Are there animals that shouldn't ever be in game?

This has been brought up before as other have stated. But my personal opinion is this, we understand that this is a game. It is not real life. We should be able to play the game without feeling guilty of real world implications. Really, you can make the same argument for many other games. Grand Theft Auto for example, is meant to be realistic to a certain point yet the millions of people who play are not following suit and stealing cars?

Also, what makes these migratory animals more important? All animals have to give up some natural instinct when in a zoo. Its seems kind of hypocritical to say one does not belong and the others do.

At the end of the day, what I think should be in Planet Zoo is whatever makes the game more fun.
You said beautiful, man. It's really beautiful. Great, you explained. :)

I am going to disagree with you, but only for one animal. The Dodo.

We know it existed. We have reference images and actual stuffed birds and bones to study. And unlike the dinosaurs, which it can be said that nature wiped out, it is not to much of a stretch to say that either (for the purposes of a game) that some still survive somewhere or a 'what-if' scenario along the lines of what if we never wiped them out and actually saved a few of them?

So yes, I agree, there are animals that shouldn't be in Planet Zoo .... but the Dodo isn't one of those animals.

I would welcome the Dodo to my Zoo.

As a statue...

Fact of a Modern zoo is... It can't bring already Extinct Animals back Dodo is one of the Animals so we dont get it .Deal with this
Actually .... modern science is looking into doing exactly that. They have theorized that they can bring back the Mammoth and a species of antelope (my memory is foggy on that one) that were extinct long before we ever visited Mauritius As far as I know, science has yet to actually bring an animal back from extinction .... but as I recall, they believe they might be able to do it. It's why Jurassic Park is a believable story, because science is almost at a point where it could happen.

Thanks for all the interesting replies! So the consensus is generally "give us them all!" (with a whole other deabate about extinct animals!) but with some caveats about representation of welfare in game.

I've been reading all the replies and a couple of potential game mechanics sprang to mind which could maybe enhance the gameplay and difficulty etc. and also address this issue. I'm aware that if this follows the development pattern of Planet Coaster that new mechanics can be added post-release but the longer it is after release the harder it is to introduce new concepts because it interferes with existing saves etc. (Plus we don't know, these may already be a thing).

One is an adjustable setting for welfare needs (maybe in a scenario editor or for sandbox) either at zoo level (make all animals needier or less needy than their base values) or animal by animal. We can obviously do this in Planet Coaster for peeps / rides etc. in the scenario editor and it would mean we could really challenge ourselves if we wanted to.

The other is around whether a species is neophilic or neophobic. If they are a species that loves new things then maybe the enrichment items can have a cool-down (a bit like ride prestige in PC with new rides) and actually moving them to a new enclosure or offering them new things would boost their enrichment stats (good for primates, parrots, elephants, lots of the big cats, bears etc.). the neophobic species who tend to be frightened or dislike change would have the opposite, a boost if the enclosure is the same and familiar to them over a long time. This would really play into the management of your zoo - if you have to make adjustments to fit new species in you would have to be aware that your neophobic species might be upset for a while but your 10 year old marmoset enclosure that's never been changed would definitely be a better choice for moving.

Sorry if these ideas have been floated elsewhere and I've missed them, I doubt I'm the only one to have thought about these kinds of things.

Thoughts??? Other better ideas?

I grew up on the Zoo Tycoon games and expecially loved Zoo Tycoon 2. Marine Mania and Extinct Animals were amazing additions.
Of course there are in real life implications to keeping certain animals withing enclosure but as some people here have already pointed out; Planet Zoo is a game.
If there is a demand amongst the players for marine animals and/or extinct animals then there is no real reason not to include those at some point. There should be a balance between realism and the opportunity for players to build their fantasy Zoo.

I loved training my dolphins and bringing a dinosaur to life from a fossil. I'd love to do it again with modern day graphics.

I really hope we don't get dinosaurs and aquatic animals that get stressed in small exhibits (orcas, dolphins, etc.)
What's the little exhibition? In this game you do everything yourself. You can make great exhibitions by yourself.

You're right, I agree with you :)
I'm tired of repeating the same thing.

@Kaan , I think @BernyMoon means that he hopes the game won't make it so that animals are sad in "small exhibits". As in that the game won't force us to make overly large exhibits just to keep the animal happy, making it impossible to have many different species.

From what I've seen from the gameplay footage so far, the exhibits don't have to be massive. The african themed park they showed off in the video below shows multiple reasonably sized exhibits with happy animals so I'm sure the developers have a good size-happiness balance in mind. :)

So you would be happy if this game had dolphins and dolphin shows?
Dude, I don't want to go into this dialogue any longer. Only this is a game and you can do whatever you want in this game. So what harm will the dolphin show do to you? This is a game. It has nothing to do with real life. I don't compare dolphin shows to real life in this game. Knowing this is a game is enough for me to ask for dolphin shows in the game...

They have said multiple times this game is to educate people and they will have a lot of respect to the animals. I am sorry, but dolphin shows are not respectful. Hopefully they will disappear someday and I plan on playing this game for a long time and it would be sad to respect the animals in some ways but not other ways.

If you give them the food they want in the game you give them the space they want, you will be respectful 😉

Personally, I think it is much more disrespectful that they removed all animals' genitals.

Yea lol.. It's like Sims 3 pets and Sims 4 pets all over again but with amazing graphics! XD I wish they could add them in.

EDIT: BUT then again a modder could potentially add those in but very tediously and diligently.. XD Tiresome work i'd expect. (because in sims 3 we had an awesome modder who made 'junk' for horses, another who did dog junk.. and maybe cats to? I don't remember..(They weren't to detailed but close enough to make it look like a male or female.. xD) Also, just found a sims 4 cat and dog junk mod (which currently is only a piece of clothing but a start for Sims4).. LOL i love realism, can't you tell?
