Annoying things found In Elite Dangerous.

First of all, This post is a record of what i have been experiencing since game release. I want it very clear that I love this Game. I will be playing it as long as I am alive. ;)

Second of all, These are my personal experiences and I realize that others may not experience the same.

If some of these items have been dealt with already, please except my apologies. My goal with this post is to Make Frontier aware of the simple things and how important they are to me as a dedicated Elite Dangerous Commander.

If you read and agree with any of these items, Please say so. Perhaps even add to the list your own experiences that seem odd to you. Other wise thanks for reading / listening and have a great day Fellow Commanders. Carry on.

1. The way I jump into a new ship. Sometimes I am forced to go through the whole docking process again after swapping ships in the shipyard. The wait is long enough to get into outfitting as it is.

2. Assassination missions: chasing down informant is a redundant drag immersion breaking. Travel to the system given in the mission, only to find that I have to go to another system to find the informant that then leads me to come back to the same system I was sent to in the first place.

3. Bribes to take goods else where. Alternate Destinations. Makes no sense. I don't know who they come from or what faction it's against or why the offer it. So I just decline and go along my merry way.

4. Receiving already ended deadlines that arrive expired.

5. Launcher Play button does not react to clicking on it so I end up clicking on it more than once to make sure I got it.

6. Needing to close the "power play cycle imminent" message after every re-log with in the same day or Half day time period.

7. Passenger Missions menu covers the system clock display in the station menu's. Overlay of some sort.

8. Not every passenger mission is consistent in information or details of the mission when browsing offers from faction leaders.

9. With in the Contacts Menu, at the station, The Cursor jumps to the right panel on it's own. Very annoying. PC version.

10. While Exiting the station, I am told verbally, that I can not enter without requesting to dock. Say What ??

11. Super Cruise Lines that are on the left and right sides of my view are taking up my precious screen view (why not just use a simple blinking box on left and right sides. We would still have an indicator showing us in super cruise, but now we can have a great view out our cockpit of this beautiful Galaxy.

12. While flying over an empty Dock inside a space station, I get a warning message for blocking a pad immediately. Shouldn't there be a delay before hearing this message? I only block it for a second.

13. Ships and Beacons that don't move when I bump them breaks immersion for me.

14. Loosing throttle after dropping out from Hyperspace or from super cruise.

15. Seeing the inside of a station appear before my eyes as I look into the mail slot from the outside.

16. Not being able to read the right panel very well while docked at a station and in the cockpit of my Cutter. It's too bright.

17. The Audio for the Crew while they are in the Fighter, is Ridiculous. They sound panic'd. Why? They are flying Virtually presumably sitting next to me on the bridge. so it's just the ship that will be lost not their life. Then there's the fact that the audio is so far behind what actually happens anyway.

18. Interdiction's always pull me away from my target. They never pull me past or to the left or right of my target so it's predictable.

19. Dropping from Glide, I always have to throttle back up.

20. If the only dock for my ship is occupied, after The ship that occupied it leaves, I can immediately request dock and have access to dock at any outpost. Even though the Dock is not ready for me.

21. Role Panel is Clunky to use. It's repetitive and it's broken while choosing commands like Attack or Defend.

22. In Galaxy Map, I have to zoom in to accurately select an system or planet or station manually. I it would be nice if the zoom part was automatic.

23. Waiting to make a jump to super cruise. All requirements are met, but the ship don't jump for several seconds. a really long wait, too long of a wait. Waiting too long for what ?? I don't know.

24. Switching from Open to Solo while docked at a station. The change over screen shows me outside the station before it switches.

25. Not being able to see how many passengers I can hold total like I can with Cargo. Example: 8 / 120 passenger cabins loaded.

26. Having to delete all players in History listing (one at a time) collected while in Open play mode. I would like to choose whether or not it remembers players while in open.

27. Jumping to super cruise and not being able to see the target that I am jumping to within the same system. (if I deselect the station I had targeted to dock at, then I can see my next target). Bug ?

28. Charging my Advanced D.Scanner only to have it disengage midway through the scan because I look at my left or right panel. Same with Mining, Mining lasers stop drilling when I look at my left or right panel.

29. I'm Tired of seeing that Square on the planets that acts like a shadow gone wrong (big black square shaped). I can see it when I first pop into the System map on each planet as well then it disappears.

30. I am tired of navigating the menu's and more often than not, selecting the wrong thing due to the selector being slower than the mouse on my Pc.

31. I am tired of not being able to pick up materials in a USS's that has a ship or something else in it. The material is located inside the ship or other object, and can't be scooped up.

