All pirates are griefers!

I'm talking about these NPC pirates. Remember the good ol' days when an NPC would pull you over and give you n seconds to drop x amount of cargo? Not any more! Every single time I get pulled over by a pirate (who comments on my "juicy cargo"), it's instant smack, quack, give the duck a wack! I submit to the interdiction and come to a complete stop, no weapons, no boost, no FSD, and yet these griefer NPCs immediately open fire giving me lines like "So you choose death!" (no I didn't) and "Hahahahaha!" just like a PvP griefer. The only thing they are missing is the purple hair! Heck, they even have griefer weapons - frag cannons almost every time...

It's bad enough we have players who are ruining legitimate piracy, but now the NPCs are giving us honorable pirates a bad name as well! Obviously this must be a bug, as it didn't use to be this way, but I do not like it one bit. Fix this, Frontier!

On the bright side, all cops are now magical and show up INSTANTLY when I'm attacked, so I guess that's something...

Yea I was procuring some wine for a mission earlier and the hatchbreaker took 7 seconds to crack the T-6 and my radar lit up with the fuzz and the shields on my DBX went down in seconds so I had to bolt. I didn't even have time to scoop any goods up. When I found my target they were already 97000 ls away🤨

It's is from the cause and effect of lazy cmdr's selling their ship and not keeping the engineered mods. All those engineered mods that stay with the ships when traded or sold give the NPC's the opportunity to have in some cases, better builds and load-outs then we do.

Only happens to me when I carry mission cargo. Not that they could scratch my shields...
I've been running Tritium. Lots and lots of Tritium.... Every interdiction has been the same story. Oh, and my shields are very scratchable.

Did FDev experiment with AI in game design and let the AI learn from the players?
If you start encountering 5-engineered Fer-de-Lances with stacked shield boosters that cry 'OMG CHEAT' and combat log when they are reduced to one shield ring, we'll know for sure. Before that, it's a maybe
NPC piracy should be a stepping stone to PvP pirating, which it absolutely isn't.
More than that, NPC piracy should be worthwhile in itself! (but high risk... and as a general rule, I think that crime should not pay out good if you pay off your bounty)

Did you break any of the Pirate NPC rules?
  • moved Ship >1000m from Interdiction drop-in point
  • charged your FSD
  • opened fire on NPC
  • did not comply with given NPC demands

1st one is super easy to miss. Some big Ships like the Cutter don't even stop easy within that distance.

I've played a lot of these spacey-tradey-pew-pew games and in none of them ever has piracy been worth doing. There might be one somewhere, but I don't know what it is.

I don't believe so. My T9 is slow, and I throttled down immediately just to make sure. No, this feels like new behavior because NPC pirates used to at the very least give me their demands before opening fire. This is immediate. Heck, I'm pretty sure they open fire faster than a CMDR ganker can!

Maybe Frontier added a new mechanism to "copy" gankers who are in certain systems in open over to solo and PG. That would actually be hilarious.

Nope dont have this, I got pulled he scanned me and said hand over 10 LTD bloodly cheek. 10 LTD smeg off, 5 may be, 3 ok but 10 LTD he was toast and I got over 700K for spacing the NPC.. 10 was nearly 30% off what I took out of a T6s cargo rack, He was not having them... I had to bump stop that T6, so if they want LTD they can bump stop instead...

Funny, they never tell me how many to hand over, they just give a value statement and I am not fast with math so I have to either engage or run. Oddly the bigger ships I will engage but the group of 3 smaller ones I normally run because they all seem to have natch breaker limpets. Where they are going to put that cargo I have no idea, and you can just dump and recollect and they are none the wiser.

Or maybe they do give the amount of cargo but I never read that far. I'd like a prompt... "hey.. what's up? I was wondering if you wouldn't mind donating some cargo to this group I am with. We really don't want to engage you in combat but we are desperate and well, you're doing pretty well here it seems. So we can only carry one unit each and aren't going to ask for something stupid.. ok thanks! Bye now!"

I've also noticed in my Cutter that NPC interdictions have become more difficult. Always winning with Dangerous
to Elite Anacondas and Type-10s now Elite only Fer de Lances and Krait MK IIs come after me. I'll need new tricks.

"So you choose death!" (no I didn't)

Yes you did. Your words exactly:

I submit to the interdiction

My reasoning: if you comply then you play by their rules. I do not comply and beat the interdiction to get rid of the problem. Which I totally see as moronic - the whole interdiction mechanic:
  • stalking pirate announcing his intent and giving me time to prepare/evade before it even starts. How gentleman of him.
  • pirate loosing all interest after evaded interdiction. Really? He should be pestering you all the way till submit/drop at target so station/outpost gets rid of him. "All that tasty cargo" goes whatever after his first and only attempt goes bad. Whiny, demanding princess.

I wish we had "Interdiction lock detected" ship message instead of "This is the ship I was looking for" direct message. Changes literally nothing but makes things more believable.
