An Elite Trader way too fast?

Surely the simple answer to not gaining trade rank too fast is to not trade in void opals? It's always easier for a player to make a game harder than to make a game easier by their choices.

So this is one of the daily "The game isn't what it used to be", "I remember when", "The good old days" posts?!?!?!
Theres good reason for people to be concerned about this, people are skipping pretty much the games entire progression and going straight to harder to fly big ships without an understanding of a lot of the systems. At the risk of sounding like a "back in my day we walked 5 miles up hill both ways" type, having to progress through various ships gave me a better understanding and appreciation of the game and with people just skipping large portions of progression a whole swathe of ships have been made utterly pointless for most of the community.

On the other hand, might be fun to test their metal. I think griefers should start hunting these "Daddy gave me everything on a silver plate" players instead of the poor folk still in Sidewinders. After all, consider the salt when they lose that Cutter because they still don't know how to fly!

Yikes, I'm starting to think like a griefer!
Just as well I'm on track to get mine on my reset commander at Novice then (might end up as Competent first if I throw in more shooty missions for a bit of variety). So don't kill me pwetty pwease!

I do the majority of my "griefing" in small ships like the Viper. Now if you can't defend yourself against that, well.....

Probably not, my PvP experience is pretty much zilch :) I only play in Open because the very occasional bit of running away makes things a little more exciting.

Exploration is similar. First Exploration Elite (main account) took me roughly a year, ish. Un-Engineered AspX.

My alt account (with a little Engineering) took me I think about 2 months. Docked up at Explorer's Anchorage last night, went from 24M Cr to just shy of 300,000,000 and got my Elite status.

Combat is still tough (for me). On my main account I'm now at about 5% Deadly, so I think I may buy an all-multicannon Federal Gunship, if for no other reason than I can name it the Maximus Dakka.

Is it tough, or just gruelling? After the first 100 Elite NPC kills there’s really not a great deal of challenge, it's just repetition. I’m at around 1% deadly and I found getting that far monotonous enough.

It just strikes me as a bit lazy from a game design perspective. If it were me, I would have the Pilot Federation invite players to undertake a series of genuinely challenging trials to earn their Elite status once they reach Deadly (say 10 of increasing difficulty) – introduce some meaningful content to the late game.

* I have no idea how those early players reached triple Elite so quickly. :)

The only thing that could stop the tide of new Elite traders would be to remove mining profits from going towards your Elite score. As for myself, I got Elite Trade doing it the old fashioned way back in the day (A->B Imp slaves), but I couldn't care less if there are a lot more Elite traders out there. Doesn't harm me one bit if someone got their billion faster than I did.

Or Nerf the amount for payouts for mining or at least after dropping so many ores the price will drop the price fast I could see making 70k from Void opal. But I was making 1,650,000 each void opal. On my Third Account, He only Mined almost 700 Ores. 90% of them was Void opal I became Elite Trader.

Note I have 3 accounts. 1 was done before 3.3. He went Exploring But he was also a miner and was my Main Account. I had a total of 6,500 of refined ores mostly Painite Early Mining 1.0 then went exploring after 2.0. I made around 102,000,000 credits in total. Like others, I agree that a little too slow.

The Secondary account I just use Mining and collected 600 tons of refined ores and made around 220,000,000 credits total. Note part of it was Void Opal just trying out mining. So Facts can be invalid in this case.

I would ask to mine 10,000 to 15,000 Void opal should be the norm for Elite. It not to fast but not a one-day affair. Lower price around 105,000 to 70,000 each would be ok

This is what I have been doing more and more of since launch but it has steadily been wearing away my will to play. Deliberately playing badly to not over progress is poor gameplay imo.

But...... Even accepting this is a good design philosophy for trade, how does that work in exploration road to elite?

To be pedantic, you dont' find a lot of total newbies flying 'vettes and cutters because the owners have to, at least, have some knowledge of how the game works and spend some time doing the stuff that's required to gain the required rank.
Annie's flown by "Mostly Harmless" CMDRs, OTOH...
I have an Annie & my ranking is 'Novice'. I'v only got that through shooting rocks (& probably a bit of mining recently for the DWE2 CG's).
I've also got a 'vette & a cutter, during my 9500+hrs of gameplay since release on day 1.

I also bought a 2nd account & made Elite Explorer in a couple of months just going to Sag A* then on to Colonia. My initial account took me to Beagle Point & back to reach Elite Explorer & with that I bought my Annie.

But frankly, I view this as the game moving on from it's original position & I couldn't care less about how quickly other cmdr's earn their credits & what they do..........I play the game how I want to play it!!

I understand, because I do it too in a lot of games, but only to eek out the last remaing hours of gameplay I can. Elite is unique as it's a long running MMO hybrid sort of game. This is why I always advocate difficulty settings or special mission types to push the advanced players and give them something to do.

It's not poor gameplay per se as the player base has a VAST range of skills that the game has to account for, FD should do more...but they have a lot on their plate at the mo.

regarding Exploration, I agree whole heartedly. It took me months (possibly over a year I'm not quite sure) before I got Elite in exploration, took me 4 years to amass a whopping 700k (albeit didn't play much in 2017 or 2018) and that included "road to riches", since the Exploration update and FSS came out and tagging on the coattails of DW2 I now have 2.2 Billion (3 months on and off). It does need to be pushed further or fleshed out (like having to find at least 50% of codex entries in EVERY part of the Galaxy).

Remember you didn't start a Noob?

My second account I got to Trader Elite in much the same time, but I knew what I was doing from 2 years of my first account!!

Still a S C A R Y galaxy for Noobs, I reckon!

The difference is nowadays there are tonnes of videos on youtube showing how to grind tens or even a hundred plus million(s) per hour, not to mention tutorials on davs hope and other material farming sites.

I don't care about titles (I kinda wish I was Harmless so I could take people by surprise), but Elite also unlocks Shinrarta. People are going from Asellus Primus to Shinrarta Dezhra in weeks if not days, making it more of a Burger King than an "Elite" Country Club.

ps - I've been playing for almost two years, and I'm only Elite in Exploration (which I did with the old tools and no R2R cheats). I'm not complaining, I actually prefer it this way!

You get a global 2.5% discount from an Elite rank which is nice.
