Another List of Features I Want in PZ That Will Probably Never Happen :)

Hi all,

I just felt like writing another list of things I wish would make it into Planet Zoo...Not Planet Zoo 2, not Planet Coaster 2 or anything else but the game we're enjoying now 😋
Here's my 10 things, for no reason and in no order. Let me know if you want them too or what you'd want, or don't. Just do what's fun for you innit.
  • Twitch Integration! -- So I see this working like this: viewers are listed as VIP guests and will wander around your park while they're watching your stream and using overlays on Twitch viewers could adopt and rename animals (with profanity filters though, cos ya know, trolls) using Channel Points that could contribute to your Conservation Points in the game. This could be expanded if the player/streamer enabled it to allow viewers to cause some chaos in the zoo by degrading barriers or upending all the bins etc. Which could be a dose of chaotic fun that PZ sometimes lacks. Or maybe viewers could be staff members and there could be functionality with that somehow. I know this won't appeal to everyone but I stream Planet Zoo sometimes and I know my community would love something like this.
  • Aviaries -- You knew this would be on the list! You were thinking: Oh here we go, another aviary post, same **** - different day! But we really really... ... ...deserve it. Haha. So I won't go into why I want this cos it's obvious but wouldn't it be cute if educators went to aviaries with a protective glove and food satchel and picked up one of the birds and took it to a education post/ talk seating area, and gave a talk whilst holding a bird and then letting it fly around for a bit - then calling it back with a piece of meat or fish. That'd be cute right?
  • Interspecies interaction -- Frontier might not have the resources to do this but I'd love to see interactions, even some subtle ones, between animals that get enrichment from being housed together. While we're on this subject, let me throw in this one:
  • Non-fighting interactions -- I feel like if the animals aren't fighting or breeding, they barely have any animations that allow them to interact. I love the crocodilians but I hardly eeever see them do anything.
  • Soundtrack List/customisation -- There are so many lovely music tracks from the DLC that are relegated to the in-game speakers, meaning you hardly ever get to hear them. I would LOVE to go into options and click on a toggle to add most of them to the main soundtrack of the game.
  • One-way pathways -- This would make me tear up I think, because of how amazing it would be. Right?
  • Aquatic plants contributing towards Water Cleanliness -- Like in the real world, aquatic plants could essentially clean the water (to a certain extent), if you had enough of em. Very handy for bodies of water not within the range of your pumps
  • Snowed on objects/foliage keeping their snowy coatings if inside a below-zero temperature
  • Guests throw in more food -- I remember seeing a hotdog in a habitat once. I've not ever seen guests throw food into habitats since and a zoologist friend said that sadly it is a pretty common occurrence. I think having guests generally do more slightly annoying things that don't necessarily require them to be booted out the zoo would be a bit closer to how customers act IRL (ooft, believe me, I have worked in a venue with hundreds of them at a time and they do dumb stuff - really dumb stuff)
  • Guests with wheelchairs/ zimmer frames etc -- Requiring the player to think about and build around accessibility with the penalty for not being a knock on the overall rating of the zoo if neglected long enough. Ideally lifts (elevators) could be added.
So there's me list, curious to hear thoughts / ideas and what would be on another list you can come up with (cos we've all done these before over the last few years innit) 😁

😁
Force builders to think about accessability would really be one of my pet peeves, too. As a walker user myself (zimmer frame seems to be the wrong word for something with wheels that you use outdoor), it drives me up a wall when I hear youtubers exclaim they build a "realistic zoo" and then there are stairs with no accessable alternative everywhere. Like, you don't even have to think about people with disabilities, ever been to a zoo with a pram / stroller? A lack of accesssability means a lack of income IRL.

I also agree that the animals got too little interactions among each other, sadly.

I find that 90% of the time when a YouTuber says "realistic zoo" they really have no idea what they're talking about. 😅

Or they think, "Backstage area = realistic!" while ignoring everything else.

Most of the time, yes. I have to say, however, that at least in my bubble most YouTubers do care about accessability in their builds by now. Unfortunately it's rarely the most popular influencers...
But to be fair, my own seal habitat isn't 100% accessable, because I didn't know where to include a lift and sometimes the bloody path system and building a nice ramp seems to be impossible for me with underwater viewings. It's okay if it happens sometimes, maybe to even raise awareness, but when you could realisticly not see half of the zoo because of a looooong 30 steps stair right on the main path, then I just get super annoyed. Imagine carrying your sons pram / stroller up there...

I just avoid stairs all together in my builds. To be honest it's not because of accessibility, really, but simply because I prefer gradual slopes in my builds. Both Edinburgh Zoo and Wellington Zoo are very hilly and would be a nightmare for prams and wheelchairs but they're both probably doable (my partner's tetraplegic ex-stepfather was able to see everything in Wellington Zoo, and we pushed our boy around in a pram there).

I also find it quite dfficult to make smooth ramps using the pathing tool because the angles are so rigid; it flows better along terrain gradiants.

You know, thinking about it I can only remember a handful of content creators who have included ramps etc.

Not all do, that's for sure. I know Jonti (Geekism) always had accessability in mind when he still created PZ content. BeyondDrew does too, I believe, but am not 100% sure, as I don't watch him anymore. I thiiiiink @Iben , @justGoron and @ZSHplays have mostly accessable zoo projects, right?
But I know some of the most celebrated projects out there aren't thought that way. I can kind of live with that when the zoo is based in countries where accessability isn't in the thoughtprocess IRL anyway, but if a zoo is based in germany and the netherlands, england, USA... no. (But to be fair, walking London with a walker was a nightmare IRL too. And Zoo Leipzig build their brand new aquarium with stairs only to the second floor, so it's not like real life is always where it should be in 2022.)

The vast majority of my zoo would be accessible, however, as it was mostly ‘built’ in the 1930s I allow myself to skimp on that if I can’t squeeze a ramp in. I do my best though!

I especially like non-fighting animations and interspecies interaction.

What if two animals with an interspecies bonus engaged in play behavior with each other? If that happened, it would instantly make the interspecies bonus worthwhile. Right now it's just kind of there and doing nothing.

As for non-fighting animations within species groups: I really want to see bonding behavior, such as mutual grooming animations, play animations, animations showing fondness such as cats rubbing heads against each other, animals sleeping in a pile. It would go a LONG way in helping us connect with the animals, too. Because it will make them seem more alive. Right now they seem like robots, sorry to say.

The one-way path also sounds really cool and is a very original idea :)

Late reply, but yes, in my own projects I try to keep it in mind always, and when I don't @Iben slaps me on my wrist haha.
Beekse Bergen, being a recreation, is just as accessible as the real zoo, which is quite accessible. I've taken my grandparents there in wheelchairs, and while some inclines were a challenge to push them up, it was a lovely day :)
