News Announcement: Elite: Dangerous coming to Xbox One

Are you kidding me Michael? What are you doing to this game? It's a potential masterpiece, groundbreaking piece of art and you are now supporting the Xbox version more than the original PC version? I have to say, with all the mistakes Frontier is making, you're basically begging myself and others to completely convert to Star Citizen when it comes out. Yes, they are totally different games, but the bugs and complete lack of communication in this game are about to make me put it down. In fact, there's a couple more games that I would now rather play than Elite for several reasons. Mind you, if you all could get your act together, I would pay handsomely for every update; provided it wasn't just a couple new ships (sometimes only applying to empire players) and some limited content that only applies to people who have the luxury of not working. Here's just a few:

1. Interdiction bugs.
2. Lackluster content that largely only applies only to hardcore gamers.
3. Support of the console version over the original.
4. Complete grind to have anything in-game worth having.
5. Lack of communication except for over-hyping of pretty lacking content.
6. Release of a multi-player update that basically penalizes players for "winging" up by splitting their bounties.
7. Large disregard for the fact that not everyone is a mindless trader jumping between systems...

Rant is over. Please get your crap together Frontier, and please don't ruin a great game...

I think you are overreacting. Think about from FD's point of view. If they were to wait and release the game much further down the line, ED's inital release afterglow could fizzle out. They have to strike whilst the iron is hot and release to the other platforms to get the largest interest and buy in! The CQC stuff for Xbox is really more of a console type feature and to be honest if you feel that ED is a potential masterpiece you can't think it that bad. The console stuff doesn't bother me and I'm not sure why it would bother you so much. Maybe it's just because you aren't getting it first. Seriosuly, does it really matter that much. It will come soon. It might be a good idea if you were to possibly do what you threaten to do and come back to Elite in 6 months time. I doubt you will though because deep down I think you love it ! :) It might be worth a break all the same though.

Your points:

1. I've not had any interdiction bugs yet. Maybe you are talking about PVP. I don't tend to do that so maybe you are experiencing something I don't.
2. FD and the community have been saying all along that depth is the issue. Not sure what you mean only applies to hardcore gamers ? You can trade, bounty hunt and do everything you used to be able to do in the original Elite.
3. Hardly. It's a console version with a console feature.
4. I agree with this but I'm sure FD are aware of this. They have enough people reminding them every day. I'm sure they will try to address this.
5. True but don't forget that they have been busy with PP and also the Xbox release...quite a lot really. I'm sure once things calm down they will give us more info.
6. I don't wing so I guess this isn't great. Don't wing up when bounty hunting...easy really.
7. Not sure what you mean by this. I think the game does cater for bounty hunting, pirating and a few other things.

I'm sure once the main releases for the chosen platforms are completed the updates and bug fixes will come plenty ! Be patient and the game will become something we and FD are all proud of...im sure !

you may not enjoy trading yourself but there is no excuse to insult those who do by calling them mindless , remember everyone has a choice of how play the game .

I wish people would stop saying that cqc is a "console type feature". It's as bad as saying all console players are "12 yr old cod players". This goes for Brooks too.

I'm not a console player myself but I know that just because some people play fps shooters on console it doesn't mean all console players are like that and the moment you start randomly tarring groups of people like that you lose any kind of respect.

I wish they'd stop patronizing everyone just tell the truth that is was an exclusive for microsoft and be done with it. I'm pretty sure a ton of people are interested in cqc on pc, maybe not on this forum but i'm sure there's a whole bunch already playing.

People aren't mad at not getting the feature because it's a console exclusive but that they think they should have used the development time to put more meat in the game for the benefit of all players regardless of platform. They're also mad because 1.3 was a buggy shambles and a lot of players are in limbo right now until they get back from E3 and fix it. A lot of players are sick of the "carry 5t of veg for 10k" missions and would gladly play cqc right now whilst waiting for fd to pull their thumbs out. The 6 month wait sucks.

I welcome all the xbox players and hope they can sort out crossplay (not off the table yet as of yesterday's twitch stream).

I am interested in it, and I'm a PC player. It's about the only thing that would bring me back to the game now, to be honest. The 400 billion stars, with no real diversity of note, and human space filled with the same assets with different names and numbers, is too retro for me to be spending any more time with.

The fact that RES and other combat instances are all that's actually fun, means I just need to sit at one high tech system with a good mix to get everything out of the game without wasting time in monotonous time sinks and grinding. After the Powerplay hype, I have little interest in walking around ships, and I doubt planet landings will be anything content rich, probably just a novelty to make more money.

