I am quite old could you please explain what you mean by “content”
Around these parts it's mostly a synonym for "stuff I enjoy". And the great thing is, it's true for absolutely everyone.
Or maybe they'd like FD to deliver the game they advertised and have been waiting for, instead of Farmville in Space.
On the one hand it's objectively true that
ED has yet to deliver on everything FD "advertised", for a very broad interpretation of "advertised." It's certainly not yet the game that was talked about in the Dev Diaries or the DDF Proposals. It may never be that game, although it certainly could be if development efforts were concentrated on those concepts.
On the other hand much of what many players are "waiting for" is often in their own heads, a construct that's partly seeded by the game's shortcomings but also the result of wildly optimistic interpretations of developer intent and "
ED needs to have..." cherry-picking of mechanics from other games. I'm reasonably sure that everyone who has ever posted here has fallen into that trap at least once. I know I have.
Reconciling the objective with the subjective is where all the friction comes from.
Well, that and the lack of bug fixes. That's 100% objective.
The unknown probe mystery is an example of something they did right, too bad they abandoned that direction.
And yet I could find a number of posts from people angry that FD spent so many resources creating "content" (or not, see first paragraph) that could only be enjoyed by a handful of "first come, first served" players and that relegated the remainder to playing catch-up on YouTube.
FWIW I liked the probes plotline, even as an observer. In some ways it felt more like an ARG than part of a videogame, and I would love to see more stuff like that. But it's by no means a universally shared opinion.
Very little in this game is. That's part of its problem. It's like an unfolding piece of art whose canvas is so wide that everyone has their own opinion on what should be painted upon it. Every time FD adds to it, some people nod in admiration while others walk away in disgust.
