Honestly, the only complaints I hear about engineering come from people that are too lazy do it.
Sorry, I get fed up with certain trolls in these forums and I have no intention of starting to condone the attitude of prove it that some seem to push. What's with the hostility?
I just hate to hear that something that's been so helpful for me and many others isn't working properly for you.
Sorry if I came across as offensive. That wasn't my intent.

Actually, the reason I don't do it isn't because of laziness, it's because there was the idea that engineering your ship wasn't necessary. Except just try to fly around and fight NPC's (much less actual people) without doing so, I dare you.
Yeah it's just you. I can have a ship fully engineered in about an hour.
Mat grinding can get a little tedious but if you know where to grind and how to grind you can get enough mats to fully engineer a ship in a matter of hours.
Unlocking all the engineers does take a long time but I feel like it's a core part of ED's progression system.

If they already have the materials and a limited range of kit - it is plausible.A ship fully engineered in an hour, what a load of nonsense.
You were calling us all lazy, that's offensive.

The issue is you come across as I don't believe you, prove it.I meant I didn't mean to come across as offensive rlsg in my comments trying to help him/her.
Well all I can say is that was not true for PC users like myself - whether that is a platform specific issue or some other concern is unknown.
All I can say is that with 100% certainty that the situation I have described is in accordance with my experience on the PC.
Well, it has not proven to be the case for me - regardless of the reason.i am a PC user and reported just a few posts ahead that birdman is right...

As a software engineer with many years of experience I can fully appreciate how certain issues may not occur on all setups (even in cases of identical software on apparently identical hardware on the same network), I do not find the issue particularly limiting and did not ask for any help. It is not as if I do not know how to play ED or use the UI either.![]()
.Then you are not in the Live system, you are in the 3.3 Beta.
I can say for certain that post-3.0, I have been unable to add/alter experimentals at places with an engineer with lesser capability than the upgrade I had fitted. My personal way round that issue which definitely applied at 3.0 and possibly 3.1 was to only apply the minimum (or near minimum) engineering, then the experimental (at a suitable engineer), then continue upgrading it afterwards.
If this issue was fixed at some point it was never announced in the release notes (not even for the Beta).

Boohoo.
I meant I didn't mean to come across as offensive towards rlsg in my comments trying to help him/her.

Most of the time would be spent jumping between systems and flying to docks.
From scratch it's not even remotely possible, is it?
The question is how long it really takes from a fresh start and we are talking probably 20hrs play minimum.
This also forces players into undesirable play styles as well.
It was advertised as a crafting system, which it most definitely is not.
Boring rng grind, Fdev speciallity.
I am not so sure about that, but so what if it does take at least 20hrs from scratch. From scratch it's not even remotely possible, is it?

Not necessarily true - but it depends on specific gameplay interests and choices - ultimately, it is not a compulsory part of ED to engage in either. This also forces players into undesirable play styles as well.
