I just checked it out, very odd that the sculpted Asia temperate map is a different map to the flat one. Not even the same grass colour.Ah ok, Europe temperate is new, Asia temperate is the old one. I'll continue my journey on taking pics of the new maps
Would be nice if they would release a Editor for this. Even better if they would include some Buildings that can be placed in the Background. It would need to be Workshop compatible though so the Biome Skirts can be shared in a easy Way and to make Blueprints that use the Biome Skirts usable by other PlayersI think it'd be cool if Frontier could let us make custom skirts with custom borders (i.e. not just the same old square). I say this because
1. I can't build a zoo out in the middle of nowhere without something already there. Even some roads would help a lot.
2. It would allow the fandom to really express themselves and make whatever they want or need. For example, if I'm making a zoo out in rural America or in the urban heart of Japan, I can make that happen.
Edit: I made a thread about it

Custom made map skirts
While I deeply appreciate the new feature of map skirts, I still feel like the maps being out in the middle of nowhere leaves a lot to be inspired in terms of inspiration. I prefer to have the backdrop of a city or suburb before I start building. Thus, I ask that Frontier allow its players to...forums.frontier.co.uk
I also got confirmation from Reddit that many others are suffering the exact same issue. There are two possible problemsI just checked it out, very odd that the sculpted Asia temperate map is a different map to the flat one. Not even the same grass colour.
We need two Dropdown Menus for those. One for the Biome Skirts and the already existing one for Terrain OptionsI also got confirmation from Reddit that many others are suffering the exact same issue. There are two possible problems
- Frontier completely forget about sculputed maps and reverts to the old ones because there is no new skirt for these set of maps
- This is a bug where frontier did support sculputed maps and the biome skirts are not being applied for whatever reason
Totally agree. When I first read it and the way they announced it I actually thought that's what this was about and then all we get is the same old maps with fixed skirts, in the middle of nowhere and no way to change that.I can’t stress enough how much the ability to select our own choice of biome skirt would add to the game. It would improve things enormously.
Funnily enough the old Taiga map was great for subtle mountain views. It was just the trees and terrain paints that ruin the whole European feelI find this view really useful, a nice temperate map with an attractive view of mountains in the distance. It works fir rural wildlife parks but you could also do a plausible Central European (for example) town zoo.

But then you have this. It’s beautifully done but it’s too much, too overwhelming and overpowering and only suitable for rural zoos in mountainous areas which really, really limits the utility and potential of this map. At the moment I’m just not sure what to do with it despite the fact that I’d really like a temperate Alpine map. Just not too Alpine.

I think the new temperate mountains - in the distance - are lovely, nicer than the taiga. I never used the taiga maps because I really dislike the shade of grass.Funnily enough the old Taiga map was great for subtle mountain views. One of the weirdest Things is that there are no Roads. How are the Guests supposed to get there? Of course you can build a Road yourself outside of your Zoo but only until it reaches the End of the buildable Area. Natural Areas are nice but if there aren't even Roads it's too natural for a ZooFor real, a HUGE problem with many of these maps is that the natural theming isn't subtle/blended in enough to the point where the plot you're given looks hella jarring
Exactly. Some roads and houses would make the area feel so much more aliveOne of the weirdest Things is that there are no Roads. How are the Guests supposed to get there? A Toggle for different Infrastructure would be nice so we can customize our Maps more. For ExampleExactly. Some roads and houses would make the area feel so much more alive
Especially a parking lot would be amazing.
Exactly. Some civilization around the zoo would make it feel so much more naturalA Toggle for different Infrastructure would be nice so we can customize our Maps more. For Example
-big City (maybe in different Building Styles) with the Option to toggle in/off the following Options: City North, City West, City East, City South and it should be made in such a Way that those Options can also be combined
-Village/Town (with the same Options as the City)
-Road (with the same Options as the two above)
I think though a Parking Lot should be built by the Player because it belongs to the Zoo itself
Yeah totally agree. I'm not a a real tech savvy person, but even with that, I cannot imagine that it would be that difficult to free up any skirt for any biome/location. Compared to some of the things the game does, it would be a really small tweak I'd think.Ok, so, the new skirts all look great. But, I'm hoping that we get the option to choose which ones we want. Because, I'm trying to build a temperate NA zoo, but the skirt has, like, rivers and stuff, which is fine, but the theme I actually need is rural farmland and woods, because it's set in the Piney Woods area.
So, devs, if/when you read this, when y'all add the farm skirt back in via a patch, could y'all consider adding an option to choose whichever backgrounds we want (according to the biome, of course); if it's too much trouble for a little patch, then in the next update
I actually don’t like the Asian short temperate grass. It looks like grass that’s been under snow all winter.
has this Grass while Japan, Korea and (southern?) China has the normal temperate Grass
My guess is the Greener Version of the Grass would be better for most of China, Japan and Korea, with their Northern Areas being better off with the second Type.
They still have normal green grass. Not that I'm against the grass discussion here, but I want to add that, after checking averages I can see winters in Seoul are slightly colder than Stockholm.