So, I think CQC is the first thing I've seen that might actually be content that adds fun and excitement to the game, for some drop-in-drop-out fun with friends or anyone. Sort of like the same way I pop into Team Fortress 2 from time to time, or other multi-player co-op/team games.

All I wanted to say was "thank you" for the above and beyond quality and foresight to create this game.

It is a game that not only an older gamer like myself will enjoy but absolutely know that my kids will enjoy too!

Keep up the amazing work.

Thank you, i play on PC aswell on Console. XboxOne.

35 year old (young father of 2 kiddo's) and i love playing games like DE. But i also do play FPS style games. (Battlefield only actually)

Im glad to see there are Pc gamers that do respect somebodies choice of platform. And i can ensure you, even tough we never will meet ingame. I will threat this masterpiece of a game with lots of respect.

Im waiting for this game since X-wing vs Tie Fighter games. Its a dream come true. And i really hope we barely scratched the surface of what this game will become.

And for other members here that have doubts if its a good idea to bring this game to consoles, i cant tell you it is. The potentional player base is huge on XboxOne, and all the kiddo's that might wont buy this game unless they only do it for the CQC.

Besides, even though we will never fly in the same instance, we do share the same ingame economy, this is a good thing! Also for you PC gamers.

In Braben's last twitch stream a couple of days he said they were still hoping for cross play so it's not ruled out just yet.

I hope it does go ahead as that'll be more people in the galaxy :)

Yes one hour is frankly insignificant. As in all areas, shoving the people is not the best way to achieve optimal results. A trial week is excessive ? But 1 or 2 days instead of one hour would allow a better appreciation and probably will avoid losing customers. For my part, one hour of trial ? I do not even look at the game

Yea a week probably is excessive, your right about that. I thought a little more about that after I posted it. Maybe 24 playable hours. I know this game is pretty addictive. Anybody that plays that time would have enough acquired in the game to want more by then. But for sure 1 hour isnt enough time for anything except for someone to say screw this. It took me about a week to feel comfortable adjusting to the learning curve of the game. Maybe less for some and more for others but an hour wont cut it. :)

1 hour allows just to die several times without doing anything of other

:p

How is the game doing on the XBox? Is it a success?

Yeah, its the same as the PC. Key mapping to the controller has been done really well. Some bugs here and there, and you do miss a mouse and keyboard sometimes, but for the most part its about as good as it could get, portwise :)

Very interesting although not unexpected given the capability of the latest generation of consoles.

Looking forward to seeing how it develops.... :D

Am pretty sure Elite could only run on the Xbox 1 and later on the PS4 cuz of the engine Elite Dangerous is using not because the consoles are so great, they will be outdated soon anyway if you see the new lines of graphic cards coming out.

Ok, and? This comment seem's completely unneeded, even if it is true for future game's ED is already here so new line's of GPU for PC won't make this game incompatible with X1.

sorry if this has already been answered but this thread is incredibly long.

If I already own the PC version, do I have to repurchase E : D for the Xbox One version and/or will there be a way to transfer/exchange my pc account for an xbox one account like they did with SMITE?

Yes and if you buy the GPP version now you will get the full game at no extra charge on release. You also get a 5GBP discount voucher to use in the store (you should have received an email).

and/or will there be a way to transfer/exchange my pc account for an xbox one account

No.

I don't understand how ED would NOT be dumbed down completely because of this. I never play console since I'm used to having control over everything. Explain how playing with a little toy handheld controller can allow all the bindings like on a PC? It can't, therefore the game will have to cater to those people, and remove all the customization that we currently have.

certainly not just a toy , i have every binding i need, i rather lay back with my controller with my girlfriend feeding me berrys

also do you know how many possible combinations on a xbox controller has ....
do you know how many possible combinations elite dangerous needs

this game can cater to everyone , mac pc , xbox , ps4 , hell if it was me i chuck all you noobs on one world

and the game wont have to change a thing ,, btw i play on PC, with a xbox controller , and xpadder to sort the deadzone out ,i have 0 problems, pvp or exploring , the only button im missing is M , - System map on the pad , but big woah i hit M pick my mouse up and browse , not a problem , i think you have not even played this game with a controller , and have based a opinion on something that you havnt even tried

When is the Xbox one version going to have the horizons expansion?

This is the million dollar question. All we know (all Frontier is telling us) is that it will be here 2016. Also, it won't be here in the 1st quarter. So, theoretically, the earliest we will see it is April of 2016.
