Anyone struggling?

I came across some of this over the weekend as I was trying to set up a river ride between a path with a path bridge leading up to a raised path plaza area. I got everything in place and then couldn't get the water to go high enough. Some people in another thread helped me and I realized that there is an issue with water too close to a path. I deleted the plaza and moved it a bit further away and everything worked perfectly. Every virtual toolset has it's own idiosyncrasies that are frustrating until you understand them. Once you do you just build with them in mind. The more I learn about the building and terraforming tools in Planet Zoo the more I really like them. Especially the terraforming, it's actually quite amazing.

The tools are pretty good.

When you watch some YT videos, you'll notice people using more items to build something and delete some parts afterwards - just to line up the building.

It's a bit more struggling to get the proper mindset. You know, you also need to use more parts, just to make building something easier..
That's a lot more different than most games.

In the beginning was struggling a bit with the hotkeys, I don't like how this is implemented in the help section so i just printed this list and marked the options with different colours..

Hey @markun! If you think you should take time out, please do - do what's best for you! But I just wanted to say I really liked the three habitats you showed. We are aware Planet Zoo can have a steep learning curve for some, especially those who didn't play Planet Coaster. It's easy to get disheartened when you can see a lot of Planet Coaster veterans finding building in Planet Zoo a breeze, however they had three years to practice. I think a lot of commentators on this thread understand that it can be easy to be disheartened, but like I said, I thought those three screenshots you shared were fantastic. If you do happen to return to the game, please keep sharing your builds. The community can help you achieve some things in-game too by giving you advice too, all you have to do is ask for it. It's something I've learnt about them myself as a Community Manager.

I think what Chante says is important to remember - most of the Big Name YouTubers played a lot of Planet Coaster, and a lot of them have even said that Planet Zoo is easier to deal with because building habitats is a breeze compared to building intuitive rollercoasters and such. The YouTubers are great to watch for a bit of inspiration, and a lot of them are doing tutorials as well which are extremely useful (though, I still haven't managed to do an underwater viewing gallery, despite several attempts - I understand how it works, but it just seems to not want to work), but it's silly to compare yourself to them.

I never played Coaster, but a lot of fiddling around has led me to think I'm not doing too badly.

Thanks for the support and further advice everyone. I love designing zoos and have done it all my life from making rock pools in the garden for my playmobil polar bears as a child to drawing maps and sketching enclosures and playing Zoo Tycoon 2 for about ten years. So I’m not going to give up forever but I do need to step back for a short while.

I currently have the goal of building a small, fairly realistic zoo in full - I have a pretty clear vision of how it should look - and I’ll definitely share it once it’s done but it might be a while.
