Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Expedition

One side note. Some of us (years ago) chastized the author/developer about putting rocket launchers on a spacecraft sent in peace for all mankind to another world.

He may have taken them out, but I have not played the game in years, so I don't know if he did or not.

There is a "checkbox" somewhere in the options menu to turn "rocket launchers" on or off.

o7....

IGN has a pretty excellent free online version of the regular Atari Lunar Lander if you don't like the rocket launchers. I went to a vintage arcade/bar place a couple of times recently that was really cool but I was irked they didn't have Lunar Lander as I've gotten my skills pretty sharp. They did have Star Wars: The Arcade Game, Star Trek: Strategic Operations Simulator and a bunch of other cool crap though. And some game called Lunar Rescue that was sort of a mix of Lunar Lander and Space Invaders... which admittedly sounds cool but I wasn't a big fan.

My first expedition, thoroughly enjoyed it - great bunch of people on the discord, lots of shenanigans and just a really nice co-operative atmosphere. Everything that speaks volumes about this game and it's community.
Special thanks to all the co-ordinators , especially Yanick in the instances I was present

While I didn't get the chance to interact with folks on this expedition (US timezone and not a lot of free time) I just HAD to take part.
I was born in April 1968 and my earliest recollection of the moon landing in 69 is very much what i would call a "waking dream". Not sure that its actual memory or things that formed in my head after hearing from parents and relatives who were there for the event. We had one of the first TV's in our neighborhood and the room was packed full of adults standing behind the area in front of the TV with that area being filled by all the kids. My 4 older siblings and neighborhood kids all splayed out in front of "who knew what we were actually watching".
There are pictures of me staring rapt at the TV set as the landing was happening.
So, with that in mind I felt I had to get in on this tribute to one of the greatest feats Sol ever attempted. And accomplished.
When is the Apollo 13 expedition? (rescues, fuel rats, hull seals????) Could be fun!
Cheers to everyone that participated!

Yeah, I started late and never saw another commander so it was more of a guided tour for me but a good one. I'm not old enough to remember the moon landing as I was born in '80, my first experience with NASA and manned spaceflight was when I was in Kindergarten and the lady who watched several of us kids gathered us all up in her living room to watch the Challenger launch with Christa McAuliffe. Needless to say it didn't exactly start me out on the right foot and for most of my childhood I was more interested in the fictional voyages in Star Wars and Star Trek than what the real space explorers were doing. It wasn't until I was in high school that I started getting interested in actual manned spaceflight, particularly the Apollo program, and I've been watching/reading everything I can about it since. I just finished a great book called "Into The Black" about the shuttle's manned test flight with John Young and Bob Crippen. It also goes pretty in depth on the NSA programs NASA was working with and how they used spy satellites to check up on Challenger after there was some tile damage during takeoff. Pretty cool stuff. Now I'm reading that new Apollo 11 book "Shoot For The Moon".

I missed out on seeing the Apollo flights too, due to not existing yet, though just barely. :D I remember when the first shuttle launch happened instead, as we all gathered up in school to watch the launch on TV (Columbia, when it still had the white paint on the external tank). At the time, I felt that the shuttle was the latest and greatest, and of course that made it a bit of a hard blow when Challenger exploded in '86. That was one of the few times that I stayed glued to the news broadcasts all day.

Hello CMDRs!

I'd like to thank everyone who participated, volunteered for, wrote about, and spread the word about the expedition.
It was a short but wonderful adventure, getting to know so many of you. And seeing everyone have such a great time!
Especially those of you who'd never ventured out on an expedition before. To paraphrase a wise Jedi, you've taken your first step into a wider world ;)

One of the best expeditions I've been on with the most amazing bunch of people, many of whom are now lasting friends. TY Cmdr Yanik and all staff for all your hard word. Epic fun, amazing sights. Go again? ;)