32. Getting fined for blocking the station entrance while exiting the station. If I block the station entrance, then reverse back into station away from entrance, the station flight control does not recognize that I am no longer blocking the entrance and fines me.

33. Being Told by Flight Control that my landing gear is not down. If my landing gear is not down, I will figure it out for myself eventually... seeing how I can't dock until I do. Also, the message (Your landing gear is not down) is delivered after I Dock.

34. Having to continually press the fire button while mining. This hurts my hand after a while. I would rather press and release, but still have the mining lasers shoot at the asteroid and Press again to stop. Ergonomic related.

Thank you Frontier for your time and efforts put into this game. It's potential is Astounding.

Fly Safe.

5. Mine does it too. Just give it a second. I know I've clicked it.
6. Hate that also
9. Never had that happen
10. I think 10 and 32 are the same thing. It usually happens when you are below 80m/s while exiting.
12. There could be another ship assigned to it. Its like traffic accordion effect. Slow down or block soething and it will cause a chain effect on other traffic coming into the station. Its a little realism. How airports work and how fast you need to clear the runway for other traffic.
16. Is the panel too bright or the station too bright? Check the systems panel last tab you can adjust the UI brightness.
17. Didnt you know they live in the gimp space in the bowels of your ship.
19. It starts where your last throttle position was. While in glide I always move the throttle a little and then back to max. Once exited from glide and at 100%
21. I recommend hotkeying them to the F-buttons. I have them F1-F5 I think. That was before I got VA and a MFD.
23. Does it say throttle up or align with target? Align with target is if you use a HOTAS and it has a little drift in it one of you directional thrusters is still firing and will keep the FSD from fully engaging.
32. Another note to add. Once your nose hits the slot it registers you as exited the station. If you back up you no longer have a active docking request. You need to fully exit the station and get a certain distnace before exiting the station
33. Another realism thing added in. Airports while on final approach is to call out Gear Down and Locked. And someone usually in the tower will verify via spyglasses. So I think it is a cool feature to have. I've come to port tired and forgot to lower my gear and they call over with a warning it will wake me up.
34. I think this is where turret mining laser should come in. If using a prospector limpet. the laser and limpet should sync and let the laser run untill 1.The dist is out of power, 2.the asteroid is depleted, 3.you manually hit the button again to disengage it.

Everything else in total agreement.

34. Having to continually press the fire button while mining. This hurts my hand after a while. I would rather press and release, but still have the mining lasers shoot at the asteroid and Press again to stop. Ergonomic related.

I found a bug that might help you there, though I can't remember exactly how to do it, or if it even works anymore.

If you hold the fire button down, then switch to external camera, it "locks" the firing. This was before the current external camera though.

16. Yes too bright. I like to see how much cash I have and that's almost impossible in a Cutter, still I suppose if I have a Cutter...

34. You could probably fire continuously using a Voice Attack macro thingy.

I got an annoying thing. So many beautiful ships have offset cockpits / dual seating nonsense. I AM THE COMMANDER (Do you know de wae?! Where is the Queen mah broddas, I smell da ebola) of my ship. I do not have a co-pilot and if I did they can be off to the side like proper in the Anaconda / Corvette. Beluga, Orca, Cutter, FDL, etc etc, all of them have gorgeous viewports / view real-estate, but damn the offset cockpit when flying is so damn annoying. I should be smack in the center and anyone else off to the sides, the offset nonsense is just bad design on Frontiers part. I get they wanted things to feel different in some ships but this is just ridiculous and stupidly poor design, no one would fly a ship like this realistically.

1. The way we jump into a new ship. Sometimes we are forced to go through the whole docking process again after swapping ships in the shipyard. The wait is long enough to get into outfitting as it is.

Agreed. Having to watch all that rotation and sliding into the hangar is simply boring.

10. While Exiting the station, I am told verbally, that I can not enter without requesting to dock. Say What ??

Normal thing. Pads are reserved so when you leave the station you release it and make it free. So when you would want to dock again you need to ask for pad to be assigned. Don't see an issue here.

11. Super Cruise Lines that are on the left and right sides of my view are taking up my precious screen view (why not just use a simple blinking box on left and right sides. We would still have an indicator showing us in super cruise, but now we can have a great view out our cockpit of this beautiful Galaxy.

Non issue - it's there to give you a feeling of speed. Space is really, REALLY big, distances are enormous and while flying through empty space you wouldn't notice whether you fly fast or slow. No reference point. So those lines are those reference points. The faster you fly, the faster they move. And by observing their movement changes you can quickly distinguish if you are slowing or accelerating.

Tho toggle ON/OFF would be welcome.

