Analyzing required animals by Taxonomical group

Happy to announce that I'm finished writing the main thread. You are welcome to read it, give feedback, and add on wherever you see fit.

The thread is finished fir now, and will be re-examined with every new dlc.

Should we get new mechanics such as aviaries or fully aquatic animals, the thread will be reopened for the animal groups relevant to these mechanics that were not examined yet.

Hope you enjoy :)
It was quite a lot of hard work
Thanks for putting all this effort in :)

Im still impressed every single fowl suggestion of mine was mentioned in the main post, you really did a great job catching everything

Just some things i wanted to mention.
I noticed typos in the description of the Asian Golden Cat, baboons, Barbary macaque and ibises.

Also It may just be me but I was wondering if you'd thought of separating the carnivorans into feliforms and caniforms. The section currently is really big and I feel like it'd make sense to split it in half. Only if you want though.

Thanks I'll do spell checks when I get normal internet

Thought about it, but then it would ruin the seperation by taxonomic order which applies to most curremt categories, and I think be less intuitive to people trying to read the post.

So in light of the new dlc, how do we feel about the following groups:
  1. Sloths
  2. monitors
  3. malgasy carnivores
  4. apes
  5. suines
Do you feel they are complete? Do we need more?

Sloths: Well the species we got wasn't the right one, so I would say we still need Linnaeus' two-toed sloth. I don't really expect to get another one officially though.
Monitors: Super happy to finally get another one, but it also doesn't fill my need for an Australian varanid species and I'll always be happy with more monitor lizards regardless.
Malagasy carnivores: While others like the ring-tailed vontsira would be nice to have, I think the fossa was really the only one we needed (and the only essential remaining carnivoran IMO, aside from maybe a coati). Complete
Apes: With a second, more typical gibbon species, I'd say apes are as well represented as we could possibly hope for. Other primate groups definitely deserve all the attention going forward. Complete
Suines: None of the "big three" suines, including the red river hog, were ever very high on my wants list, but I think the collared peccary and wild boar would both still be good additions for their respective regions.

I would say everything is set for me personally. I don't know if peccaries are suids, but I would like one of those and a two-toed sloth.

Yeah, not really a pig, but close enough, I still want Collared Peccary. And the right Sloth species. Everything else I am good on.

Sloths:
We need Linnaeus's Two-Toed still, it's what we should have gotten. I don't expect it to happen but it should.
Monitors:
We already didn't need any more.
Malagasy Carnivores:
The fossa was the only one we needed anyway so this is done.
Apes:
With the lar gibbon we are 100% done, now give some love to monkeys please!
Suines:
Still far from done, wild boar and peccary are needed.

I suspect we didn't get them because they look very plain. They don't have the iconic "mask"
Probably, it's unfortunate that they went for the pop culture icon over the actual zoo animal in a zoo game though. I kinda feel the same about the armadillo, we should have gotten big hairy or Three-Banded.

1. Sloths feel less complete now than they did yesterday if I'm being completely honest. Prior to this, I was fine without sloths. Now I need a two-toed sloth.
2. Probably complete. If we were guaranteed support through 2024 I wouldn't say no to perhaps an Australian species, but it's a low priority regardless. Three feels good.
3. Hard complete, there's really no other realistic choices.
4. Same as above, hard complete. We're at a very comfy place with gibbons now, and we certainly don't need to devote any of our precious remaining slots to another orangutan, or worse, gorilla.
5. Better, but there's still room for growth. Four feels like a good goal here, and my priority ranking of peccary > wild boar = domestic = Visayan warty pig still stands. We could easily even do five if support continues for longer than I expect it to.

1. Yeah i agree, they feel less complete than yesterday :D. I mean personally i dont care to much which species it is, but ive seen a lot of people do

2. Honestly expected the perentie as our 3 and probably final monitor. Australia needs one for me to say that they are complete, but idk how likely that is and its not super high on my prio list anyways.

3. Yeah its complete. Im always up for small animals but the fossa is pretty much the only realistic one to get

4. Complete. Every primate spot has to go to a monkey from now on! :D
( Ok i wouldnt say no to Aye-Aye, sifaka or loris but no more apes please)

5. Definetely a couple left that would be welcome. Peccary, wild boar, and a domestic of some sort are probably the big 3

  1. Sloths
  2. monitors
  3. malgasy carnivores
  4. apes
  5. suines
Sloth: Complete
Monitor: Perentie or bust. We need a desert/arid species
Euplerids: While more would be merrier, we are fine right now
Apes: Complete, but I don't mind if we get a couple more gibbies such as white cheeked or grey
Suines: We might need more imo

We got a sloth so check, might be the wrong one which is unfortunate but is how it is
Same for the malagasy carnivore.
Everything else? It really doesnt make a difference.
Pigs are just as well represented in the great scheme of things, with still only tropical regions being represented.
Lar gibbon is just a less unique clone of the siamang and the fact that there are more gibbons then new world primates is insulting.
The monitor is neat, but nowhere nessecary as what we really needed and still need is an oceanian monitor.
Im quite underwhelmed by the pack and dont think we really got anything essential besides the fossa.

Sloths - ideally a two toed sloth, but not essential
Monitors - Perentie
Malagasy carnivores - are there others?
Apes - give it a few years and maybe the white cheeked gibbon, but there are other priorities
Suines - Visayan Warty Pig, Pygmy Hog (but there are not enough to start a zoo population, so for sake of realism I wouldn't demand them)
