Any news on heavier planet atmospheres?

Oh yeah, the infamous "immersion" of EDO.
Horizon :
-long animation to switch ship (removed in EDO, now it's the more immersive black loading screen)
-ingame holographic menu for everything. No "4th wall breaking menu"
-losing your canopy means losing part of your UI because it's actually a screen to
-long supercruise time because IMMURSHUN

Odyssey :
-murder hobo in an anarchy resort system to farm for cat meme and opinion polls without suffering a bounty just so you unlock an engineer to make your boomstick better. This, BTW, is not an exxageration. It is a genuine popular game loop.
-bartenders don't sell drink, they sell epoxy, which, apparently, is hard to get in the grim future of the 34th century. Also seemingly illegal considering they lean and whisper for the trade.
-instant "respawn" in a team deathmatch arena with capture point
-mysterious blue light coming out of nowhere to teleport you inside your ship and black screen to disembark
-"I HAVE A VERY ILLEGAL MISSION !" yell the random dudes in the middle of the concourse 5m away from a guard who seemingly doesn't care
-"0g". Which is just regular grav but with an announcement that it's going to break immersion when you land.
-All the menu but the concourse terminals are 4th wall breaking ones. It's not even like they don't have the tech, they did it numerous time already, and ingame "holographic" menu have existed since doom and dead space.
-Settlements are for doing missions, concourses are for taking them. You don't have any apex in resort (lol), no pioneer, genomic.... in settlements. And in concourses you can't even jump.

This is concept art of the planned Odyssey menu, years ago :

And no, it's not on your "helmet", since you automatically remove the helmet indoor and it stay there. Bonus point for "ghost" UI in station, because they don't switch it off (it's part of early tutorials for Unity if you make a game there BTW).

Whether you prefer it that way or not, fact is the design philosophy have changed. Priorities to. In Horizon and before the priority was immersion, even at the price of gameplay at times. In odyssey, it's the opposite.
But in Odyssey I'm a spaceship captain and I can walk up to things and point at them!
That's ALL the immersion right there!

So I for one am glad they spent time working on this stupid shooter and I hope they spend more time on it too.
Pretty sure they will since the flying a spaceship part of the game is now apparently finished.
I just hope that if they do add on foot firefights with Thargoids they upgrade the legacy alien sites scattered around the galaxy for the fights and don't just drop them in the new Odyssey human settlements...

Is it? Never seen that before tbh, i don't think it's in the artbook, but it seems to only be on 2 sites with the name "EDRPG".
Found it on wiki, Remlock page.
It might not have been SPECIFICALLY for Odyssey, since lots of concept art came long before odyssey was being made, but it is quite obvious this is the same kind of menu we have in odyssey.

Wow you got me. I better stop enjoying myself immediately.

I mean if FD gave us any news there wouldn't be as much negative thought

It would be nice to have something to look forward to, like the stuff that was presented in the kickstarter videos approaching a decade ago. Something more interesting to discuss than how one playstyle is wrong and another is clearly superior, or how important it is to not care about the game on a forum specifically dedicated to said game.

Hopefully the unlocking of more planet types, building on the foundations Odyssey laid down will be a significant part of that. I can't imagine Raxxla being an airless or tenuous atmo planet for example ;)

Untrue, sorry, even last year when communication was better than it is currently
Well, sort of "better". There were more words, but I think the information content is basically the same as now.
  • previews of content to be released in a couple of weeks (still being done, there are just far fewer releases)
  • soon/not soon estimates of fixes for some popular bugs (format changed, but still being done - look at the bug tracker, sort by "top voted", say "not soon")
  • information on what's happening this week (still being done)
  • very little information at all on longer term plans (still being done)

There's less to talk about in those formats now that there aren't monthly patch updates, but when they do have something to say they're still saying it.

As I said months back, the problem with the communication isn't the format or quantity, it's the relative sparseness of "good news", which isn't something they can "communicate" their way out of.

The response was toward negative thought - that remains pretty constant, at least from the 'regular' negative contributors, regardless of communication! :ROFLMAO:

ETA: Frontier are still saying very little, maybe soon? In truth it doesn't bother me much, most of the other games I play, I just play, not bothering to 'participate' in fora, or follow the development of the game, as, same as with ED, nothing useful is going to come from wishing...
