No suspension of disbelief necessary. If my ship can tool around inside a low gravity spacestation with a breathable atmosphere, then it'll do just fine inside most atmospheres!
The real problem is representing atmospheric worlds. While most of us accept that the visuals, flight model and gameplay will all be subject to numerous restrictions, there are those in our community, who'll doubtless be massively reported and supported by the gaming press, who expect to land on Coruscant or explore an entire Jurassic World. FD have limited assets, they really have to play this carefully to satisfy our expectations.
For myself, I'd be happy with restricted landing areas on occupied worlds (avoiding the need to procedurally recreate Skyrim or Arrakis every time) as long as we get pretty visuals and an interesting flight model. I want my Type to fly like a brick, I want my Dropship to handle like a gunship, I think the Cobra should have a light feel to her controls and so forth. And Alien style gales on suitably depressing looking terraforming planets. And sandstorms. And mist. And...
