Notice ARX and Frontier Points Conversion

In the stream last week they earned 14Arx during an hour of playing!
It was 12 Arx; 9 from "Exploring" and 3 from "Other". It took 35 minutes during which things were done but at a leisurely pace.

From which I estimate an expected rate of earning of 18 Arx per hour and calculate that it will take 22 hours of gaming to hit 400 Arx.

Most of us probably don't put in 22 hours a week; I know I don't.

That might be total doodah of course; there's not much evidence to go on.

Hmm....... Not...... why are they not just making the player experience better especially since they made a shed load of money this year. Thought they might give something back in the form of game development for the existing commanders out there. Kind of sad really.

I'd guess that's a bit too optimistic and would anticipate something about double or trice the time.
Either way it's still something for free that ordinarily I wouldn't purchase for real money and to earn those ARX just for playing a game that I love playing anyway it's a win win as far as I'm concerned

Seriously, the more I think about it the less I like the idea of Arx. I was never a big fan of the cosmetic shop for Elite before, but at least then the prices were up front and not obscured behind a premium currency that encouranges over spending. If Frontier want to really go down this route then they really should consider making Elite free to play.

It's already free, once you buy it.
As for ARKs, it great we can earn in game. Yes it may take time to earn stuff, but no issue. You can always buy packs of ARKs to add to your earned numbers.

The only actual difference I see with the change is the freebies TBH. Other people buying cosmetics rather than me paying a sub is a definite win.

Just opt out and achieve total spaceship dressup pricing structure zen.

There's another way. FD could just charge for big content expansions and players could have their skins and laser re-coloring for free. For all the problems with the old season model at least it was up front and would've encouraged FD to actually make compelling content more regularly.

Unfortunately that isn't the model that FDev went for, and that decision was widely supported by the initial CMDR community (primarily on the forums at the time).

Many of us would have happily preferred that FDev had instead focused on providing new, large, paid-for expansions every year, exactly as described in the Kickstarter.

Speaking of kickstarter, almost £1 million (60%) of that funding came from just 5861 of the backers (23%) - namely those paying £80 or more - i.e. the tier that granted access to 'all future content'. I wonder how many of those are still around?

Buyable cosmetics and paid expansions was always the plan, I just don't do subs so I'd not have bought in otherwise.

IIRC they changed the pricing structure after the great Horizons meltdown. Paid seasons in advance was dropped for what we have now which I think (hope ?) is a more complete season released all at once but obviously that takes more time so comes later. A lot later than we all thought.

They reacted to a collective "us" for those decisions. Its a business so it has to be finically viable for anything to happen at all, still here and more coming so its working.

It wouldn't encourage them to make more cosmetics...

I think it's probably good they have multiple income streams from the game, betting the farm on each expansion must be a more risky strategy.

Road accidents and others, illness, prison, senility, the death of old age, the change of life in a Buddhist temple, participate in the explanations of those who are no longer there.

At least one, according to my hasty research.

Now then, just 5860 others to track down.

Backer 2764, £90 level, signing off :)

Another one here, plus my husband Wrongway, both backed to Alpha access level and both still around. :)

I disagree, Elite is an upfront cost same game for everyone and pay extra for cosmetics if you want them.
Free to play games tend to be Free for the base game and pay extra to advance quicker and cosmetics
