Any plans to add content?

True, I think that's why Im off playing other things, I ran out of things to pretend I was doing while doing the things that are on offer. I love the BGS, but even putting the work in and flipping the station for the pirate faction in a system which was fun, the result was, ohh they still see me as a nobody. I want interaction with the game past clicking the buttons to make the credits go up.

I dont think its ever going to happen tho. So until my brain is in the "I want to be a spaceman" mode again it's Fallout 4 and Borderlands 2 :p

Yeah, you know ... it would be nice if the system factions would take notice of the work you're doing to boost them in the system. I always thought it would be a nice touch if, say, you got aligned to a faction and when you accidentally entered the station without docking clearance they respond by saying, "hey, no problem. Pull up to pad 4. We got you covered".

Procedurally generated content can be very engaging when it causes players to aggregate and interact, eg. a real time distress call to defend a station against a thargoid attack (procedural, win/lose conditions) would probably be well received, particularly if we could win or lose the station depending on how many players respond and how well they do.

Contrast this with the actual situation of Thursday => server tick => station state: burning and You Missed The Battle.

It's pretty much the worst possible implementation. It is the polar opposite if the epic laser battle promo vids. It's simply terrible and I am incredulous that even a fanboi would want to defend this kind of previous-century design.

I suspect you won't believe this but I thoroughly agree with your idea a galaxy wide distress call notifying all Commanders that a station is being attacked, it would be very interesting to see how many would respond. It would also have to be a very long and drawn out battle, possibly as long as 24 hours. Commanders would have to get to the system that the station is located in, and that could take a couple of hours . Especially if they have to change ships, even reconfigure ships for combat or evacuation.

The next consideration is why the long battle - if the battle was only an hour or so long, which real life timezone would it be in. If they time it for the peak playing time in England (where FD is, it would make sense) then those in the USA, Australia, heck, just about anywhere else would be at school/work/asleep/whatever. And you could bet that if a group misses out on these battles because of a timezone then the forums would be running hot with upset Commanders.

Probably the best solution is to have announcements on GalNet advising that the Thargoids have been observed heading towards System XX, anticipated arrival time of 48 hours. And run those GalNet notices at increasing frequency over the next two days with a decreasing arrival time. That should let those that are interesting what is going to happen and take the necessary actions to get ready and get there.

Someone on another forum bought this game, general concencus was there is no content beyond the initial grind towards a beter ship, a refund quickly ensued.

Comparing this game to another sandbox, lets say Mount & Blade, really shows off how much ED is lacking in the content department.

So, any plans?

So, on another forum, was talking to some chaps, and general consensus there was that ED is filled with content.

Comparing this game to another samdbox, let's say Mount and Blade, really shows off how much better ED is looking!

So, any plans for Mount and Blade?

I am quite old could you please explain what you mean by “content”
Around these parts it's mostly a synonym for "stuff I enjoy". And the great thing is, it's true for absolutely everyone.

Or maybe they'd like FD to deliver the game they advertised and have been waiting for, instead of Farmville in Space.
On the one hand it's objectively true that ED has yet to deliver on everything FD "advertised", for a very broad interpretation of "advertised." It's certainly not yet the game that was talked about in the Dev Diaries or the DDF Proposals. It may never be that game, although it certainly could be if development efforts were concentrated on those concepts.

On the other hand much of what many players are "waiting for" is often in their own heads, a construct that's partly seeded by the game's shortcomings but also the result of wildly optimistic interpretations of developer intent and "ED needs to have..." cherry-picking of mechanics from other games. I'm reasonably sure that everyone who has ever posted here has fallen into that trap at least once. I know I have.

Reconciling the objective with the subjective is where all the friction comes from.

Well, that and the lack of bug fixes. That's 100% objective.

The unknown probe mystery is an example of something they did right, too bad they abandoned that direction.
And yet I could find a number of posts from people angry that FD spent so many resources creating "content" (or not, see first paragraph) that could only be enjoyed by a handful of "first come, first served" players and that relegated the remainder to playing catch-up on YouTube.

FWIW I liked the probes plotline, even as an observer. In some ways it felt more like an ARG than part of a videogame, and I would love to see more stuff like that. But it's by no means a universally shared opinion.

Very little in this game is. That's part of its problem. It's like an unfolding piece of art whose canvas is so wide that everyone has their own opinion on what should be painted upon it. Every time FD adds to it, some people nod in admiration while others walk away in disgust.

If you put yourself in the position of a solo commander in a huge galaxy, the storyline content makes sense. Not everyone can discover stuff for the first time, and the overall storyline will be hidden unless you go looking.

Right now we have a hostile alien force attacking the bubble for reasons unknown. We are using another alien races' technology to help combat the threat, BUT the attacks have been mainly aimed at the shadowy Aegis company... exactly who are they? What do they know? How deep does the corruption run through all of the superpowers? Is human society being railroaded into a conflict which is not what it appears to be? Are there more alien species out there? We read stories by known authors about things which have happened, but how much is real? This is not a single player game - you must accept that there are tens of thousands of other people doing their own thing out there too..

The storyline is evolving and progressing whether you choose to be involved or not - it is about as real as a simulation can be right now.. the slow story telling seems to partly be so that commanders have an opportunity to react, but also because things are so difficult to find in this huge game-map. You can help yourself by collecting money and ships, just like in a real economy - there will always be those who lust for shiny things, but there will be those who prefer to commit to science, discovery, religion, combat...

You will get out of this what you put in. (My own contribution is from 3 years of daily flying)

It's not really possible to get into the game within a few days, also apart from being a Sandbox game there is really nothing else connecting Mount and Blade and Elite.
The fact that really a lot of players still play Elite and have been playing for years now (including me) means that the game has something to offer others don't. I guess it comes down to the "Elite is not for everybody" statement, which is pretty much it, I think.

If you look at OP's posting history (not recommended, you will never recover the minutes lost to your life), it's always click-baitey and negative about the game. All the time. He's not worth the effort.

I'm wearing lynx deodorant, I'm not mad that hordes of girls are not throwing themselves at me (right now they're only human after all). This is because I understand what advertising is and only expected the deodorant to stop my armpits from being a bit whiffy.
I had to stop using Lynx deodorant because I had hordes of women throwing themselves at me and I didn't have time to play ED. :p

Maybe it's the bright orange pressure suit?

However, to claim that ED has no content or little depth just shows a lack of knowledge of the game and/or a lack of initiative where your in-game activities are concerned.

I've heard somewhere, might have been on these forums, that this game is an inch deep.
The silver lining, to me, is that its a mile wide.

Yeah, didn't work for me, either. :(

On that note: I've mentioned this before but I think it would be an interesting add-on.

Never having played WoW, I know there are expansion packs you can buy that add content to the game. I wonder why FD doesn't go this route. There's more than enough locked systems in COL 70 that could be used for things like this.

Where else would you find the Laser Of A Thousand Truths, hidden on a small moon, somewhere in a small cave, behind a locked door with a sign on it stating "Beware of the Thargoid" in big, bold, friendly-looking letters?
