without knowing more...anything more about this... can't do much here.

maybe it's just alien graffiti, something like humanes eunt domus

seriously, i've given up and will only come back if and when FDev has said it's now bug-free.

Hold your horses guys. We just got a conformation from FD that the site is indeed bugged:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...-(Solo-Mode)?p=5018790&viewfull=1#post5018790

This is so bad, people are breaking their heads over this puzzle...and FD left us with a bugged puzzle.... so bad.

It's a bit bugged, but it can be worked around. Having several commanders your instance, will make all the data packages available, it seems.

I think we have found all the packages that are at this site.

If we find other sites, they will have the same bug. Until the bug is patched, be prepared to team up if you want to get all packages.

Nice shots.

Please remember that the F-Sun's rising and setting points will slowly change as the Y-dwarf orbits the F.

The moon has fixed rising and setting points.

The Y-dwarf changes it's rise/sett points quite quickly, as the ruin planet orbits it(in about a week).
