Anyone else getting a bit frustrated with the prolonged narrative?

So doom then from some, not entirely surprising but it's all pretty irrelevant.
They have set their course so i doubt much will change that in the short term.
I'm sure they will appreciate good ideas but just bashing things you don't like is not gonna help much of anything.
Your choice.
It is naïve to think that people aren't going to complain about bad decisions made by FDev. Its not about "not liking" stuff, its about a lack of quality in the output of this game in recent years. Lack of quality in FPS gameplay, lack of quality in performance/stability, lack of quality in communications, lack of quality in planet tech, lack of quality in future ambition, lack of quality in narrative pacing ...

But some diehard members of this forum seem adamant that this lack of quality is an intended game feature which shouldn't be debated and try to swat down any form of criticism against the game by labelling it "doom", "bashing" and "trolling". Its time to admit the flaws the game has instead of pretending that it is this pillar of perfectionism that was handcrafted by god himself ... but it's your choice ...

I appreciate the effort by FDEV to put a narrative in the game, I just find the one they've used and the way they've done it to be bum-achingly boring - hence why I've flown off into the black and am currently about 15KLY away from the bubble...it's weird out here...

Hi All :)

I appreciate the effort by FDEV to put a narrative in the game, I just find the one they've used and the way they've done it to be bum-achingly boring - hence why I've flown off into the black and am currently about 15KLY away from the bubble...it's weird out here...
Yup, exactly what I've done over the last week, the narrative just doesn't hold my attention.
At least I can put my stamp on a few systems out there.

Jack :)

I've been detached from the narrative since the days of Jacques' community goal whose result was determined to be 'sabotaged' by 'player activity' (but really, by Fdev themselves deciding to subvert everyone else's desired outcome and invested time and effort by rewarding the trolls 'probe-bombing' the station).
As someone who contributed substantially to bringing UAs to Jacques, I'm happy to put your mind at ease that the motivation definitely was not 'trolling'.

That FD decided to plonk Jacques somewhere entirely different was completely on them.

Ooh that was a really self defeating move on Drew's part... I never heard that before.

It wasn't especially "sketchy".

Team Voldermort was hired to be part of Salami's "protection" squad ("set a thief to catch a thief" and all that) and they insisted that nobody else should be flying an armed ship... which, in the end, was a bit like hiring foxes to guard a hen house and requiring that the farmer puts away his shotgun.

I'm sure the whole thing was engineered to be "lively", and that's fair enough I suppose.
The part I found a bit silly was that a couple of player-groups who, until that point, were considered fairly credible, ended up looking like total plonkers (either intentionally or accidentally) and I think that was probably a poor choice.

I have to amend my words! I wasn't playing ED yet when this happened, but I did read about it, and I've watched some youtube and read more about it as I found it a very cool thing to have done. I didn't know/remember the part of having hunters in the friend list, but if they designed it like that I shouldn't have said self defeating!

It does surprise me that they made it so far, must have been an epic run jumping so far with so many hunting you!

I haven't been around long, almost two years now. The game is not perfect and in some ways downright broken. My choice is to take the game as it is because its all I'm going to get and all I have to play. Its been a long long time since any game grabbed me the way that this one has. I also recognize that not everyone, and probably most players, sees the game the way I do.

For the most part, I make up my own head canon and just go with that regardless of how FDev or anyone else thinks I should/shouldn't experience the game or how others experience it for themselves...

The whole failure of that debacle does show that you can't run specific events like that where one person is the hero/objective. Events in the galaxy need to be general.

It's like I said. We're all bonkers!
This game is unique.
40+ years I've never found anything close.
I'm entitled as much as my trolling nemesis' to have a say, in how l want it to go.
Obviously it's my way..!
We're all like that. We want collective support to raise momentum on something that may or most likely may not ever feature in the game.
Previous generations of gamers have asked the same questions debated the same arguments.
Doesn't make it necro to pull it to the surface and have a rehash at it.
A forum is a mind meld. Sharing of thoughts concepts ideas fixes etc.
Long may that continue

It seems that the focus on the current narrative isn't in telling a high quality story, it is instead to drag out the ongoing narrative for as long as possible, probably to prolong the feeling of something going on in the game.

The narrative feeling a bit like this ...

If the azimuth saga was condensed to take place in about half the time it would be remembered and appreciated a lot more. Im sure everyone would've preferred a year of action packed events and story then 2+ years of dragged out story. Its taken so long to tell, that many people (myself included) have probably forgot events that have happened at the beginning and it starts to become a little bit of a chore to keep up to date. I know the Odyssey mess and console delays probably forced the hand of the narrative team to delay the story, however I was sort of expecting the narrative to kick back into action straight after console cancellation, and it only now seems like something is starting to happen again ...

Its like those series where they pack the middle of the season with filler episodes to bulk up the runtime, all for everything meaningful to happen at the season finale.

Knowing my luck, this is when it all kicks off next week ...
FDEV have released a (very unfortunately named IMO) roadmap recently, which details the major points in the story development, with November's Patch 14 being the culmination of Azimuth Saga IIRC.

The issue I find from a gameplay perspective is Frontier add some POI and its unique and in fairness usually pretty well done... but your natural tendency as player is progress the experience to investigate the 'what is next' and that is where the game crushes your soul. There is never an arc or conclusion its always an event a one off or sequence at best. Instead what you get is an endless procedural universe that simply hasn't had the content added you're looking for and that's a problem from the players perspective unless you're into some RP like cycle that allows for the nothingness and photographing the same thing from a different angle ad infinitum.

So you're not a fan of BGS or squadrons then.

I almost wanted to correct you there, when I realized we don't actually know for sure. 😝

I wanted to say that U14 would kick off the next big narrative thing after the Azimuth Saga, which would conclude in U13.

To quote Zac from yesterday's DS:

[...] The team are working hard on Update 13, and the culmination of the Azimuth Saga, so today's Discovery Scanner is on the lighter side as we go into full prep mode. [...]
This could mean that Frontier are working on U13 and U14 simultaneously (which they most likely are anyway), or it could mean that U13 is the culmination of the Azimuth Saga. I read it as the latter. Guess we'll find out soon.

Oh nice one! Even better I think, it's about time this story concluded.

Not frustratated, more like "lost the plot". As in, I don't know what happened because I dont follow so closely. Which means I am likely to miss the resolutions of the story.

I am. I thought they were going to unlock COL70 for exploration when we first decoded the Unknown Probes and they pointed there. When was that... 5 years ago?
That's pretty much been my goal since then. Seems the game will be in sunset before Fdev decided to move the story along... (sorry, just really frustrated at this point)

Yep,
I half expected COL70 (it is over 1000LY across) to be opened up to further the Thargoids narrative (homeworld/hive/etc) or another story completely.
What a totally wasted opportunity!
