I'd love it if cross play happened if only because out of the grand total of 2 people I know that actually play ED, one is on PC, the other is on PS4 and I'm on Xbox

I'd love to see crossplay happen, but I would settle for cross-platform progression (or both). I'm mostly here for the lonesome space trucker / I played Elite as a kid and want my nostalgia fix experience, but I do have friends who would (or do) play Elite on other platforms, and I'm much more likely to get involved in the more multiplayer aspects if I've had the chance to experience it with some familiar voices first.
I've seen a lot of concerns about controller versus HOTAS versus keyboard/mouse causing problems in PVP situations, but I feel like this is something that could be fixed through instancing. If I understand right, the game already does some sort of instancing anyway... perhaps a setting that lets players flag themselves for crossplay, which tells the game's matchmaking whether to put them in a mixed instance or not? That way those who are concerned about crossplay get to opt out if they really want to.

We've recently interviewed developers from Frontier to discuss the upcoming on-foot expansion for Elite Dangerous, called Odyssey.

So that's no Crossplay, no support for Xbox X or PS5, no VR, no walking around in ships.... basically everything I was hoping for ruled out before launch.
It seems very short sighted, I wonder what direction they really want to head in with this DLC? Do they even know?