12. While flying over an empty Dock inside a space station, I get a warning message for blocking a pad immediately. Shouldn't there be a delay before hearing this message? I only block it for a second.

Improper flight and docking procedure (guilty of that myself). Observe how NPCs dock - they fly straight from slot, hover ABOVE their pad and then descend. We should do the same. Sadly, pad orientation indicator doesn't appear at that height so we cannot tell if we already above pad or not so we need to fly low and get caught with warning.

Since there is no fine, just warning that clears a sec after, I'd say mildly annoying.

18. Interdiction's always pull me away from my target. They never pull me past or to the left or right of my target so it's predictable.

If you think about it - rather logic. Interdicting ship tries to pull you out. Since he is behind you it's rather obvious he will pull you toward him.

32. Getting fined for blocking the station entrance while exiting the station. If I block the station entrance, then reverse back into station away from entrance, the station flight control does not recognize that I am no longer blocking the entrance and fines me.

Looks like they are on rather short timer from warning to fine and you don't do this fast enough. It is a problem since this happens when flying bigger ships that aren't famous for their maneuverability. Unless you perform maneuver that guarantees collision-less entry/exit you may expect that you get fine because tower simply don't give you enough time to react.

Minor annoyances that I faced:
- while browsing missions I need to compare photo of faction representative with photo on the list to tell which faction I'm currently browsing. There is no indicator which faction I clicked. Going from top to bottom I quite often select faction I already checked because of this.

- interdictions happening ALWAYS when I'm on slow down before dropping SC. You can travel half the bubble with a mob on your tail but he will interdict you ONLY at the very end.

There are more but my brain doesn't work properly atm so I can't name them.

Agree with most, would like to expand on the following...

3) Even sillier is the one for assassinations. If you take an assassination, you are sometimes offered an alternate target. You are NOT told if this new target is clean or wanted, so again, like the OP, I ALWAYS decline.

Things I don't necessarily agree with or have feedback for you on...

4) Can you clarify that?

5) The button starts a large loading procedure, just click it once and wait. I have a MONSTER PC and its still not instant.

6) Never seen that, ever.

7) ?

8) Please elaborate

9) That's a local issue

10) This is an old bug which is long fixed. Strange. Which station? Do you remember?

15) This is your graphics settings, I can see the full interior from a long way out

16) ?

18) Many would disagree with that, there was a huge thread recently complaining about getting interdicted on approach to a planet and then being unable to avoid smacjing into it, eating loads of time to get back to supercruise and start the approach again, not to mention hull damage.

19) When you are approaching, set throttle to full at 100km out and leave it full (once you are 100km above the planet you cannot overspeed). Problem solved.

22) Simply don't agree, it would KILL me if It kept arbitrarily zooming in.

23) This is because of instancing and the fact that the game is P2P, not server/client. You have to wait til the owner of the session's computer has registered your jump. Playing in solo fixes this, but yeh, it's annoying.

24) No, it doesn't, it simply clears the video cache of all models, including the station (that's why you see the universe rotating), right before logging out. This is hardly annoying.

28) Definitely not the case on my game, I frequently start a Disco Scan while on the nav panel and switch to it during without interrupting the scan. I expect this is to do with your joystick or drivers of such.

30) Disable menu animations in the options, it helps

32) Just clear the station straight away? Why are you reversing around the slot!??!

33) Dude, please, don't make them get rid of the landing gear warning, I and many others are grateful for it. Some ships take ages to put their gear down (I'm looking at you Imperial Courier), so the reminder is great for me.

And you forgot the worst one of all in my opinion...

35) In a system with multiple stars, why on earth can we not select which one we drop in at!? It is SO annoying to drop into a system at the 'primary' star which has NO objects around it, and have to fly 300kls to the star that has stuff around it. At least if we can't choose the star, make it drop out around the star with the most objects around it??

#34 is my favourite all time complaint on this forum. Sometimes i'll just be walking along minding my own business and it pops back into my head and I can't help but chuckle.

You ever seen photos of the Space Shuttle Cockpit? Or any airliner's cockpit?...... Or driven a car.....? ;)

OK, so you made a list of annoyances... do you have an equal list of suggestions or improvements that could be made to counter them, too?

I think it's the Cabin lights, but that is just a guess.

If they do Reside in the Bowels of my ship, Why do I have to Activate them at a station ? Something is just not right with this.

19. XCaliber: I always set my throttle to full and it always drops below Full for me.

21. XCaliber: I do key bind Attack and Defend and Recall. Those seem to be the only commands I need. As far as I am concerned, This has nothing to do with the fact that the menu's for the role panel are clunky. Thank goodness for key binds.
