News Another sneak peek at Horizons progress (Base Raid)

This was briefly mentioned in the last stream. In Solo you would have to split your time between driving the SRV and flying your ship in. Not exactly the most convenient way to do things but there you go.

But there aren't going to be any other SRVs around in Solo, nor other ships engaged in combat. In Solo - I assume! - it would just be 'you' attacking the base on your own, possibly with NPC skimmers attacking you.

I believe I may have just squeeed ever so slightly watching that footage, which is not a good thing when I'm supposed to be working. Now my work colleagues are all looking at me with confusion writ across their faces.

Is it 'Holidays' yet?

Thanks for that reference. No idea what V2000 was but glad I looked. Looks really cool.

Now imagine those spiders at the end become Thargoid attack beasts, the palette turns a bit less primary coloured (in the later levels it did) and the ship is a pilotable skimmer, and each battle zone is hooked up to the background simulation, governing how strong defenses are and how many upgrades are available, and I think we'd have a game again.

Sadly I'm guessing it's the wrong one...:(

Cant find the quote but I remember FDEV´s intention was to link combat in surface bases etc to Powerplay.

Yeah yeah yeah...but what's the point with these empty planets...there is nothing to do!!!!!!

(Someone had to... :D)

Yep! Just more of the same old stuff from the core game.. how is that worth the price of the game again ;)
.
P.s. Get that into to Beta, for the love of whatever deity takes your fancy!! :)

So if the Corvette is that nimble in a g-field, what does an Eagle flyover look like? Can't wait to see the smaller ships zooming over head. They will probably be moving so fast, they will be fiery blurs in the sky ;)

One question though, if the biggest playable federal ship can bank that hard and not lose altitude, does that mean that flying in a g-field is easy?

I hope not. Sure, have some PP bases and stuff, too. But as someone unpledged, I'd hate to see content like this be reserved for PP.

I think you overestimate the importance of their original comment regarding that. It'd kill the big ships if you couldn't viable use them in planetary flight like that. I have always been very skeptical of the idea, I want neither kind of ship to dominate, not space = big ships rule, planet = small ships rule.

Of course that still leaves the Corvette as a potential outlier with exceptional agility for its size (just like the Clipper, although that will be interesting because its vertical thrusters are super-weak). And since it is from the same manufacturer and not part of the Dropship line, it could very well be some kind of super-Vulture (slow but good turn rate, decent shields but limited weaponry - in fact that would explain the hardpoints over which so many (not I, btw) were disappointed).

*Mod hat off

I dont think all surface based combat would be "reserved" for PP but it just make sense some elements of it are. The galaxy is big, there is room for everyone I hope!

Here is this week’s quick-and-dirty unedited video capture from the Planetary Landings update for Horizons (using the same dev machines as before) as we begin a raid on a surface base, using two SRVs and a ship. Still quite a few elements need work which I won’t list here, but you can see there's been good progress since last week:

Stop playing and get developing lol :D

I think PP would attract many more players if there was more variety in it. THis sort of thing would be great :) Although I do need an Anarchist group before I will play. :D

And who is piloting the Corvette?

I was talking about types of content. For example, interdiction+attacking traders, that exists both for piracy and powerplay-undermining. Transporting stuff, that exists both as trading and powerplay-propaganda-delivery. The underlying gameplay is in large parts the same, it takes place in the same locations, using the same tools, but for different reasons.

So some ground bases would be PP-related, of course. Attacking them as an unpledged CMDR would net you nothing but the ire of the defenders and a big fat rep arrow down somewhere. But there would also be pirate bases to wipe out. Small trading hubs or scientific bases to rob of any valuables. Military outposts that become targets in war between minor factions. All still the same underlying principle, and everyone has a way to experience the same type of gameplay. :)

It's a shame we can barely see the Anti-SRV and the Anti-Ship defenses. The base core can hardly be seen either. Anyone would think you deliberately picked an area in shadow to tease us... :D

I think if they had used an Anaconda in the shot, it would have been more like this:
