Arf's Holiday Message

While this situation remains unchanged, people will continue to ask for information where currently there is none. (however much you or others don't like it)
I don't honestly give a dingo's kidney... Console users have been given the information relevant to the current situation, continuing to insist it isn't information is your prerogative, even if it is information and you are unable to accept it as it doesn't match precisely what you think it might be.

I'm sure that had EDO launched as a finished, working as expected, product, Autumn would have seen its launch on consoles. Its launch was a shambles, it pretty much still is (apart for yourself, apparently, as you claimed you had no issues earlier) as poorly performing as it was at launch, with no indication from Frontier exactly when it might be able to meet its hardware requirement they published.

It's possible for people to have differing points of view. For example, if there's something on the forum that doesn't interest me, I usually tend to ignore it.

A lot of upset consoleros have asked whether Odyssey is coming or what the status currently is. While "no news, still working on PC performance" is true, I think the crucial part is what is not being said. Because I don't think we've heard a definite "Yes, the console version is still coming" from Frontier lately. I'm afraid the possibility that Odyssey won't make it to PS4 or XBone is a very real one at this point.
If Frontier are unable to tell the PC players who already parted with their money when the expansion is going to perform as advertised, how could they possibly inform console users when they might have the product?

I agree, Frontier should just be up front and say if it is or isn't going to be made for consoles - they won't, of course.

Excellent! Well done old chap!

I also play on PS4, are you telling me I should ignore this fact? I just don't have a tendancy to stamp my feet much, I grew up.

If you're happy that "no information" will suffice for now that's brilliant. I disagree, but I also accept that other people can have opinions that differ to mine.

I would like to see the CM team - or the developers ideally - give some insight into what the future looks like for Odyssey on console, as soon as possible; as various milestones are reached it'd be nice if that could be revisited every so often - title updates, patches, developer diaries, Christmas, New Year, looking forward, looking back.

There has been information given - and I am happy to know that nothing will be done with console development until the PC version is optimised.

If you consider that to be "no information" then you are destined to be disappointed.

I thought the CM's comment provided insight... If nothing is happening there is nothing to tell, is that such a difficult concept to embrace?

Sorry, but I didn’t get the point?

we are requesting information from Fdev, why always the same few guys are trow crap into a valid issue? And what’s concerned me more is, that they could do it when ever they will, but when some of us so ignorance console players reply on the same way, we would be banned.

to be totally fair, makes no sense, it’s like to explain a blind guy how blue looks like.

Aside this, have a nice Christmas. Perhaps I see some of you out in the black, because most of them are triple accounted

You (and KCalo) do have a point, but it’s also important to remember that PC players have already paid for a product that was not and continues to not be delivered as advertised. All of these optimizations and fixes that keep coming in are things that should already have been in place for the so-called release back in May.

We still don’t have what was purchased.
then get a refund

I think you'll find that the same rules apply to all forum users, independent of the platform they use. A ban will be issued if forum rules are seriously disregarded, no exceptions.

Edit: typo

No-one knows what configuration or scenario constitutes "ready to restart console dev" or even whether console dev will restart. That's not strictly a console specific issue, as it impacts PC players also. As long as this remains vague and "no information" is apparently news - people will continue to question it. And as long as it's about Elite Dangerous - a game - they're free to do so on this forum I'd say.

I'll take this opportunity to disagree with you and leave it at that. I accept that you and I think differently. That's why life is so cool.

Indeed we disagree and think differently to each other - given the same information we interpret it entirely differently.

The only isse is that the information given, since July, has remained consistent, which one of us finds unacceptable.

Even fdev don't think it is the one - or they wouldn't be working on patch 10 ... just fear patch 11 being announced ...
Patches are fine. It's what's inside them that matters ;)

Hopefully they will announce patch 11 at some point next Q1'22 and be like:

  • Odyssey for consoles
  • NH on foot CZ's
  • Gazillion bugs fixed!

And not a single patch note will be about performance improvements or bad lighting, simply because they won't be required anymore.

Not. A. Single one.

Add on-foot VR to your list and I'll agree. :)

Greetings Commanders,

As we approach the end of the year, I thought I would do something different. Instead of the usual Development Update, I would like to show more than tell; specifically around Fleet Carriers! We will have a full Development Update in January 2022, and lay out our plans for communicating with you through updates, streams and social channels.

Update 9

Update 9 is planned for release next week, with full patch notes published on the same day. Once we have a confirmed date and time we will of course let you know! Here are the highlights of what Update 9 will bring:
  • New Twin-Seat Combat Multicrew SRV
  • Mission extensions
  • Multi Limpet Controller
This update will also include a plethora of fixes and tweaks, including (but not limited to) the following:
  • Issues relating to inactive AI at conflict zones will now be resolved.
  • Issues relating to hatch breaker limpets when used on cargo hatch or escape pods on non-dockable megaships (Odyssey and Horizons)
  • Thermal Conduit no longer has the incorrect damage increase and is correctly represented visually.
  • Completing high influence missions will now affect Background Simulation as expected.
  • Stations no longer 'pop' into existence when jumping out of supercruise
One of the tweaks we have looked at based on your feedback is atmospheric lighting. I would like to share some before and after pictures of what you can expect with Update 9. These lighting effects will be noticeable when stars are low on the horizon.

My thoughts on next year

One of the biggest aspects coming in 2022, literally and figuratively, is the addition of Fleet Carrier interiors. There is a huge amount that the team have been working on regarding this, so as promised we would much rather show you!

Join us on December 16th for our Christmas stream! This will be our last stream of the year and we want it to be special. Along with the usual fun you would expect for our end of year stream, we will be taking you on a tour around a Fleet Carrier interior for the first time. We will also be joined by a member of the development team to help us answer as many of your questions as we can.

Please remember that what we show will very much be work in progress and not final. There will also be some elements we will not show, as we feel some things are best experienced in-person, such as the all-important jump...

Outside of Fleet Carrier interiors, the development team are hard at work on new features and mission types, such as settlement defence that I cannot wait to share more on. We are also reviewing and assessing a number of areas that you have raised, such as the Engineering process, but as I said, I will leave those details for January!

One thing I am particularly excited for is the conclusion of the Azimuth Saga. We have been delighted to see our community engaging with this story arc and we cannot wait to expand on it ;). The narrative team and I are excited to entertain, perplex and thrill you with what we have in store next year!

It is fair to say this has been a challenging year for Elite Dangerous but we are proud and grateful of our community. It is our community’s continued love and support that drives us forward each and every day. To quote the first American female astronaut in space and physicist, Sally Ride - “The stars don’t look bigger, but they do look brighter.”

From the team and I, and all of us here at Frontier: have a wonderful holiday and we will see you in black!

O7 Commanders
