Allow the VR '2D screen' to be disabled?

I support this suggestion.
But does FD read or better, track suggestion forum posts? I doubt it. There is zero evidence of it.
Community Sales needs to become Community Managers, which is what they are called.
Recent AMA's are good but almost always they just say they can't say.
Ever since the kickstarter ended and then V1.0 was released and the DDF ghosted rudely, FD have gone more like a turtle in its shell.
We need a player council and some input into non-major feature work, if FD want to be bleeding edge and actually manage the community instead of just trying to figure out how to sell to the community. Sales will naturally come, they don't need to work so hard at so many "let's play" streams or whatever. Time would be better spent on other things. EVE Online has a reasonable example. Sub-Nautica has a nice public Trello where players can see what suggestions were taken.

This would be a good start.

I support this suggestion.

Cheers :)

They say they do ¯\(ツ)

I doubt it. There is zero evidence of it.

Well, it’s not conclusive, but there’s stuff like this:

The prior VR thread was the 2nd most upvoted suggestion on record (of the 30k submitted). It endorsed this approach:

Possible basic solutions for character gameplay:

And that’s what we got ¯\(ツ)

The other top 3 posts were respectively resolved, or replied to (in the negative, but more info was provided).

I think the CMs are listening, and at minimum will pass popular suggestions up the chain for discussion :)

Only FD knows . . .

Hey, just chiming in as I noticed the PM, and thought I'd support this.

I'd be pretty happy to see it implemented about like the SRV turret. I think there's some who would like the head turret solution, but that always seemed awkward to me. Still, having the HUD glued to the screen would be nice, though I'd like to freelook I think. It's not a perfect solution, but I think it meets the basic requirements I'd have for walking around in VR on planets. Personally I'd think head turret might be awkward, as I'm not sure how you'd get 6 DOF, which is pretty important to me.

For me, options is the best solution, and I still think many of us would be fine with beta testing it before it even goes to live. I also concur with the notion that the signal lost feature could be incorporated to restrict head movement to a bounding box and still get vision.

Competitive advantage I think can only be assessed through experience. In my experience in general, countless things can theoretically give a competitive advantage, but it can sometimes have a cost in performance in other areas that simply make it less viable than a standard option - even if it's better in its niche. Now would be the best time to look at this, as if it becomes a post-release testing, you may not get much good data as mostly it's going to be the VR players wanting to play it.

Just a fun landmark for the thread.

This is now one of the 🎆 Top 5 Upvoted Suggestions 🎆 of the 30,000 on record :)

It's worth noting that the previous top 3 upvoted were either resolved in one form or another, or got a detailed response from a CM. So I think at minimum we can hope that this suggestion will get raised up the chain, and may get discussed at some level by those who could enact it.

I doubt we'll be able to hit the same level of support as the prior VR thread, as some are now mollified by having a workable ship & SRV platform for VR. But I figure it'll be worth pushing at least until launch if no response is apparent.

(At minimum it'd be good to hit 100 upvotes if possible ;). That'd be a nice round number to signal support for some interim 'VR Legs' access :))

I'm suprised they didn't just allow it with the caveat "you might throw up".

Some of us VR players have the heart and stomach of a concrete elephant, and are quite happy to walk around in VR. For instance, Derail Valley (developed by a team of only around 5 people) allows VR players to walk around with the controller, with the caveat on enabling this that it's likely to induce motion sickness in some people.

I don't see why Frontier can't do the same for Odyssey. Until they do, I've really got no interest at all in space legs. Of course I'll try it, but I bought into a VR space game not a flat screen FPS.

Sure, but they don’t offer it as their only control scheme. Even as a 5 dev indie team, they launched with a motion controller scheme from the start ;). (Doubtless in part because systems like controller-relative motion offer some decent solutions to locomotion / nausea in first person).

I’m sure if/when FDev get to VR Legs they’ll want to accommodate both classic control & motion controller schemes as options.

But for now, if any EDVR heads want classic control alone access to Odyssey, something like this low key back door may be the only way.

(Or worst case vorpX :/)

There's a new video about walking around in stations up.

I don't see anything here that I haven't done in VR before. And you interact with items by looking at them, again, nothing new. That's how Elite works right now in VR, even. Look at panels to use panels. Look at targets to select them.

So...can we please get full VR in stations? If on-foot combat is still iffy, I'd at least want to walk up to those big panoramic windows and look at spaceships in VR. That would be worth the entire price of admission to go to a popular station in Open and watch players come and go.

Looking at the roll-out schedule, we might not get to try VREDO until Phase 2 - unless the taxi service allows us to view the transit in VR (as per existing multicrew).

My one slight worry now is that VR was confirmed as coming “at launch” for vehicles - but, as far as I know, Alpha hasn’t been mentioned. Probably me thinking too much into it, I just really want to experience the new stuff in VR 😅
